Well you're in for a treat...Optimized for ipad and iphone, here's a football manager game that's like nothing you've ever seen before. An app that's ram packed with features and highly addictive gameplay. A new kind of football manager sports game with a unique, fast paced ARCADE style of play, where it's easy to pick up and tap your way through hours and hours worth of entertaining fun.Whether you call it a football or soccer game, all of the classic management elements are here. You create your own team from scratch, you build and sculpt your first squad to perfection. You then set your team on the path to glory, trying to claw your way out of the non-league park and up through five increasingly difficult leagues. If you've got what it takes to be a football manager then you'll finally make it to the glory and riches of the 'Gold league' summit, where only the best managers can survive. Be warned, competition is fierce at the top, you'll be testing your football / soccer manager skill in every single game and you'll be up against the toughest opposition possible. While climbing leagues, and playing in exciting cup games you'll be involved with managing a wide range of colourful player types. From psychopaths to fashion icons, will you be able to mould the perfect team and create a well oiled goal scoring football machine ?Make no mistake, the path to glory is not easy... football management is meant to be challenging. You'll need all of your wits about you as manager, as you develop your own styles of play. Will you adapt to your opposition? Or will you stamp your authority all over the league and force them all to adapt to you ?Decision making doesn't end there... it's tough going in the transfer market too. You'll need to always be 'on your game' as you search for the next superstar, bargain veteran or up and coming youth player. Wheel and deal your way to success with a tense, nail-biting bidding system. It's here where you'll compete with up to six opposition teams for your target player's signature. You asked for unlockables. Well, we've got unlockables ! Lot's of them. Win matches and you unlock a whole bunch of advanced tactics to choose from. Up against a talented strike force? Put your star defender in the centre of the ultra-defensive 'park the bus' tactic. Pitting your wits against a weak defence in the cup semi-final? Why not go completely 'GUNG HO!' and blitz them with an all out attacking approach. There's long ball, keep the ball, counter-attacking play, defensive, hard tackling, not to mention the infamous, 'chop down star man' tactic... plus tons more to keep you entertained.Everyone loves a good BONUS. Well we've got loads of those too ! Game time and success is rewarded in 'The manager : a football story'. Score goals, you get a bonus. Win the match, you get a bonus, come back from behind, you get a bonus (you get the idea). Keep playing and over time you're able to unlock the HUGE achievement bonuses that go directly into your club's 'Bank'.There are too many features to list in 'The Manager : A Football Story', but here are some important points...--- It's Extremely easy to pick up and play. (that is, if you can put it down).--- Because absolutely nobody asked, we've included a FREE FULL EDITOR so that you can create your own in-game environment. Add and save your favourite teams at the start and simply tap any players name during the game to change it. Like that's it's not over complex like some of the modern footy manager games. I'd like a football manager c64 remake 2bigpixels Member Sep 29, 2015 7 0 0 Mobile Game Development Walsall, UK #11 2bigpixels, Dec 26, 2015 Hey guys, thanks for the kind words, praise and encouragement. We truly hoped that our efforts would lead to (above all else) a fun time for players. We tried to keep the core principles of football manager games, but we wanted it to be simple in excecution, in a fun, colourful arcade style. The game itself took over a year to make. We're only a 2 man small studio (a coder and an artist) and we made it in our spare time (at home). This is why it's not fully responsive on all screens. To be truthful, we simply didn't have the manpower of a large studio to cater for all of the different sizes. So we really had no choice but to choose a resolution and stick to it. We opted for the 1024x768 of the ipad and although it's not ideal, it's only really a small inconvenience when we considered the big picture. It enables us to get it out there for lots of people to play. We (genuinely) hope that you have lots of fun. But got to the match engine, then deleted. Breath of fresh air, but the match engine is a bit of a hit/miss for me. A style of match engine I wouldn't mind seeing these redux football managers use is the kind that you get when you watch in-play on a bookies site. Edit- sorry to post this after the developer. Most people will love it I think as it really rebreathes some of the appeal of pre- the FM series. 2bigpixels Member Sep 29, 2015 7 0 0 Mobile Game Development Walsall, UK #13 2bigpixels, Dec 26, 2015 Hey thumbs07, please don't feel any need apologise in any way, it's great to express your opinion, it's most welcomed. The thing with game development, is that you just can't please everyone, it's prety much an imposible task. You can only ever aim to try and win a majority. You have to constantly work within tight limits, both that of hundreds of different physical devices, the software that you're using to actually create the game and also the demands of real life situations. This basically translates to 'sacrifice' - You develop games, constantly sacrificing one thing for another. The funny/ironic thing is, that for every person that wants some kind of specific feature, such as a 3d match engine or something similar... there's another person that doesn't want it. All we really have left is are our own aims. These aims all have to fit within the limits of physical devices, memory limitations etc. So one of our main aims, was to make a game where players could just relax, not have to think too much about what they needed to do and then be able to 'tap away', building and creating their squads without needing too much concentration. We needed to accomplish this, but we also needed to keep 'depth', we needed just enough in-game content to keep players entertained without being too demanding. It's that building and creating that we wanted to focus on, more so than the match engine. After all, people tend to get bored of certain aspects of repetition and although the outcome of the matches are very important, we didn't believe that it's the main source of enjoyment for this particular game. Almost everyone i know used to switch the old school Championship Manager engine to text only and have it run through as fast as possible, lol. This never really seem to impact on the playability of the game, it was a wonderful feature. Best wishes, Carl @ 2bigpixels. thumbs07 Well-Known Member Jul 20, 2010 916 0 16 UK #14 thumbs07, Dec 26, 2015 yep I know where you're coming from. I do heartedly agree with your approach. I was a big fan of the football manager type of games that was on the Amiga, (I believe called Premier Manager). And there is a sort of resentment that the FM series essentially killed them all. (Particuarly with the birth of the 2d/3d match engine) I fully agree a 3d match engine is very intense development, and is not needed for the success of a football management game, but it seems a trial/error approach by developers to discover this alternative path. I hope your iteration is successful though. One quality I think is needed is arcade-like appeal, and I do reckon this game has that. (I might try game again and get over my agony of a ball going back and forth) Bloodangel Well-Known Member Jan 19, 2011 1,824 46 48 Retail England #15 Bloodangel, Dec 26, 2015 I like this game, the simplicity of it. I do wish it had a simple match engine like the original football manager game on c64. That showed you simple highlights of game. There was a good footy manager game by gameloft a long while ago, that I really enjoyed. It had good animation and showed you match highlights, and was a nice, simple manager game. 2bigpixels Member Sep 29, 2015 7 0 0 Mobile Game Development Walsall, UK #16 2bigpixels, Dec 27, 2015 Hi Bloodangel, Oh that takes me back. The 'good old days' full of nostalgia and happy memories. I remember the original Football Manager well, and the highlights that you're mentioning. At the time, they were awesome. They captured the esscence of their purpose brilliantly. If anything, it's probably more difficult to recreate that now. Mainly because back then you had no choice but to be simple. Simple, was the pinnacle of game developing in those days. Graphics were mostly basic blocks and that was the players maximum 'expectation'. Nowadays, the same principle would probably lead to flood of 1star reviews on the app store, lol - as expectations of the newer generation are much, much higher. We're had a couple of comments about the lack of a 3d match engine, but players don't really understand that it's an impossibility (because of previously mentioned limits)- they're driven (quite rightly) by their expectiations. Even though the principle behind the match representations is exactly the same, the excecution of it succesfully is a million miles apart. A difference that's grown, not because of the game or idea, but rather the technology behind it. It was very difficult to settle on something that would work, both in terms of displaying information and being 'handled' by the lower powered mobile devices. Carl @ 2bigpixels Bloodangel Well-Known Member Jan 19, 2011 1,824 46 48 Retail England #17 Bloodangel, Dec 27, 2015 Thanks for your reply Carl. I still have the original football manager 2 and the add on, cassettes in their box Thing is, people like us, may like the nostalgia that a blocky highlights would bring. Minecraft is all blocky, and doing well.... I don't understand that though, as I think it's rubbish.. Does my eyes in trying to work out what things should be lol But a retro, blocky football manager I would like Turki Member Nov 9, 2015 9 2 3 #18 Turki, Dec 29, 2015 Game is awesomely addicting! Now in Three League and had a good winning-streak. Game is fun and simple enough for all. My favorite hero sold 471 shirts already! Hope graphics will be updated one day, and more in-depth game simulation (i want to see the goals) and some tactic-guidance lol. Wish i could reset (losing) game by closing app but nope doesnt happen good job i guess 2bigpixels Member Sep 29, 2015 7 0 0 Mobile Game Development Walsall, UK #19 2bigpixels, Dec 29, 2015 Hey Turki, thanks a bunch for the kind words, we're happy to hear that you're enjoying the game. (if you get a chance to, please consider leaving a review for us on the app store. I can't understate how important this is for us with regards to the app store ranking algorithm. A lot of devs simply 'buy' or 'swap' reviews to climb the charts, but this leads to a kind of false report and you'll never really get a good guage on where you could improve.) We do listen to comments, we absolutely take them on board and over time we should be able to build up a good enough picture to work out where we could make improvements. We'll update when we can, but it may be a little while off yet. It's really difficult to make adjustments in the short term as games are kind of like a massive bowl of spaghetti. The code for the match information for example, is linked to all kinds of other parts of the game and they all get tangled up together as you build parts of the game. Towards the end of development, when you change one tiny, tiny thing in the code... it can cause all kinds of wierd, crazy things to happen in seemingly unrelated parts. There comes a TON of testing with even the slightest of changes. We had one funny 'bug' crop up towards the end of making the game where we saw the goalkeeper come spontaneously bursting out of his goal, knocking all of the defenders out of the way on the tactic screen. it was funny to see, but a nightmare to find out why he suddenly started doing it. it took many, many hours of testing to work it out and it was something completely unobvious. It's wonderful to hear gamers enjoying the game, in the way that we intended. The building and evolving of the team and simple control is exactly what we were trying to achieve. Thanks again for taking the time to offer your insight and kind words.
