hi, let me put my 5 cents into discussion : ) and also ask more 5 cents from everyone: - do you know a lot of games on appstore, which are not crashing/freezing ever ? show me, I'll find tons of reviews under this app, that "game not working", "nice game but buggy", "progress not saving", "sure, I've reinstalled the game after update released" etc... More then - Im not moving The Necronomicon game into this, its just 1.0 version, 1.1 is in few times better, you'll see pretty soon, and still tons of stuff that could be optimized and for sure it will be optimized without loosing features of gameplay. Its not logic - if you want to have good game - you should write good reviews instead bad - because as worse reviews - as less sells, as harder for developer to do new expensive high quality-art cards etc. Again it is 1.0 version, if you even not able to run the game - leave it - be sure dev knows that, because its not PC, iphones/ipods are almost the same, so if something not loading at you - for sure hundreds other peoples have this issue, so it will be highlighted for devs, so leave the game or write simple PM to dev about your configuration and game is not working... bad comment will make step back in the game for fixing issue. In case I have issues with games - I see the game is great, its done not "simply put", so I just leaving it and waiting for updates, $0.99 is not something that should break down all your (and others) day, you owned the game, so if its not loading on your device - just watch for updates - apple done great job - you'll have notification about new update and play other games. Anyway its make really hard to deal with comments, when you have in-game issues, I have almost mln chars of code in Necronomicon, which holding in my head all the time, and everyday something is fixed in the game, so with time "everything" will be perfect, balanced and tested, it couldn't be in first release as far it is experience, which growing with time. ok, sorry, I like to speak a lot: there is another question: in 1.1 the leaderboard Base Set will works, and scores are balanced, so probably we will have another amounts of highscores, more fair to everyone: top-highscores big-boys - will that be ok if I'll reset highscores when 1.1 update will be released ? : )
No offense meant to you. Actually all of my posts have been about how great the game is. I don't care at all about the price and I've said more than once that I would support IAPs for this game because it is so good and deserving of it. The essence of what I was saying was not to complain but simply to point out how much I want to play the game. But I'll stay clear of this thread from here on and simply wait for the update as you suggest.
sorry if you took it on yourself, I just trying to defend my child : ) and with few updates this child will defend itself without help in latest build I have - for sure no any cards stucking now/freezes, PM me your email/UID - I'll send you this build and you'll see how the update is going ; )
No worries, I understand that you must be frustrated being knee-deep in all that code and clearly this is a labor of love for you guys which makes it really hard to hear anything negative about it. That is why I could never make it as a coder. Anyway. don't worry, in a short time when things are running without any issues there is sure to be a real supportive group of gamers around this gem. I have the utmost confidence that it will be working flawlessly soon and then I can give the game the proper positive commentary. But, seriously, for now I will stop lamenting the technical issues since I know it bothers you so much. And, just a personal suggestion, but maybe take a break from TA for a little bit if those comments really start to chafe you. It'll probably make things a lot easier and more productive for you if you eliminate all the stress you can. Something really positive besides any gaming that has come of this game by the way, is that it has lead me to re-read some Lovecraft, which I hadn't done for a few years.
So, I finally bought the game besides the negative reviews, and besides the freezing issues reported. So far, I haven't faced such problems. But really I can't understand how the player can affect to the process of the game. I mean the game "shows" you the possible positions of the cards, then you move towards thye several rooms randomly, and finally you roll the dice to face the "boss". If someone could tell me which way could I affect this process I would really appreciate it.
I'm with Juan13. I feel like a more intuitive/explanatory tutorial would benefit the players of the game a lot. It's such a gorgeous game, so atmospheric, I'm enjoying it as it is and don't regret the purchase, but I really can't wait to see the progression, as it's clear the dev is really personally invested in it. For that, thanks!
Sorry about that, I was asleep at the wheel and got the tutorial files mixed up in the initial game submission, that's been corrected in update 1.1, but in the meantime, you can check out our tutorial here: http://necronomicon.forum-motion.com/tips-and-tricks-f3/game-play-tutorial-new-t14.htm
Hmm, well, played again, and was kinda disappointed actually in this "new" content I missed before. It was only one video that I encountered in my first room search - I guess you get it when you first search any room, whereas I thought it was specific to the room. So no other new videos. And the large size images of the rooms are nice, but nothing I haven't already seen. Anyway, looking forward to the updates.
Bought this last night. Looked interesting. Tried 3 games, all crashed and lost all data. Why was this released in this state? Was it not tested on 3g Itouch with latest OS? Will be asking Apple for refund.
With the exception of a card stuck on the screen, preventing you from proceeding (which I know is already being taken care of) - I love this game already. Cannot wait for the next update. This reminds me of Arkham Horror, without having to find other players.
In the beginning there was a lot more video cut-scenes I wanted to put in, but across all the various devices it ate up a lot of memory and caused a lot of problems with running out of memory during testing, I still hope to figure out a way we can include full video cut-scenes in the future, where it will randomly pick from a list of possible video vignettes to play at certain junctions - but dang, it's really hard to figure out a way to fit all this stuff in a tiny device that fits in your front shirt pocket! I'll keep working on it though, because the video cut-scenes were one thing I really hated to lose!
Please dont scale your game down on account of a few people who refuse to update their phones. At some point they just have to realize that to play the cool stuff requires updated hardware.
I have already read the tutorial but still, I can't see how the player affects with his choices the process of the game. I'r really appreciate if someone who has already played the game a lot, could give me some tips or detailed instruction regarding this
Not really sure what you're looking for here? Where exactly you place the cards are how you affect the process of the game. For example, if you place a monster on the top row with a high sanity and defense, and a investigator on the bottom row with a low sanity and defense, you will lose that investigator. However, if you buff that space by placing a weapon card and other support card there first, you can then place the investigator (who would now get bonuses to his sanity/defense and damage), and they will have a better chance of killing the monster. Also, if you buff the monsters with cards which multiply their MQ (points), you can highly increase your final score. Basically my strategy is trying to keep a strong monster up to feed investigators to (if the bottom row is full of investigators and you draw another investigator, the doom clock will begin to close... if it closes completely you must go to the final board game... if you want a high score, you don't want it to close completely too soon), and a buffed/strong investigator to feed extra low value monsters to (if the monster row fills up, the doomsday clock starts opening if you draw more monsters, if it opens all the way you lose... you don't want this to happen either). In between, I try to buff the monster spaces with high multiplier cards, and try to wait until I get a monster with a high value to place there. Then try to get some good buffs for the investigator space under it, and wait until I get a good investigator to place them there. Not sure if this is the best strategy, and it's certainly not the only way to play, but it's what I do. As for the board game at the end, that part is indeed pretty straight forward. You move around the board until you find all the required items, go to the library, and then face the final horror in a dice battle. If you have more HP than the monster at the end, you win... if not... they win.
I don't write bad reviews, and I'm not even going to play it until the update comes out. I'll leave a good review or no review. I won't criticize a game on iTunes. In this discussion forum, however, I do feel it's reasonable to express criticism at times, because feedback is useful, it's how nature makes corrections. But don't read negative intention into my comments, because truthfully, it's not there. I'm trying to be helpful and friendly.
Actually, I wasn't crying at all. Try to discern the difference between objective statements and subjective statements. My statements were objective, not based on feelings.
I've gotten to the point where I just play the card game and don't bother with the board game aspect anymore. It REALLY needs to be tweaked to make it possible to lose. The last fight also needs to be more than a d20 battle. It should be its own card game, maybe played with a subset of the first card game. So much potential here though. I love the atmosphere of it all.
Cool imagining, gives me deja vu, I remember seeing all these scenes before in various movies but can't remember which ones or where... Hopefully del Toro's 2013 "Mountains of Madness" shapes up to be as cool as this. Maybe by then I'll do a 'Mountains' expansion set for the game as an IAP with an Anarctica setting! But right now I'm still working on our Miskatonic University expansion - there's still a lot of Lovecraft Country to explore before we get to the edge of the known world...
