They made it this way because at its release, it looked fine. But since then, phones have had a huge screen size and resolution upgrade... But this app hasn't been remastered yet. I'm sure Square Enix will revisit Chrono Trigger again to either update this version with remastered graphics or maybe even remake it eventually. I'm sure there will be plenty of work with either option, so I wouldn't be surprised if it took them a while. Plus, since this current version still works, I'd imagine it's probably not high on the priority list.
I cannot understand how a higly rated and fan favorite rpg such as Chrono Trigger was given this kind of treatment. In fact, I even didn't bother playing the iOS version for much time. I really hope they revisit it in future, though I think it is not likely.
Thi is why I never had any patience for people complaining about the state of the App Store. If you NEVER touch a freemium game, a knock-off, an endless whatever, etc. -- that is, if you forgo 99.9% of the games available -- you're still left with a selection of quality games that is far BETTER than ANY previous console! And people complain about "weak weeks" on Wednesdays... if Apple put a permanent moratorium on new games starting today, I still probably wouldn't have enough time to get through them all. So any new remake or surprise quality game that DOES get released is just icing on an already magnificent cake. Yeah, I often just stare at my games folder contentedly.
My thoughts EXACTLY. My only complain is about updates breaking older games. But even with those, you would still have much more games than time available. Lol There are plenty of awesome games, specially for the genres I love the most, like rpgs and adventures.
Hear, hear! I've got folders full of RPGs and other games that offer probably several hundred hours of gameplay. I swear, it's great just knowing they're there. I also have a watchlist full of other premium games that I can't quite justify getting just yet. (I'm looking at you in particular, Rom Saga 2 and Titan Quest...)
What kind of treatment are you talking about? Do you mean, you wonder why they haven't given it to a different developer, and remastered the graphics and user interface? I'd love for them to revisit it for sure! However, when I initially got it on the App Store, I was very pleased. It looked and played great on my iPhone 3G. I couldn't have been happier with it at the time. But that was back in 2011, when Square-Enix was still developing separate apps for iPhones and iPads. And for some reason, Chrono Trigger wasn't released for iPad. I wonder if it was because they didn't want to remaster the graphics. Either way, I thought they treatment for the playing it on the iPhone was well done. I've got 30 hours in my save game right now on it, and that is the same save that I started back in 2011. They've also fixed a couple things along the way that versions of iOS messed up. But, if someone throws together a petition to revitalize Chrono Trigger, I'll be one of the first to sign it. Just let me know! However, in the meantime, I'm quite happy playing it as is on my iPhone 6.
I have 155 games on watchlist, 294 registered on my Gamecenter and god knows how many more that are not compatible with Gamecenter.
The controls are clunky, the graphics are far from optmized, there are framerate issues and the videos from PS aren't even included.
I actually love the controls on Chrono. I only want it to look non blurry. FF and FF II are old too and they take my breath away on my newest device, ipod touch. They only look better. Probably have enough to last a really really long time ^^
Totally agree and the graphics only thing that's bad now and right at time of release it was fine just needs updated either way I can't complain when I first got my phone I played it all the time and as popular as chrono is it will be back I also love the medals on III I am not following a walkthrough but I am sure I haven't missed any cuz I'm a hound for exploring to find everything I can on DQ games and that's part of what I love about the series. If time allows and I get a second play though j will follow a walkthrough to see if I did miss anything I like playing it out right first time and perfect game walkthrough on second play.
All of that is because it was released in 2011, when the App Store had much smaller acceptable app sizes. And to top it off, the music in the app is a big reason of the size of the app. So, I sure hope a new dev can remaster it for us if SE sees it as a priority.
Yep, I'll sign the petition too. Though really I just want it to no longer be iOS 9 (or for MHFU to be updated so I can have both).
Holy cow! I had no idea it was raised up to iOS 9 now. I'm on iOS 8.4.1, but have had it on my iCloud backup since that was a thing. Wow. If you own it already, though, won't it let you download a previous version of the app?
Not following a guide either. Part of the fun just looking and trying to find them myself first time. I'm not very far though. In a tower now, skyfall tower I think. There's a lot to do, I wrote down everything people say who might be an objective and DQ always fill the pages fast.
Haven't done that one yet, but I did write the review here at TA. I'll be Reloading Blazing Souls first, and we'll see where we can fit Agarest in after that.
