And it's longer than FFI, so I can eliminate, uh... Vigil. (Talk about something we could all do in a month!) But we can keep speculation to a minimum if you like. I don't mind the mystery.
Level 30, about 8 hours in. I've got my airship and made class change. Now it's back for the fire fiend. My son is ahead of me having done all of this, beat the fire fiend, and invaded the Water Temple. Pretty sure he's going to beat this before I do.
Exploring Giant's Cave and running robo cams today. Perfect time for a couple more hours of leveling up. It'll be harder later today during studio cam work or editing. January is flying by...
Wow. This changes everything! Lol. I didn't know about the in game map or the fact it can locate your ship. Doh!
Coloncruncher has inspired me. I'm going for a solo Monk run while I'm waiting for next month. Currently power leveling at the Hall of Giants. The hardest thing so far has been status ailments. I have to save constantly because if I get paralyzed or stoned it's game over.
Day 8: You won't believe this! The world is round! I accidentally sailed beyond the edge of the map and --- instead of falling into a bottomless abyss --- reappeared on the others side. This shortcut will come in handy, I think. I'm entering the second week now. This play--along reminds me why there are so many unplayed games on my iPad: Playing this kind of games takes a lot of time. Last week I played about ten hours in total, which amounts to about 90 minutes a day on average and resulting in many other things being neglected. But, this is certainly fun, I'm glad I play along. At the moment I'm stuck, again. The sales clerk in Melmond's spell boutique won't let me have those nice level 5 spells. Without them the Cavern of Earth doesn't look so inviting. Maybe there is somewhere else I need to go first, I thought, and ended up in some sort of wizard community called Crescent Lake. The big improvement on my earlier situation being, that in Crescent Lake it's level six spells which I'm not allowed to buy. Yippee! At least I get the feeling that the progression to the next experience level happens more quickly now. I even found out that the status menu shows the actual magic level, which --- after the little side--trip to the wizards of Crescent Lake --- is 5 for all my mages. Now, they are telling me that they will only sell to wizards. Oh, come on! Notable quote of the day: "Yipes! Peoples!"
Awesome to have company! Besides the status ailments, it is quite easy, until Chaos. I will be spending more time trying soon. I'm excited to hear how this goes for you.
I've hit a wall with Lich. At level 32 I can only hit him about 5 times for about 100 damage each before I'm dead. The lack of defense is literally killing me. I'd skip him for now but I can't get the canoe until I beat him. I guess I've got some leveling to do.
Well my team hit level 27 today. We finally got the canoe after venturing through the Earth dungeon twice! Thankfully I found a pretty good walk through site with maps so the dungeons aren't a pain anymore. The Earth crystal is safe and moving onto the next one! Oh and I did try to go through the Earthgift shrine only to get one-hit-killed by a worm on my 3rd floor which was just a huge desert. Odd for a dungeon to have a desert for a floor. Now my team (Warrior, Black Mage, 2x White Mages) are grinding some levels outside of Crescent Lake town in order to beef up and take out the trash mobs a little easier before heading into the Ice dungeon.
WTF? What are you saying, man? Ready to head for Chaos, then stumbled across the Labyrinth of Time. Must admit, I completely missed this on my first play through, although I did all the other bonus dungeons. However, I cannot read what the hooded man is saying at all. Anyone else got this bug? Think I might just polish off Chaos instead. Been about 16hrs, level 49 - I'm ready to see this one off!
12 hours, level 43, and all four fiends down. Ready for the endgame but those extra dungeons are calling my name.... My son is doing some power leveling to get the last few spells for his Red and Black Wizards. He has Tiamat to go.
Loving playing through FF 1 again. So far I'm at level 25 with 2 monks, white and black mages. Just attained the earth crystal. Going to hang out in Marsh Cave and level to 30 before moving on. Thanks for this cool new feature! Any other good places to level?
If you look at your map on the right side, the lower continent almost touches the upper continent. The lower peninsula is called Power Peninsula. The top four squares have very powerful enemies. If you can survive you'll get lots of experience. You can walk there from Pravoka.
Day 9: Wanting to try out all their shiny new equipment they brought back from Crescent Lake --- armor and weapons wrought from Mythril, Hi--potions and antidotes --- the party decided to enter the Cavern of Earth again. Not seeing any alternative to that course of action might also have played a role, I think. Anyways, down they went. And down. And down. And they fought the vampire over the big ruby and they prevailed. And wondering what they had done, they stumbled back into the light of the sun and thought: That wasn't too difficult, was it!? Now let's go and visit the wise man living nearby. While the wise man seemed very impressed about them slaying the vampire, his reply didn't impress anyone at all. Those were the words of the wise man: "Now go back and, this time, look closer!" And closer they looked ... and found the first of the four missing crystals! Tonight there will be a big party in Melmond, I guess. Notable quote of the day: "*crunch* *munch*"
Late Start for the Newbie on the Block OK, folks, here I go. Halfway through the challenge, I decided to join in on the fun. That was two days ago. Day one: Having never even heard of Final Fantasy before (what have I been doing these past 30 years?), I opted for the variant for the intrepid uninformed: roll the dice. That got me a thief, two monks and a red mage. Could have been worse, I guess. I must admit that I spent most of the first day trying to get my party moving - it took me ages to figure out how to change the characters from the default setting. I ended up generating their names automatically, it seemed so much easier at the time. Still, I had enough time to get them started, move them about a bit (I am still struggling to move right, for some reason), get into some fights and rescue the princess. The day ended in the inn of Cornelia, after dropping off the princess at the castle. I thought the king was a bit stingy to let me pay for the inn after I exhausted my team rescuing the princess, but at least he kept his promise and built the bridge. And the princess parted with her lute, which hopefully will come in handy at some point. After the night at the inn everyone was fit and healthy at level 3. Day two: I spent the second day heading north, getting some fighting experience and otherwise wandering round aimlessly. I met some brooms that gave me the useful tip as to where to find the world map - it pays to talk to everyone The day ended in Pravoka, with everyone at level 7. Trust my luck to listen to my guys and go to the inn first - afterwards I met the pirates and lost some of my regained health fighting for their ship. But rather than spending another night, I decided to stock up on potions and spells. I also spent some time looking for the outdoor equipment store - I would have loved to get a new sleeping bag! No luck there - no camping out before the next town. Day three: The direction of the day seemed to be west. So I sailed my ship west, but got stuck on the coast there. I got as far as Mount Duergar and Elfheim (where I stocked up on two tents), but other than more clues that west is where I should go (or so I think), I did not find a way to walk or sail through to get further west. I guess I will have to retract some of my steps, and in fact am on my way back to the ship right now to sail round the inland sea tomorrow, trying to find a way out. Looks like I might need to use one of my tents soon - the health of my party has been declining rapidly over the past few fights. I have been experimenting with weapons, armor and spells a bit, and found the monks pretty cheap in the upkeep. The more experienced they get, the less they seem to fancy armor of any kind. After only getting a half price refund on the gloves they refused to wear, I am now a bit more careful in buying bulk. The thief is a good fighter, if a bit reckless, but investing in armor for him has reduced the health bill by some. And the red mage is a better fighter than I would have thought of a scholar. Which is good, because he can then use some of his magic power on healing. Quite nice that he can heal himself, too. He knows best how to keep himself out of trouble, so healing himself does not actually feature that much. Having no experience with the game, I cannot tell wether the thief helps with getting extra potions and stuff - I noticed that some of the enimies sometimes drop something when they loose. That's it for now, updates will follow. At last some statistics: The full party is at level 10 now, and the total playing time clocked up to 03:46.
