I started playing this game today. How do you guys have so many characters unlocked? They're so expensive! I've only been playing practice mode because I suck. I'm bad with every single character and always end up with a bad k:d ratio. I'm thinking of getting Master Yi next because he's actually affordable compared to other champions..Any thoughts?
Master Yi is a really good character to start off with. Also, if you win a match and you play well, I think you can get like 100 gold (or whatever the currency is ) so yea, it does take awhile.
Yeah they are expensive. Dont waste time on practice games (unless you really do care about your KD ration). Just start playing real games and you'll learn quick. Plus thats the only way to acquire gold. And yes, Master Yi is a great champion to start with, as he is cheap and relatively easy to play.
Please please please don't unlock Master Yi, the number of people that unlock him asap and just feed the whole game is unbearable. You already admit you get poor k:d ratios, Master Yi is not going to help that with his generally low HP. I recommend saving for one of the 1350 IP heroes, like Poppy, it might seem like a lot but it's well worth it. Also, just play the rotation heroes? I consider my unlocks to be secondary to whats on offer each week.
Imagine a 20 - 50 minute RPG, where you start with a fresh character each time, you learn spells, kill stuff, buy stuff, that kind of RPG stuff. Now imagine that short RPG is a PvP arena, but with an objective. You play in two teams, each trying to destroy the others base. NPCs spawn for each side in waves at set intervals, and attempt to attack the enemies base. These are your general XP and gold harvesting targets. They are not 'champions', they do not level up or have spells, they are much much weaker than players. The tactics of the game mostly revolve around two things. The first is becoming stronger than opposing players, by either farming more xp and gold (for better items), or by killing them, giving you a cash bounty and forcing them to wait till they respawn. The second is 'pushing' the enemy base. Each base is protected by defensive turrets that must be destroyed in order to gain access to the base. By continually killing waves of enemy NPCs in an single area, your waves of allied NPCs will have amassed, and will eventually reach a turret, or even the base. The game is FREE and completely FREE TO PLAY. There is no reason you shouldn't at least give it a try. There are currently ~40 different "Champions" (or classes, to the laymen) to play, with 10 of those free to play each week (they change every week). You can pay to unlock champions permanently, or use IP gained from matches to do so. Just a really sketchy outline, and it turned out longer than I thought too. It's an easy to learn, but there's depth to it
I'm also gonna get a tank when I have enough IP. I'm looking for a tank that costs 1350 IP. Should I get Sion or Singed?
Meh, I played the HoN beta, I liked it, I'd play it, but it's free vs paid so I may as well go with the free. And DotA is pretty much dead to me now. It was a fun ride, but I've gone through so many private servers now, and I can't find any more decent ones that will punish leavers. Makes it nigh impossible to get a good game.
same with me i really loved dota but if some1 left the game the game was nearly over in hon you got a count that says how often you leave games if its to high you won´t come into certain games my main problem with HON is that you got a PlayerSkillRating and if you lose to much matches it is very low and you won´t get into good games and as i am playing 5on5 one bad player in my team is enough to lose ...
Which 3150 champ has good health, good damage, and is able to get to an opponent quickly and kill him? Is that asking for too much? And also, what 3150 champ would you reccommend?
Hmm... I'm not to sure how much he costs, but Pantheon is my favorite champ. If you build his runes as well as his items correctly he will have decent health (although not the best). Also his damage can be incredible (with the correct build of course). And his ultimate is great for getting into a teamfight or to a falling tower quickly. I always use Flash with him as well, to get the runners with low health. I may post by build on here soon, as its very effective.
You should save for Mordekaiser. He's probably the best Tank (IMO) that does the most damage (if you build him right). Alistar is also a good and cheap tank. Cho'gath is good also, but hard to get use too. But of the two you chose, I guess Sion is the better choice. But I've never played Singed yet.
Try Shen. He is a crazy ninja. He has a ton of health, has a very strong shield, he can do a lot of damage (depends on your build), and he can teleport across the map and aid an ally instantly. Although, you have to get use to getting assists when starting out with him. As JohnC. suggested, Pantheon is also very good. He has multiple attacks, a large shield for defense, and his ult allows him to jump to basically anywhere on the map and land a great amount of damage to anyone within the jump's range. He is also 3150 IP

Riot Games (the creators of League of Legends) are the ones behind DotA. This explains everything about DotA and Lol: http://www.leagueoflegends.com/learn/dota_and_lol Heroes of Newerth isn't free unfortunately so League of Legends is a better choice for the general audience. There's actually over 55 different and unique champions.
I thought the same thing when I first started. But, you'll get use to it all. You should try Ryze out. He's only 1350 IP, but is very easy to use. He also is a really "cheap" character because he can do so much Area of Effect damage in so little time. He's perfect for new guys like yourself. Ugh... Why are all these new champs so expensive? Kog'Maw, Vlad, now Galio? sigh... I'm gonna have to save my points for a while...
lol, morde is a crazy tank. he can be swarmed by 4 guys and still take out at least 2 before dieing. He's also a very good farmer and pusher cause of his siphon. Do you have a neat strategy to morde ManofAegis? cause i'll set up a game with you and a some of my friends. Oh, and about sion and singed, try singed out. He's really fun. They are all tier 3 champs. Seriously, Galio's ult is insane esp. paired up with Anivia. Vlad is such a crazy champ too cause he is hard to kill with all his heals.
Yeah, I'm pretty good with Morde. I play him quite a bit. In fact, I think I'll post my strategy soon. Skin Sales this weekend! Also, there's some secret new skins coming out (all of them esp. Warwick's look awesome). - New Annie Skin: Annie in Wonderland (possibly a legendary skin) - New Warwick Skin: Tundra Hunter Warwick - New Singed Skin: Hextech Singed There's also Riot Singed that is also suppose to come out soon.
My Mordekaiser (semi)Guide Mordekaiser, the Master of Metal: This is how I play Mordekaiser, who is by far the best tank available (in my opinion). He is the most unique tank especially with his passive. Instead of traditional mana or energy, he has a sub-bar which allows him to convert damage into health that can diminish over time. This unique passive allows him to tank more harshly, take more damage from turrets, and basically own anyone. His ultimate allows him to summon the souls of fallen opponents as servants to fight for him. Summoner Spells: Ghost and Ignite Why Ghost? Well, considering Mordekaiser being a remarkably slow character, ghost is perfect for escaping a gank, or catching up to your allies to tank for a lane or gank. Why Ignite? Well, Mordekaiser's ultimate is a DoT (damage over time) spell called Children of the Grave. Just pop ignite in with this spell and bam! You'll be getting so many kills off of fleeing enemies with peril health. Items: - Start with a Doran's Shield and grab a health potion. - Next are your boots - Build Sorcerer's Shoes if you need magic penetration, or build Mercury Treads if you need magic resistance/ reduce duration of disables. - Then build 3 Sunfire Capes as fast as you can (building only 2 is fine also if you need more specific items). Sunfire's give 450 health and 40 (or so) armor along with a surrounding fire aura that damages nearby enemies. These will rip enemies apart and even help you maul minions for farming. - After that, build what you need to successfully tank (see below): > Force of Nature for Magic Resistance. Good for against magic AP characters such as Ryze, Anivia, Annie, Morgana, etc. > Warmog's Armor. Gives you more tanking opportunities since it gives you up to 700 health and plenty of health regeneration. > Frozen Mallet. If you want to do more damage while still being able to tank, grab this. It gives you plenty of health, increases damage, and slows enemy units when you whack em with your mace. > Guardian Angel. This is absolutely perfect for Mordekaiser. If your team is struggling to get the upper-hand, this will provide the perfect opportunity for you to take all the damage and still survive. The provided armor and magic resistance are a welcome bonus. > Thornmail. Are you constantly being harassed by melee DPS? Then this will rip them apart. Not only does it provide 100 armor, but it also returns 30% physical damaged received as magic damage. Quick Skill Descriptions: Mace of Spade - On next hit, Mordekaiser swings his mace with such force that it echoes out, striking up to 3 additional nearby targets, dealing damage plus bonus damage. If the target is alone, the bonus damage is doubled. On next hit, Mordekaiser swings his mace with such force that it echoes out, striking up to 3 additional nearby targets, dealing 20/40/60/80/100 (+) magic damage. If the target is alone, the base damage is doubled. Creeping Death - Unleashes a protective cloud of metal shards to surround an ally, increasing their armor and magic resistance and dealing damage per second to enemies in the cloud. Unleashes a protective cloud of metal shards to surround an ally, increasing their armor and magic resistance by 10/15/20/25/30 and dealing 20/35/50/65/80 (+0.15) magic damage per second to enemies in the cloud for 6 seconds. Siphon of Destruction - Mordekaiser deals damage to enemies in a cone in front of him. For each unit hit, Mordekaiser's shield absorbs energy. Mordekaiser damages enemies in a cone in front of him, dealing 65/110/155/200/245 (+0.4) magic damage. For each unit hit, Mordekaiser's shield absorbs an additional 6/9/12/15/18 health. Children of the Grave - Mordekaiser curses an enemy, stealing a percent of their life each second. If the target dies while the spell is active, their soul is enslaved and will follow Mordekaiser for 30 seconds. Curses an enemy champion for 8 seconds, stealing 3/3.5/4% life per second (plus an additional 0.1% per 50 AP) as magic damage. If the target dies while under the effect of the curse, their soul is enslaved and will follow Mordekaiser for 30 seconds. During this time, Mordekaiser gains 25% of their ability power and attack damage. The spirit gains 65/75/85% + (+%) of Mordekaiser's adjusted damage, ability power, and 50% + (+%) of Mordekaiser's health. Pets can be controlled by holding the alt key and using the right mouse button. Skill Distribution: Siphon of Destruction is your biggest and strongest attack. Max this out as soon as possible. Creeping Death is your second best skill. With it, you'll take less damage will having a strong AoE damage (with your sunfire capes, Creeping Death will take basically anything out). Mace of Spades = MS Creeping Death = CD Siphon of Destruction = SD Children of the Grave = CG 1) SD, 2) MS, 3) SD, 4) CD, 5) SD, 6) CG, 7) SD, 8) CD, 9) SD, 10) CD, 11) CG, 12) CD, 13) CD, 14) MS, 15) MS, 16) CG, 17) MS, 18) MS Skill Usage: Harass with SD. After a while, equip CD run in and get close, enable MS and attack. Use SD again, then place CG on him/her (and ignite, if you need). If they are escaping and have barely any health and CG plus ignite are on cool down, use ghost (if you have to) then finish them with SD. That's all you really need to know about him. He is a bit complicated at first, but he is worth the trouble of learning. Also, if you can, try to get mid during early game. It might sound crazy, but with this build, and Morde's Siphon attack, he can take nearly anyone 1 on 1 (except champs like Teemo and Twitch who can go invisible, Fiddlesticks who is nearly impossible to harass with his heals, and Heimerdinger who will hold you back drastically). Just about everyone else is a breeze.
Cool build looks like it's really flexible (which is good). I think I'll try it sometime when Mord is free again. Hey, If you want to get a game going, lemme know. Cause, you as mord with this build plus me as xin with my friend as shen, and my brother as annie, and another friend as heim will work really well. let me know in-game
