Congrats to all who finished! I'll announce the winner of the random small silly prize in this week's Reload. This was a great start! Thanks to everyone for joining in, and I'll see you in the next thread!
Originally it was much harder than the remake (I heard). I like you have been cruising through so far with only one boss taking more than 2 rounds, but then I only have 3 of the crystals so far. I think a few of the later bosses are harder. My first time through too.
There are prizes! I didn't even realize. Or finish yet. 15 hours in and 3 crystals the trek continues... as soon as I finish this one more thing for work...
Mind if we use this thread for the rest of the Final Fantasy games? What I mean is this: I'd promised myself around Christmas I'd play through the iOS Final Fantasy games. I'm not planning on joining everyone for Aralon (I've played it in the past and didn't care for it). So instead I'm moving on to Final Fantasy II. Would it be ok to keep updating here and invite anyone else who wants to along for the journey?
Why not start a rogue playalong thread? Or find the original FF2 thread, and give it a bump? I'm in the opposite situation to you. I've never played Aralon, so I'm looking forward to giving it a go, but I have played Final Fantasy II - and I didn't care for it. Don't get me wrong, it has a lot going for it, and it's a step up from the first one in complexity and story. It's just that levelling system - ugh!
Me too! I've already played Aralon and didn't quite enjoy it as much as Ravensword games. But I've already started FFII and am currently leveling my characters by having them punch each other in the face. Fun stuff! I might not finish by the end of the month though. Today's my birthday and I just got FFXV, so that might occupy a bit of my gaming life this month... or year. But I love the idea of this being a FF play along thread.
Yeah, Final Fantasy II isn't my favorite. I've beat it a time or two using the GBA Dawn of Souls remake. As for the rogue thread, that's a good idea as I'd like to use that thread to invite along anyone else who'd like to play through the iOS catalog with me. So bumping FFII's thread doesn't seem right. I'll do that tonight.
I'll wait until Shaun weighs in. I'd like continuing in this thread so those that played through FFI can keep a running log of their time in the Final Fantasy games, but if he'd rather we not thread hijack I'll create a new one. I'll start FFII tonight. Let the face punching commence. Full warning, my playthrough this time won't advance as rapidly. My FFII strategy is early powerleveling and then a run at the end.
Happy birthday, Curtis! All the cool kids have February birthdays. It's a fact. I share mine with Kurt Cobain (not the year!).
Thanks! Loved Nirvana when they were around. And whoa, Dankrio. Is it really yours today too?! Two Groundhog Day birthdays in a JRPG-loving forum. So awesome!
You'd have your birthday off (President's Day) if you lived in the U.S. huge Nirvana fan, just the right age, and lived in that area when Grunge was exploding. Happy early birthday. I am also in the cool guy February club. Now that I'm totally off topic, I too started a FFII game, so I'm on board with a play through, but I am going to put priority to the February replay game.
Yes I vote for keeping this thread just for FF1. I'm up to chaos cave y'all! I also have long planned on playing through all the FFs as a way to catch the ones I missed previously and relive the ones I loved. So I will gladly join the FF2 thread and plot my slow plodding progress. I doubt I will finish in a month but since I didn't with FF1 but I'll try.
Hello All! With Shaun's blessing, this show is rolling on! Let's keep this thread alive with an ongoing Final Fantasy play through! Next up is Final Fantasy II. Shaun has a great write up on it on the RPG Reload column; http://toucharcade.com/2014/12/11/rpg-reload-file-018-final-fantasy-2/ Final Fantasy II will be a much different experience than the rest of the series with a very unique leveling system. Also remember as you play through that the rotating list of guest party members will be coming back in the Soul of Rebirth bonus dungeon, so don't neglect them! If you have played FFII before, the Final Fantasy Wiki has a great summary of the difference between each build: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_II/Version_differences And if you are still working on Final Fantasy I, no worries! There's more than enough time to catch up! So without further ado... Wait! Already!!!
I don't think I can handle Aralon and FF2 at the same time but you guys have fun. If I get through Aralon quickly though, I might come back and join you.
No problem. Assuming this continues I'm planning a catch up month after Final Fantasy III and after Final Fantasy VI. Jump back in when you can.
