Oh, wow, I wouldn't have caught that distinction. If it has FF in the title, I would just assume it's SE. But DeNA has a really solid reputation -- that's who Nintendo's contracting with, right? So it makes sense that they're doing good stuff. If you liked Record Keeper so much, I think I'll give it a shot!
Just started the World of Final Fantasy event in Final Fantasy Record Keeper. I don't participate in all the events, but since I'm playing through WoFF right now and loving it way more than I ever thought i would, I had to start the event. It was quite awesome hearing the soundtrack on my phone in an app, obtaining Lann and Reynn, and getting their outfits! I spent all that I was saving up for FFXV's event. So, hopefully SE will space them apart. Otherwise, I'll be out of luck for FFXV.
Well since I am going to be working a lot next weekend, I figured I'd try a new FF game to pass the Easter weekend. And what says Easter more than a chocobo?! So, I started FFV finally. And good ol' Bartz and Boko have definitely hit the spot for me. And I'm honestly blown away by how good it is so far. The risqué stuff that happened in the first town totally had me giggling. I guess my WoFF and FFXV playtime this week will be sharing my attention with FFV. Maybe I'll be able to make a nice start this Spring.
Along with tactics still being 32 bit I also noticed the final fantasy rhythm game is 32 as well I have been wanting to purchase some of the extra content but I'm going to wait until an update happens first if it does I'm thinking both of these will get fixed at least I hope so
Yeah, I'd hope all of their FF and DQ titles will get fixed. I guess I'll have to tell my dang phone to keep letting me know about the update later. I wish we could just turn off those stupid requests and update auto downloads.
Wright Studios has released a new game Anaza 27 it's an RPG and it's FTP but here's the deal it's a real RPG compete with towns and talking to people etc feels like a full fledge JRPG and the FTP so far hasn't been a bother and it's very good. Graphics and look and feel of the game are excellent. It's only Japan right now and I don't expect to see it go worldwide but it's def worth checking out if you have a Japan account. And on the premium side a new RPG launched in Japan only costs 1200 yen but it looks super good it's called Egglia Legend of Redcap don't let the strange name fool you this looks top shelf and I plan on buying it later today Also flame x blaze is out from square Enix in Japan and it's okay not all that great though getting 3 stars right now and I'm Not crazy about it but I redownloaded it to give it another try. That's my Japan report for this week so far anyways new games are always subject to appear. Also forgot last week Taito released Time Gal so I may pick that one up when I snap up Egglia
Also on Egglia here is a link to their site which I was able to select English on so maybe that's hope for an English release one day http://egglia.jp/eng/system.html The section I linked talks about the system of play and it's very unique but also makes it so good
Yeah, this is finally where I get off the update train. There are too many old games -- completely unsupported ones -- that will be gone forEVER if I update. This is the end of the line.
it's ios 11.0 that will be the one so if that's your plan you're fine until that one as that will be the one that kills 32 bit games
Nice 3 pull I just had on FF record keeper US version soul breaks for both world of final fantasy characters correction that is not Lann's soul break but he can equip it
Just chiming in to say I appreciate the Japan update. Egglia sounds interesting - I'm going to check out that link.
Nice! Yeah, I got their outfits and the mirage for Reynn. I was hoping I could get Lann's too, but both the mirage and glove eluded me. I'm going to try and play enough to at least try one more 3 pull. I did like 5 11 pulls and got a ton of Yuna's staffs. Wish I could trade them away.
I'd just like to say that this week's RPG feature was terrific. And I look forward to the upcoming TA RPG book, which I have not forgotten you promised.
So... Bit quiet on this thread this week... This would be a great question for the Reload podcast (sniff), but let this go out to everyone. What is your favourite RPG series, and why? I suspect there will be quite a few Final Fantasy responses - for me, it's hard to look past it. There are plenty of individual RPGs that I've enjoyed more (The World Ends With You, definitely; Fallout 3, possibly - you get the idea), but FF is perhaps my favourite series, even if only because it's the one I've played most releases from. The consistency of art and music, plus the bravery in constantly changing its systems, makes it stand out. That said, Sorcery gives FF a run for its money purely as a consistent series - what a work of art. I really need to play more than DQ8 to get a feel for Dragon Quest, and I've never tried any Fire Emblem. Not played enough Fallout or any Witcher titles... I feel other people's responses will be more interesting than mine. So let's hear it. Any shouts for Phantasy Star? Baldur's Gate? Mana? Avernum? Bard's Tale? Diablo? SMT? Persona? Chrono? Mario RPGs? Mass Effect?
Phantasy Star is my personal favorite. Mostly because it was my first RPG series and because Phantasy Star III is awesome. I also have a soft spot for the Phantasy Star Portable games on the PSP, despite them getting a bit tedious at times.
I love III I recently bought them all on steam and the steam versions are not good but playable just wish they were better wish they redo 1-4 for mobile and make them look a little sharper etc
Final Fantasy used to be my favorite serie. However, now I see things on a different light. Final Fantasy VI still is one of my favorite games ever, though. I have to say I LOVE Mass Effect universe. Up until the end of the third game it was almost perfect, even if it is not too deep. I think the lore is very interesting and that the races are a joy to interact with. I really wanted to know as much as possible about the universe. I also love Fallout setting, even if I have played less than I would like to. My first experience was with Fallout 3, which I have loved, so I went back to 1 and 2, that are very different, but great games on their own. Would love to see 1 and 2 on iOS, so I would clock many hours there. Sorcery! is also awesome. Haven't played much of Baldur's Gate, but I want to correct this rather sooner than later.
Although it's a toss-up with Final Fantasy, Pokemon deserves a mention. Aside from everything that the series gets very, very right, Pokemon does two things that seem pretty rare in RPGs: 1) Its setting is modern. Not sci-fi, not fantasy, not even modern with sci-fi or fantasy elements: it's just modern-day... with some extra animals. 2) It's HAPPY! In the early games, there weren't plots to destroy the world, rule the world, unleash some ancient evil... it was just foiling a local gang. Although later games (unfortunately) ramped this up, the drama is still compartmentalized, and the general disposition is just plain sunny. I really, really wish more games did this, but most games wouldn't have enough to go on if the suspense was absent. There's really not a bad apple in the bunch.
What a great choice! I've only played Pokémon Emerald, but I was bowled over, even as an adult, with how charming and inventive it was. It is a lovely series. Never played any Mass Effect, so can't comment on Dankrio's love for it, but regarding Nekko's choice of Phantasy Star - it was the first JRPG I ever played. Had a cartridge convertor on my Game Gear so I could play Master System games, and I must have played through to the final battle at least twice, maybe three times. Never did beat that final demon boss, though, despite eating burger after burger after burger... I'd love to give it another try or check out the sequels on iOS or Switch.
Have you played Persona? I have a feeling you would love it for what you say you love about Pokemon. Persona 4 golden is one of the best JRPGs I have put my hands into. Highly recommend it. Can't beat the "modern" scenario if it is what you like. Part of the game is on school and about the bond you develop with people that goes there. Edit: play Mass Effect if you have the chance. Really great experience. Also Persona 4 Golden. What a game for JRPG lovers as yourself.
