What do you think about the new layout/features of the App Store?

    - Whole new funky layout
    - "Top Grosing" list
    - Now you can see the top 200 apps
    - Prices not showing up in the charts
    - No sub-categories
    - "Hot New Games" and "Genius" through your iPhone/iPod Touch
    - There isn't a specific page for Games, where you could see New and Noteworthy, What's Hot and Staff Favorites.

I dont really like the Top Revenue list. Only the expensive apps will be up there. In the Singapore store, its some turn-by-turn app selling at 80USD.

Main itunes, there is a new top grossing software panel on the front of the app store. To be honest appears as useless as I expected such a thing to be. It looks pretty much like the top paid apps, with the addition of a few high (or realistically) priced apps.

But it's only fair that these more expensive apps get their share of exposure. Apart from the out-of-nowhere top grossing app, four actually coincide with the top paid apps list in the top 10.

Yeah, well.. I just think that listing the apps that made the most money seems odd.

Some people call this the "Intention Gap". Users just want to get a good app for themselves. This is of course very subjective so we typically resort to "top rated", or "top downloaded", but now we have "top earning"? I dont mean to say that this new list is useful, I just find it weird thats all.

I agree it's weird, I don't really like it either, but I think the devs will welcome this addition

...yeah, just because an app earns a lot of money does not necessarily make it a good app...just that alot of people hit the buy button

Umm, it's not very easy to browse by Game sub-categories anymore. The panel on the lower left is gone.

You can use the "Column Browser" (which has no button, you have to go to the View menu) to see lists of subcategories, but there are no icons.

Cluttered, muddled, and frustrating. I'm not happy with the browsing experience.

I am not liking the new itunes 9 app section. What happened to the app store front page that had staff picks or new and noteworthy? There were some cool recommendations there. Also, what happened to the subcategories?

For everything that apple has added in features, it seems that they stripped down the app store section.

Edit: my bad, I found the app store front page. I didn't know that you could just click on the app store button. I thought you had to choose from the drop down list. But I still don't like the games section layout.

The new layout seems bad right now, but I am sure that it will grow on me as we become acquainted. As is true of most everything new. :)
