Thanks, I was thinking the same thing on the rat's tail, it will be my first stop once I buy new equipment (after airship is acquired).

After I defeated Lich, Decided to go off the regular path for a bit in order to grind and get the Rat's Tail. I completed the Ice Cave, obtained the air ship, acquired theRat's Tail and visited Bahamut, then saved the fairy, was given oxyale, went and got the cube, and am now back to the volcano to get the Fire Crystal. All of this was done quite easily, I think the solo run is going to be a success.

I like how Bahamut promoted the corpses of your comrades.

Day 7: Having died and been resurrected, my guys really have earned a little leisure time. So I sent them on a cruise around the Inner Sea of the world, doing some exploration on the side. As it turns out the Inner Sea is just that, a inner sea, completely surrounded by land. This interesting geographic tidbit will make it very hard to reach the other continents which lie beyond the ocean on the other side of the circular landmass. I wonder if my party will have to portage their ship to the Outer Sea or if they will have to swim across it.

I also emptied a lot of safe-deposit boxes with the help of the mystic key.

Now it is time to decide where to go next, east or west?

I don't recall the marsh cave being so annoying. I must be missing something but I can't find the crown. Seems like all the chest are open and only three floors of exploring I doubt I missed something. Did I?

...that is hilarious, and could be put to good use. Imagine a set of Knights with MP growth from level 1 on.

Is there a way to access the map? I recall a way to do it on the NES version and I do see it on the status screen but I can't seem to activate it.

Beat The Lich, and my son has acquired the canoe. My son challenged me to take on the Earthgift Shrine. So I have a side quest.

At the end of my solo Knight mission. At Chaos now, tried several different strategies, so far, not so good, losing the battle fairly quickly every time. I am at level 99, not quite sure what to do now.

That did it. Thanks! As I recall, the NES version you had to hold down select to make the map appear. Makes sense now.

Sorry to hear this. I wonder if this just isn't feasible given that Chaos has 10 times the HP of the NES version. About how much can you do before he takes you down?

I guess given enough Elixirs, you could do it. Maybe you'll have to do some of the bonus dungeons to pull this off?

Ah, what a shame. Giant's gloves no help? Can you get through any of the bonus dungeons to get more powerful weapons?

Six hours in and just visiting the dwarves for the first time. Have yet to find a crystal lying around anywhere. Wonder if these guys will be able to point me in the right direction...

Just tried to fight Chaos at level 38. It did not go well. I can't get my defenses up quick enough. I guess I have some grinding to do.

Got it done at level 45. My black wizard died early on but I was able to get my warrior up to 4000 damage with the Giants gloves and took him out before he cured himself.

So Shaun, any hints on what next months game is going to be?

I'm no expert in the game, but if your max lvl and having issues beating Chaos then you only have two other variables to consider for strategy and that would be Item combinations and consumables. You seem like you know what you're doing so... maybe it's just not possible

Day 7: Things don't go always as planned while fighting the evil corruption. There might even come a time when --- as a last resort --- one has to go underground. And, who do you want on your side then? Right. Dwarves!

As I had decided to move to the west first, I run into the their underground base below Mount Duergar right in time. Yet, the first meeting with the dwarves wasn't as productive as it could have been. To make explosives even dwarves need stuff that explodes. And, as it turned out, there wasn't any. A little bit disappointed my party left the safety of the dwarven underground base and hit the road again. First they tried to move further to the west, but their advances where blocked by a huge mountain chain soon. Across the sea to eastern shores they sailed, only to find the land there as inaccessible as at the other side of the world. While the map seemed to suggest that there would be a way trough the river landscape in the east, it could not be found. The map's cartographer was never actual there, would be my guess.

With no other way to go it hit me hard: I must have missed something, most probably one of those deposit boxes. Eventually, I found the nitro powder. Back at Mount Duergar, Nerrick's first test blast was so powerful, it obliterated the isthmus on the western side of the circular continent! Really powerful stuff! It scares me to think my party traveled around half the world with a knapsack full of it, even casting Fira spells. I guess everyone is lucky to be still alive and in one piece!

As soon as the big mushroom cloud cleared away, my party sailed out of the Inner Sea towards the nearest harbor. Melmond, as the harbor town is called, lies almost completely in ruins. Its citizens were so glad to see my heroes arrive, they totally info--dumped everyone.
