EDIT: After seeing the new front page post on League of Legends, I decided to revive this thread. http://toucharcade.com/2011/05/11/the-app-store-needs-freemium-games-like-league-of-legends/

So, I created this thread for all those League of Legends players out there on TA. League of Legends is quite a complicated online game that requires plenty of skill and strategy. This is the place for fellow members to share their strategies, champion builds, rune builds, and so on.

If you don't know what League of Legends is, you can search the name on a search engine then go to their website. Basically, League of Legends is an upgraded version on the infamous DotA (Defender of the Ancients) from Warcraft III.

This is their website: http://www.leagueoflegends.com/ Also, if you're interested in playing, it's completely free.

This is a place where people could ask fellow members some questions, such as:
    - Who's a good counter to ____?
    - How do you jungle with ____?
    - Who is a good character to buy?
Also, this is a place for fellow TA members to add each other as friends in the game, because it is more fun to play with people you know and can trust rather than random people.
Lastly, I'm not affiliated with Riot Games (the creators of the game), but merely a player/fan of their game.

Yeah, games take about 20 mins. to 60 mins. long each. But usually at 20 mins. one of the teams surrenders.

That's a pretty long game, do they honestly expect players to play for a half an hour, to an entire hour?

Yeah definitely. The game before League of Legends (DotA) was the same length and was the most popular feature in Warcraft III battle.net. But, the game seriously requires such lengthy games in order for it to be any fun. Any shorter would be horribly boring. But trust me, you're never left in the dust. You're always cautious, ready to fight when needed, and anxious to move around. Any hesitation could place you far behind the other players. But it's definitely more forgiving for new players though, so there's no need to worry at first. But, yeah. You're going to need to be willing to play a 25 min - 60 min game at a time. If you leave a game early, you're leaving your teammates to suffer a frustrating loss (unless they're incredibly good).
When you can get into a game of 5v5 in less than 20 seconds, you can also tell that many people are playing. Plus, once some people start, they can't stop playing and get addicted - like World of Warcraft addiction status.

You're not able to create an account? I'm sure there's a simple reason. I posted a link to the support page. Maybe it'll help. ;)

Oh, then... I'm not quite sure then. Right now, the game is undergoing some maintenance and issuing some new champions, so that might be related... but normally it shouldn't hinder any registering.

Also, it's possibly connected to your firewall settings. That's what happened to me at first, I had to let the website through the firewall first before signing-up.

I'm an addict! I've been playing for about 2 months. But now I have some more free time so I've played quite a bit.
I'm still not very good at it yet. My favorite champ so far has got to be Teemo. I also enjoy Alistar, Master Yi, Pantheon, and Ryze. I have yet to play many others, those are just the ones I have explored the most.
Was hoping to play tonight but the servers have been down :(

Here's a gameplay-like video of a champion known as Xin Zhao (who is also one of the most overpowered champions). But this covers what the game looks like in a typical match.

(I had some trouble uploading it to this thread for some reason, so here's just the link.)

P.S. you could just skip towards the middle, that's when the action starts.

Nice! I use Ryze and Master Yi as my main champions, mainly because they're just so easy to use. But I also tank with Mordekaiser, assassinate with Jax, tank with Shen, and (cheaply) own with Xin Zhao.

    Hey add me: Sirgh0st
    What level are you?

Master Yi Guide (based on Belenzor's Guide)

So, I'll start off with my strategy to Master Yi. I got this off of a strategy build website known as mobafire but re-worded some things, and included some new things. So, not all of this is my idea.

I didn't include any Masteries and Rune Builds because, 1. I'm too low level to have full access to all masteries and runes so my word isn't the best, and 2. It'll be too difficult to explain the best choices without pictures or examples.

My Guide to Master Yi (based on Belenzor’s Guide)

Master Yi is a speedy character that deals great amount of damage in short amounts of time.
He is the perfect chaser, has plenty of DPS, has great amount of attack speed, easy to play, and a good carry.
But he is also easy to be harassed by other melee characters (such as Morde, Xin, Amumu, Shaco, etc.)

    Spells

So, for the spells, I choose Exhaust and Flash.
Why Exhaust? Because it makes chasing a lot easier. If they try to run, just whack him with exhaust, jump up to them with Alpha Strike (or just run), then boom, boom, pow! = dead.
Why Flash? Because it allows you to catch up to running enemies. If you're busy whacking a guy and he tries running away, flash! slice-n-dice! = dead. Or if you're busy whacking two guys, and one is almost dead and tries to run, flash! pop! = dead. Run back. Pap! Pap! = dead = double kill!! :D
You also could use Ghost if you want, but considering that Highlander already greatly increases your speed, it won't be necessary (but it can save you at times).

    Master Yi's Skills

Double Strike (Passive) - Master Yi strikes twice every 7th attack. This speaks for itself.

Alpha Strike - Master Yi leads across the battlefield with blinding speed, dealing magic damage to multiple units in chance to deal bonus magic damage to minions. Basically, Master Yi leaps and strikes 4 enemies dealing 100/150/200/250/300 damage. This works really well as a harassment mechanism as well as a escape. This is also a good way to start a gank with your teammates.

Meditate - Master Yi rejuvenates his body by focus of mind, restoring health and increasing his armor and magic resistance for a short time. Master Yi channels, restoring 150/300/500/750/1100 health over 5 seconds. This skill is the last skill you will need. It makes a big difference late game but isn't as useful early game. So do not put any points in this skill until level 13.

Wuju Style - Master Yi becomes skilled in the art of Wuju, passively increasing the power of his physical attacks. When active, Wuju Style doubles the passive bonus damage for a short time, but the passive bonus is temporarily removed after the effect. Passive: increases physical damage by 15/20/25/30/35. This is your most useful skill. You want to strain all your points into this skill for it passively increases your damage. Very good to use early game and still good late game.

Highlander (Ultimate) - Master Yi moves with unparallel agility, temporarily increasing Master Yi's movement and attack speed as well as making him immune to all slowing effects. Additionally, killing a champion refreshes all of Master Yi's cooldowns. Increases movement speed by 40%, and attack speed by 40/60/80% and becomes immune to all slowing effects for 6/9/12 seconds. This is your most important skill for it makes you a dangerous assassin killer! With this, you can chase enemies through the jungle, run away from failing ganks, or just plain own!

    Using Skills

    You should fight like this:

Alpha strike on hero, then enable Wuju Style then bam! Dead… or Alpha Strike on a hero, enable Wuju Style - he’s running? No problem - enable Highlander then bam! Dead! Wait, skills refreshed? Who’s next? If something goes wrong, enable Highlander and flee for your life! WOW! He’s miles behind! Or, wow! They caught up (somehow)! Flash! = Freedom!!

    Skill Distribution

Put your skill points in this order:

    1) Wuju, 2) Alpha, 3) Wuju, 4) Alpha, 5) Wuju, 6) Highlander, 7) Wuju, 8) Alpha, 9) Wuju, 10) Alpha, 11) Highlander, 12) Alpha, 13) Meditate, 14) Meditate, 15) Meditate, 16) Highlander, 17) Meditate, 18) Meditate.

    Items

Grab “Vampiric Scepter” as your first item. It has life steal which will prove more useful than stocking up on health potions.

Then grab “Malady" ASAP. Why “Malady” you may ask? Well it’s a cheap item and gives you 15% lifesteal which will prove very useful later on. And it gives you attack speed which is good for getting early kills.

After that, grab your boots: “Beserker Greaves”. They give you attack speed as well as movement speed. These are a must.

Then grab “Phantom Dancer”. With this, you gain more critical, attack speed, and dodge which very good combined with Wuju Style.

After that, get either “The Bloodthirster” or “Infinity Edge” or both if you have enough time and money (and really owning bad).

As the last item (if the game lasts that long) should be, in my opinion, a “Last Whisper”, for it gives more damage and speed. So, why not?

So, that’s about it for my guide. Not everything is my idea though, but I crafted this guide using Belenzor’s guide on mobafire as a skeleton to build on. So I hope this helps and good luck owning!! ;)

Here's a couple videos that might help with gameplay (they don't exactly follow the guide though)

League of Legends is a great game. Play it a ton ;) and I just got to level 30 :D
Not so sure you should use malady as a early item though for Yi, but stocking up on those last whispers is a beter idea. because atk speed and dmg would prove to more useful than life steal later on. But ya, malady is still good. also, for meditate, if ur being harrassed a lot in the beginning, it would be smart to put one point in it, but if ur owning, then u dont need it. meditate is really underestimated, and very useful later on.

    Doing nothing of importance.
    Somewhere
Can someone kinda sum up what DotA and LoL is all about? I always hear people talking about DotA, but I've never understood what it is. I tried watching some gameplay on Youtube of LoL, but I couldn't really understand what was going on.
