Just tried the Earthgift Shrine too early(level 24). Bad idea. Getting to the bosses was easy and then they kicked the crap out of me.
Blew past Tiamat and the final dungeon, but I hit a roadblock at the final boss. Can't keep up with That Spell. Level 43 just doesn't seem to be enough with this party without getting really lucky. I'm either going to have to grind a little, or back out of the whole final dungeon to figure out if there's an item I missed that can give me Haste or something. Too often, my Fighters are doing 1 damage per hit even with solid equipment (Excalibur, Masamune, Defender); they do from 50-300 if I'm lucky. Only WW can do consistent 250-300 per round with Holy.
Man this is an awesome idea! I'm going to try and play along with everyone. I haven't played FF in a long time. If I hit any road blocks I'll let you know.
Negative on that, I see I didn't search the Sunken Shrine well enough. The only item spells I have are Blink, Heal, and Thundara. Oh well. The grinding here in SOC level B4 is still pretty easy, so I'll give it about an hour to get to 10:00 playtime and see how it goes.
Just got the mystic key, not sure I remember where to go next, should be fun figuring it out! Trying to go guide-less. Attachments can't be added on the app right now, but I'm level 13
I'm three hours in, team is at level 16. I've mostly just been grinding Gil for items and spells. Doing a lot of going back and forth between Pravoka and Elfheim. As a result, the theme that plays when you're in the towns has been stuck in my head the entire day. That, along with Chaos Shrine and Sunken Shrine, are my favorite songs from the soundtrack. The music for this game is amazing
70 minutes of grinding later, our heroes approached the final boss at level 52 and at 10:10 on the clock. While our damage output was a little higher than at level 43, it still required a fair bit of luck to win given that one Knight often did only 8 damage per attack and the others did 50-60 with no criticals. Still, when Aaron (Excalibur) and Paul (Masamune) criticaled, they sometimes cracked 400 damage. This increase combined with the boss using That Spell in round 3 and never again got it done. Basically, it went like this: Knight 1: Attack Knight 2: use Ether on White Wizard Knight 3: Attack White Wizard: Healaga, Curaja, Full-Life, or Holy, dependent on situation I had to guess right on a couple preemptive Full-Life casts, as well as use my one Megalixir judiciously, to stay ahead of the healing race. It got a little dicey when Quake took out two Knights, but some light attacks followed that let me catch up. I probably could have won at level 43 if I had a Black Wizard or Red Wizard instead of the third Knight. I didn't remember the final boss of this version being quite so much of a tank. Haste or Temper would have made a huge difference.
Nice work! I suspect you could complete the game for a second time before I'm done with my first. Is anyone going solo? I want to enjoy that vicariously...
What a crazy little idea! As many others I had recently stocked up with a lot of new games from the app store sales. So many good games, so little time. But then, I like crazy. Playing together one game during the time of one months, that sounds like fun and maybe it's just the kick I need to finish one of those RPGs this Shaun guy is always talking about. So, I'm late to the party, but you can count me in. At first I needed to create a TA account. While downloading Final Fantasy from the app store I appealed to the Gods of Dice and got a 1-3-4-5 in return, not too bad I hope. I never played a game of the FF series before, therefore I have no idea what to expect. Then I started the game for the first time and found everything standing on the head! Nothing annoys me more than developers that try to force a single device orientation on me. Day 1 ended with the deletion of Final Fantasy from my iPad. Day 2: After a good night's sleep and after checking the grown thread on TA, again curiosity got the better of me and I gave it another try. Thanks to the Shaun--method setting up the party was fairly easy. Otherwise I would have fretted about all the choices endlessly, I guess. And then, all of a sudden, I found my party standing on a map and me with no clue at all about what to do next. Touching the screen led to my party jumping around places. Then some cruciform alien mothership appeared suddenly over my party (I guess early versions of the game came with a manual that explained some of these things.) I met some Goblins in the process and had to fight without any knowledge of how to do that. Then, more by chance I guess, I found my way into the castle, the alien mothership from Independence Day still in tow. Apparently I have to rescue the King's daughter from the evil Garland. And some Elf king is hiding an important locking device to some castle storage room. Elves live in the woods, right? So I was up and about into the woods with more random fighting against Goblins. When my warrior had only 2 HP left, it dawned on me that fighting is not the proper way to get items in this game. On my way back to the castle --- did I maybe miss something there --- I found out that the town near the castle is not there for mere decoration purposes. Finally, a manual! Sort of. End of Day 2: About one hour into the game, party rested. Everyone has reached level 3 thanks to those Goblins. And a lot to think about: spells, armor, weapons, potions. Oh my.
Ha.. it's great to see this game through the eyes of someone who's never played it. I guess I never gave it a thought that there's no manual to help you. Just buy what ever weapons, armor, potions and spells you can afford and go kill some more goblins for more money and experience. Save often! Then head north. Oh and there's a semi secret map if you haven't found it. Just tap and hold on the bottom right corner of the screen where your characters names are and it will pop up. The dots are places of importance. Good luck!
Just blew open the map, party is finally catching life after the early grind with no heals! Need to stock up on antidotes! Attachments still not working on mobile, party all level 14 (warrior monk bm bm) 2.2 hours played
An enemy team of paralizers and there goes my team, unable to do a single attack. And when my thief finally sets free, I learn that his ability to run away is not as reliable as I tought...
I'm not sure but it was hidden in the original NES version too. There is a broom that speaks backwards in Matoya's Cave that tells you how to access it. You had to push B Select on the NES.
Joining in late! I'm late to the party, but the Channel 4 News Team has arrived! Shaun's post about "The Path of Asceticism" has inspired me! These four brawlers... these fine specimens of manhood... will start and finish the game completely naked and without weapons. Let's do this!
We got the crystal! Not a gelfling in sight, though. The thieves were basically passengers against the lich as my mages did all the damage, and it got a bit hairy (Sabeta had 1MP left) but we are ready to move on.
The boys have done well on their first outing. Up to lvl 12 and just got the crown from that awful swamp dungeon for the elf city. Tomorrow we shall push onwards!
