Agreed! Very exited to have it be game of the week. The more who see it the better :-D Now if I can only manage this last part of FFII I can get this train going! Can't wait to play it, but putting down a game on the same device is never a good idea for me. Almost there though.
OK, I did it. I threw Dragon Quest V into my backlog. I had to do something to mark the DQ anniversary, right?
DQV sounds SOOO GREAT, but I just still have trouble with Akira Toriyama. Has anyone ever not played a game just because of character design? I had the same problem with FFIX, which is similarly acclaimed. I really wish I would get over this hangup.
Can't exactly remember which game, but I know I have had some hiccups on several occasions. I would love to play FF IV on ios, but I'm getting the PSP version for example.
Cool, didn't know you had it as a favorite too! Have you played all? I'm right before last boss in FFII now, just going in to engage him! Edit: Beat II, Started Rom Saga 2 at last! Just tinkering to figure out things, seems very good. But probably more of a niche game, It bodes well for the future that they actually choose an obscure one as this to send over to the west!
It's a mmo isn't it? Shaun? You wrote not to grind for Rom SaGa 2 as you could work yourself into a near unwinnable state. However monsters keep hunting me down. Do you mean intentional grinding? Or will just clearing areas get into to that place?
I think by grinding he means going to an area, battling a bunch of enemies, leaving that area and going back to the castle for example. Then heading back to that area and battling the enemies again, because once you leave they will come back if you haven't moved the story along. That's what I did for the first hour until I read his suggestion. Hopefully, I'm not too far gone!
Thanks I tried to stay away from some of them, but they seem very persistent in getting to me in tight places lol. What are your thoughts so far?
Nice! I really love the way that one started. I only got a little ways in. I'm still trying to finish II before I move onto III. But I'm also playing IV, V, and VI at the same time. Don't know if I'll finish any if I don't focus on one at a time! And now I'm thoroughly enjoying FFIX and RS2. Man, RS2 has been a fun change of pace!
I'm with you playing way too many at a time RS2 is great DQIII is one I hadn't played much once you get going very good and changing out parties is cool.
I only started Dragon Quest III once on my android. The beginning was very memorable! I bought it on ios instead. The portrait mode was a little hard on the bigger android phone. Enjoying RS2 too. I feel like I have just started though. Do any of you know what that scale in the castle is for? I haven't found a way to check a max limit for carrying or something, so I don't really get what it is for. I love all the small details of this game!
Finally caved in and bought FF IX too. Should have waited, but money came in and I really wanted to play a FF at the same time as Rom SaGa 2 as a change of pace. After playing that one more now I understand why it isn't for everyone, I really like it though. Right now I'm headed to take out a monster in the cloister dungeon if I remember correctly.
Just play a diff one each day like I do haha Part IX is really good on mobile wish viii was on mobile Been playing it on steam and it was always my fav on ps2 played it all the time DQIII just gets better the further I get The party strategy is cool and i like switching out characters and forming various parties to see which ones work
That's what I do now too lol. Right now: Rom SaGa 2, FF IX and DQ III. Gives a nice mood variety too I really wish for VIII too!! And that it gets same treatment as Ix! Have you played VII on ios? I'm not very iffy on touch, I can handle most controls. I'm wondering if it is worth it. Will probably end up buying anyway just to see. I don't really understand why they didn't rework the controls to fit mobile. I think we will get VIII too eventually, don't you think? They have released pretty much every FF, can't really see them skip it. Do you think a mobile today can handle FFX or is it too early?
re: the most recent article: History of Handheld RPGs, Part Ten (3DS) First, awesome article and series. My best times with an RPG series on 3DS has been with The Denpa Men series. Criminally overlooked. It's basically a modern re-imagining of the first Dragon Quest trilogy, with augmented reality, gotta-catch-em-all, and super fast battle speeds (individual battles are fast, the grind remains). If you know the story from Dragon Quest 1-3, something similar is done in the Denpa Men series. It's so good. Love that series. Wish more people were enthusiastic about it. So, glad Denpa Men got a shout out in this article, but it deserves more than one sentence IMO!
I've never quite managed to make peace with augmented reality. I understand that it blurs the lines between reality and imagination... but by bringing an unavoidable dose of reality into my imaginary world, it counterintuitively makes it HARDER to suspend disbelief. Does that make sense? That said, I never realized Denpa Men was an RPG. Maybe I should give it another look?
