Yes the Labyrinth of Time is in the game. Dr. Traveler finished it. I got to the boss with my solo Monk but couldn't beat her. She makes Chaos look like a cake walk. I'd say maybe level 50 to 60 with a party of 4. The higher the better though.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely keep the game on my phone and keep grinding after I beat it. And maybe I'll give it a try once I hit level 60.

Picked this up and playing thanks to this thread. I had heard the game was really tough but I haven't found that to be the case. I'm almost 10hrs in, lvl 26 or so and 1 shotting pretty much everything. Nothing does more than a few dmg to my knight and the rest of the party can manage easily. Bosses take only a few rounds to beat at most (I'm at the third crystal.).

I'm still really liking the game and the only hardships are the lack of Qol since it's basically the first jrpg. No map, no hand holding, bad dungeon design layout etc. But overall a very pure and enjoyable jrp so far. Makes me sad that we aren't getting more FF like dimensions.

It is finished. A little over 32 hours and a team at level 58. Guess I should reload an older save and get ready for the Labyrinth of time. Thanks everyone for the encouragement and fun this month. I've finally beaten a Final Fantasy game!

The original version of the game was and is quite tough. The PS1 remake added some options to make the game easier, but from the GBA version onwards, the difficulty was spiked way down no matter what your preference. I personally think the old one is too hard for its own good, but the modern version is too easy. Which is why I do the dice-roll party.

Well I decided to try Chronodia again and it took about 20 tries and an enormous amount of luck but I finally took her out. Like I said I got lucky in the beginning and she was casting spells like Ink and Kill that missed so I was able to use Defender to caste Blink about 6 or 7 times and use a light curtain for NullAll. After that the only thing that caused a lot of damage was Flare. When my items were locked I defended and crossed my fingers. When my attack was locked I used Giants gloves and Hermes shoes. After using the gloves about 8 times I started attacking doing about 7000 damage. I used all 5 of my Megalixirs but after about 6 hits it was over. I think I'm done now.

Juat Chaos left. Headed in to grab Masamune. Looked at my shrinking inventory and non-existent mp and swallowed a camel porting out :/ i'm on my way through the floors again. Stocked up and with holy on my white wizard. Had forgotten to pick it up. Almost there!

Thanks but it really was mostly luck and stubbornness. Out of the 20 or so times that I fought her, about 90% were over in less than 4 rounds. If she decided to use physical attacks before I got at least 3 Blinks in, it was over.

Also, I never would have tried a second time much less 20 if you hadn't told about resuming. I only had to go through 2 levels to get to her each time.

Well I thought I'd put a final post here, I have continued to try to beat Chaos, solo Warrior, and it just isn't going to happen for me unfortunately. RHess00, you are awesome, and sure do deserve a prize! This has been an absolute blast to read everyone's adventures, can' wait to set off on a new one with you guys in a few days.

Final Day: The deed is done!

    chaos.jpg

It took almost 40 hours to reach the end of the game and win the final battle, advancing the heroes up to level 67 in the process.

Was it worth it? My feelings are somewhat mixed. What I liked very much about the game is how the different terrain types and movement modes interact to limit access to certain parts of the game world during different stages of the game. The inhabitants of the world are cutely animated and the towns all come with their own style. Some nagging questions remained unanswered until the very end, but were answered eventually: The identity of the suspicious stranger the heroes met in Cornelia early on was revealed and some Adamantite was found. If this made any difference, I'm not quite sure, though.

The main way of advancing in the game, fighting, felt tedious after some while. A horde of insignificant, weak enemies slowed down the party's movement to a crawl, sometimes, rewarding the party with little experience but a ridiculous amount of money, instead. If Chaos didn't destroy the world, gil inflation surely will!

What had me almost give up was that darn Earth Gift Shrine. I lost some days until it dawned on me that it doesn't lead anywhere. I didn't bother to descent in any of the other optional shrines. I think it would be better to open these shrines only after the defeat of Chaos or only after the first game. While I'm sure these shrines make the game more entertaining for the veterans, they certainly don't help the newbies like me.

Notable quote of the day: "Save Game Clear data?"

Well, that's it then, I guess. I'm glad I played along. It was fun --- of the time--consuming sort --- and I will have to attend to a lot of neglected real life tasks now. Thanks Shaun, for the great idea of the play--along and the introduction of the Final Fantasy series! And, thanks to all fellow along--players who shared their experiences, read my silly reports and provided a real community feeling.

^ Geez lvl67? I assume you did the optional bonus dungeons? I'm not doing them because Iv pretty much cake walked through the game and about to get to chaos at the 13 Hr mark. Same party, lvl40. it's the final dungeon and I'm facing guys I fought in the first half of the game, kind of disappointing. Everything gets 1 shot, my guys barely take any damage. Didn't feel the need for bonus dungeon equipment.

Congrats to all of you who finished. I've saved my game in front of Omega. My son wants to fight him with me today. Figure it's poetic that I've saved a guy called Omega for the last bonus boss. I'll post a screen capture once he's done to show where I finished as far as levels and time.

This was a lot of fun, and I've posted more to the forums than I have in years. Thanks Shawn!

And Omega is done. With that all the bonus bosses are defeated. This has been a fun run through.

Ok it took an extra hour to beat chaos since I had to grind more levels and had not gotten the best white spells nor temper which apparently I needed. So it was 14hrs to beat game. Chaos was a pain, I had knight, monk, red wiz, white wiz. Knight was the only one who could even hurt him, monk did garbage dmg for, some reason (yes unarmed). I had to haste, Giants glove and heal w everyone and just attack w knight and monk. Red wiz died early, was of no use after haste. Had to get him on a time he didn't cast Curaja.

No idea how people pull off these "lvl 20, solo, no equipment etc" type kills on chaos. I had all the good stuff (besides top white and temper) and barely scraped by even at lvl50+. Don't know what I did wrong, game was easy til him. But oh well.
