The newest 3gs/4th gen iOS devices and iPad are more powerful than the Wii... http://www.tomsguide.com/us/ios-gaming-infinity-blade-rage,review-1607.html "In November, id Software released Rage Mutant Bash TV, and Epic Games just released is the Epic Unreal Engine 3-powered Infinity Blade this month. We'll take a look at both entries' use of the little PowerVR SGX 535 GPU in the iPhone 3GS/iPod touch 3g and Apple A4 package used in the iPhone 4, iPad and iPod touch 4g. Believe it or not, that little mobile GPU is more powerful than the Wii or any console from the previous generation (before Xbox 360 and PS3)." Chime in your opinions.
The Wii is about the only current generation system that can get away with shitty graphics and CPU speed. They polish a lot of their games in a cartoony less intense way to make up for the lack of heavy graphics. I love the Wii. Not many many games for it that I like, but the ones I do are atounding to play on the system.
A developer claimed that the iPhone was more powerful than the Wii back in 2009. It's funny reading the comments on this article, you realise how much things have changed. http://www.destructoid.com/telltale-developer-claims-iphone-more-powerful-than-wii-141961.phtml There's some guy comparing screenshots of Resident Evil. Now look what we have now with games like Infinity Blade, RAGE, NOVA 2, Real Racing 2 etc.
I hear the new psp2 will be more powerful than the xbox360. Anyways I don't believe iOS is more powerful than the wii. If it was, I'd be playing super Mario galaxy on my device right now.
iOS is the operating system, not the hardware. And the reason you aren't playing super mario galaxy on your device right now (and never will) is because it's owned by Nintendo.
Ok, but this thread is about sheer power not quality. So far I've seen games which look so much better than any Wii game I've played. Games like Infinity Blade, RAGE, Aralon, NOVA 2, Real Racing 2, Shadow Sun etc. The Wii is all about simple cartoony graphics and I doubt it could ever run the unreal engine 3.
I actally hope Nintendo loses the "war" they declared against Apple so they will see it's a good device and have a better chance of making high-quality games for iOS. I would pay much money for one of Nintendo's famous series. And do you think the 3DS will have better graphic capabilities than the wii?
I'm pretty sure if a phone can run the Unreal Engine, then so can a console made specifically for gaming. The only reason we don't see it running on that platform is because Epic Games is not interested in doing so.
That was way back when though. They probably would have never of thought they would be able to run the Unreal Engine on a phone either.
So you're saying this apple isn't like this orange?! My small brain needs to be able to relate all the objects I see in front of me when I wake up in the morning, like my iPod touch, my Wii, this megaman poster, my pillow. New iOS devices are more powerful than my printer!
