I'm really trying to get through these extra dungeons before the end of the month, but they take forever when my gameplay is limited. Thankful for render breaks though! And meetings later today.
Day 16: Still alive! Morale is low! After like zillion hours in the Earthgift Shrine I didn't know what to do and where to go. Just sheer luck led my party back to that little liar. Yes, I'm talking about you there, standing next to Lukahn! The first time my party talked to him, he just gave his little history lesson. That was before they got the Earth Crystal. The second time he was just like: "Oh, guess what, I have a canoe for you." Well, he could just have said so the first time! At least he could have asked the heroes to come back after they found the Earth Crystal. Do I really have to talk to each and everyone again and again? Now the heroes found the Levistone... and have no use for it. They asked the dwarves, the wise man, even Dr. Unne --- who knows everything --- about its very nature. No one told them anything useful. Twenty--five hours into the game, all heroes at level 40, I'm starting to doubt that my heroes will make it to the finish line until the end of the month.
Ok if you want a small hint on the levistone... Spoiler Go talk to the elves . If I'm remembering correctly.
Yeah, I hear you on the dungeons. I'm having time issues too. I don't know if I'll make it back through Lifespring Grotto, Whisperwind Cove, and the Labyrnth of Time. Considering ditching Omega and jumping right to Whisperwind.
We're on the home stretch now! You don't have to finish the game to qualify for the Small Silly Thing from Japan random drawing, so don't feel rushed. The solo bounty only runs through til the end of January, though, so if you're trying to get that, well... tick tock! The next game will be announced in the Feb 2 RPG Reload, and a new thread will be started. Feel free to keep hanging out in here after that if you're still playing FF1, though.
I decided to take my Monk through the optional dungeons. I started with Whisperwind Cove. Typhon was easier to get past this time. His instadeath Snort only hit about half the time. It wasn't too difficult until the last 10 rooms where the enemies get a lot tougher. I had to use 3 x-potions to get past Death Gaze but after I buffed with Defender 3 times, his attacks weren't too bad. Then I used the Giants gloves a few times before attacking. I did find a lot of Elixirs on the way up so I've got a good stock now. Too bad the Ultima Weapon doesn't do my Monk much good. He's still better off bare handed. Off to the Earthgift Shrine.
Day 18: The heroes have visited the nice settlements of Gaia, Lufenia and Onrac. Everywhere everyone seems do be in awe of the shiny Levistonobil they arrive in. Also, as it turns out, the people of Lufenia only speak and understand Lufenian. No problem, the heroes think, we know the right man for that. And off they are, jetting across half the world, to ask the great Dr. Unne for his translation expertise. Because Dr. Unne knows everything! Except where to find the Levistone, that he didn't know. Or how to operate the flying machine, that he didn't know either. Adamantite? Again no helpful answer. And even if he might know an answer, never approach him without a recommendation by his brother the heroes had to learn the hard way. But I think they are one the right way now. The heroes also killed the Two--Headed Dragon, the Cerberus and the Echidna. Whether to any effect, they are not sure. After having spent countless hours inside the Earthgift Shrine, doubt is nagging at the back of their minds and the heroes start to suspect it to be a mere diversion. With only half an hour missing until the 30 hour mark, every member of the party has reached level 42. Notable quote of the day: "Ugh! You're filthy! Wash up already!"
Amazing! Those were the times! My big treasure is the original Dungeon Master game for the Atari ST together with my hand--drawn map of the whole dungeon.
Beat Whisperwind. All that's left is the Labrynth of time and one more run at Lifespring to face Omega. Whew.
I'm right there with you. I'm glad there are a lot of X-potions and Elixirs in these dungeons. I just used 4 on Shinryu. I just have Omega left so I hope he's not much harder.
Finally finished Whisperwind. Also went through Earthgift once. Now half-way through Hellfire. I doubt I'll go back through again to finish all bosses. I'll just get the equipment I want through one run. I need to beat this by February so I can focus all on FFXV that I'll get for my birthday. Man, I hope there aren't too many more floors of bats. These guys are irritating! You'd think with the Ultima weapon I could knock them out. But they're flying way too high... and yet prevent me from moving!
I've just got the final dungeon left. I'm planning on beating the game tonight. Are the "new" bonus dungeons like the lifespring grotto worth running?
I decided to tackle each of the four dungeons once through to get some really good equipment and continue leveling before I beat the game. If you're leveled way up, then you probably wouldn't need to go through them. One of them has 40+ floors! But I've been having fun going through them and now have awesome swords for both my Knight and Red Mage. And I'll get the best one for the Ninja later today. If you've got the time and enjoy the grind, I'd say give one of them a try. Even if you are killed, you just get put back on the world map. Or you can go back to your last save of course.
If you've enjoyed FF1-6 then the bonus dungeons are worth a go. The bosses for each dungeon come from another Final Fantasy game. For example Earthgift has 4 bosses from Final Fantasy 3, Whisperwind from Final Fantasy 6, etc. Most at least 1-2 items useful in the end game. I'd warn you, the random encounters get tedious though. Really tedious. I tried the Labrynth of Time last night. Forgot you can't save inside it and ended up having to quick as I didn't set aside enough time to beat it. Very frustrating. Now I know why I've never beat that dungeon.
Finished the bonus dungeons. I think Omega was the most difficult to beat. His one attack did over 700 damage at first but I was able to cast Blink 5 times and got it down to about 200. After 5 rounds of Saber and a Haste it still took 8 rounds of attacking to kill it. Going to try the Labyrinth of Time this weekend but I don't have much hope of beating the boss going solo. I only have 5 Elixirs left.
Beat the Labrynth of Time and landed a sweet Barbarian Sword. Doing that used up a lot of my high level resources though. I still have Omega to go. Also, to whoever at Square Enix that thought a floor full of Warmechs was a good idea.... you stink. Tomorrow Lifespring take two.
Was Chronodia a lot harder to beat than say Death Gaze from Whisperwind or Shinryu from Lifespring? Just wondering if I have a chance.
I took a team of Knight/Ninja/White Mage/Black Mage at about level 50. Chronodia's physical attack was able to one shot anyone, Knight included, until I landed a LOT of Blinks. I went in without a plan and had an epic fight where I nearly lost, held on by my fingernails, had a long comeback and eventually settled into control. If I were stronger or had a better plan I probably would have done better. His biggest danger is Seal taking away either Attack or Items. Iirc you're running solo Monk right? A bad couple of rounds of Sealed items or fight would make for a super rough fight. As it was, if Chronodia sealed items I was in a rough place. If White Mage went down during those rounds I'd just barely hang on. I'd recommend farming the form of Chronodia. I went for 8 blue gates and fought a pretty rough form. Finding the right form to fight seems pretty important.
