Ya what was funny is SC came out with serious bug and everyone was pissed. Then EA promised a update that took forever. LOL.
I think i almost forgot about that, but i didn't get the game, so i wasn't really annoyed with the dev.
I remember waiting up all night to get the 2.0 update the day it was supposed to be released. It wasn't released that day and I was incredibly pissed. I also remember at the dawn of the app store the approval process took 3-5 days
haha this is my favorite part of the thread, this takes place after everyone gives him sh!t about how crap his app is I'm proud of Urban Tycoon's success and don't plan to stop here!!!
When the site first started out, every new article seemed incredibly interesting and impressive. Yes I was disappointed as well. I wonder where the people behind TouchSoft are at now...
Does anyone remember when a newbie came in and was like "what are some good games?", and everyone was like "get urban tycoon"!
just, curious, is it still in the app store? and as i said before the dev replied after everyone gave him crap
Funny how after reading through some of these old threads, the members who are now scoffing at the beggars for a price drop were once begging themselves.
Not really. At the start, people weren't throwing temper tantrums over prices the way they are now. SMB was $10, and if you didn't want to pay for it, you simply didn't get it. There wasn't such rudeness and disrespect toward developers then. Now, people on this forum don't give a second thought about telling a dev, "Your game isn't worth $2.99!" I remember recently I read a post about a newly-released 99-cent game, and some idiot asked whether there was going to be a light version!
Agreed - I never would have forseen the app store economy being the way it is now back when it first launched (that is, any game that costs more than .99 gets bashed until the dev drops the price).
Yes I paid for quite afew $10 apps like SMB, Enigmo, Brain Challenge and Spore simply because it was a bargain compared to console gaming! Of course they all had their limitations, but it was mobile gaming nirvana ompared to the J2ME games on other platforms. And getting free updates over the air, usually spurred on from forum feedback was just unheard of before! Never thought it would turn out the way it has! I remember the Urban Tycoon fiasco, the huge coverage of retro gaming (in part due to Blake ad many other gamers' preferences like myself, partly because that was what worked most of the time for early games), the hot debate about Fastlane Street Racing's difficulty, and loads of other charming conversations that made visits here so enticing. I'm glad that this thread was brought up to stir the memories. Maybe Arn himself can do a "Best of TA 2008-2009" recollection from his and Blake's perspectives?
I remember my first days on TA....ah, creating many threads in one minute was fun. Such lovely forms of spam! And I won a free copy of Spore.
Same here! I think that was my first intro to the promo codes, Craig law came around and gave out a TON of codes for spore. That was when I knew TA was the place to be.
I remember about 10 seperate "contest" threads where people had amasses Spore codes. I don't guess that went over too well for EA Mobile, otherwise they'd have done such promotions with SimCity, TW etc. by now. .....ah, the good ole days; when Blake and Arn would see a thread with no first impressions and just buy the game to start s discussion and when the King of all things forums-EDNG ALWAYS had something brash and unabashed to relay
