Is there any other games you could compare it to so people know what to expect? I love SRPG games but sometimes it's a misleading tag also portrait mode is something I always look for but its no deal breaker. EDIT: WOW! After seeing that gameplay video and that beautiful bald eagle I am ready to take the plunge
By popular demand, I've put together a video of raw gameplay. The previous trailer was 100% in-game footage as well, but this one shows all the user interface and individual moves. Meaning it's slower to watch but shows the gameplay style more clearly. There are various scenes in the video from a couple of different quests, so skip ahead to see more. Also note that this 10 minute video still only shows a fraction of the features of the full game. Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel
Video looks pretty interesting. The pics alone had me interested because it looked like and adventure/strategy minecraft like game... but the video makes it clear this is more a pure strategy game. It's something I'll keep in mind if I get back into buying iOS games as I love strategy gaming and this looks like something I seriously could get into. Game experiences that are awesome exist outside of how much money they cost. Playing Shenmue on the Dreamcast or that first game of Super Mario Bros or whatever. It doesn't matter that I got Shenmue for $20 new or SMB came bundled with my NES and I paid $0 for it, or a friend gave me my copy of Super Mario Bros 2. Those experience will stay with me for my lifetime despite not paying much for them. It's not the price but the experience of a great game. iOS gaming though is such a dang huge risk. A $5 game today could be a $0 freemium tomorrow or filled with ads and with a sneaky update you may not know till it's too late. Devs go under and their games also get pulled from the store. Apple updates iOS and that kills games too. It's such a massive risk buying games on iOS. Super Mario Bros? I can still play my 25+ year old game and system and it'll just work (maybe with a little q-tip & rubbing alcohol pin cleaning). It'll be the same game, same experience and no grief at all. It's not about the money, I bought 4 PS3 games this weekend for $10... which makes each of them 1/2 the cost of this one strategy game. With iOS gaming, there are only two options... put money in knowing it could be money thrown out with an awesome experience you may never have again or don't put money in but treat it as a throw away gaming platform (like an empty cup of coffee)... or just don't play. I'm leaning towards not playing anymore but it's only because of the ecosystem being geared to provided little to no buyer protection and many devs taking advantage of it.
These are excellent points. That said, this game is easily worth the $5, even if I got to play it for the next 2-3 months.
It also plays better, and is more fun than the "biggest" titles. Many of which over-shoot their platform, and end up sad shadows of console brethren. Fact is, I'm loving this more than titles that cost 3-4x more. Sid's "Starships" comes to mind. $5 is a pittance, and if you think it's too much, then why not just vanish? What makes you think anyone here cares that you're indignant about a $5 price tag?
Would you say it's deep in strategy ? From video it seems like a awesome game, but maybe simple ? Move/ use strongest spell on target kinda thing, just assuming though, someone let me know, and high replay ability ? Thanks ahead of time looks like a great game
There's a lot of organic-feeling strategy. In the quests, resources are set, and the decision of what to craft is paramount, as the difficulty ramps up considerably by the 2nd quest proper. Observing enemies is key, and rushing in can be crucial sometimes, and a deadly mistake in other moments. Enemies can craft, and if they get to a cache of materials before you get a jump on them, they'll be better equipped by the time you catch up with them. Height advantages exist, and can be created by scorching the earth, then attacking from above, as enemies cross the pit. Beasts can be mounted, but cannot open doors or carry items. Chests and puzzles litter the map. Keys, scrolls, switches, secret rooms... The works. The list goes on. I'm really impressed with the stability and depth of this game. It's my favorite TBS right now, and I hope to see a download community for user-crafted modules, one day.
Just like icepulse has said, this game is fun as much as its crazy deep! Just had time to finish the tutorial and play more tonight, and it's awesome. Also the game runs incredibly smooth, for anyone hesitating it's totally worth it!
Here's a kind gentle encouraging post urging you to buy this game. It's well worth the price, and has multiplayer. Get sorcery once you're finished the main story here. You'll be warm and cozy and full of joy playing this game. Sorcery will make you feel cold & sad unless you play it after this. I'm telling you this because I care About you deeply That work?
Looks really interesting, but I can't really watch the video because of all the camera motion. Can all the camera movement be disabled in-game?
You can play from whatever camera view you set and keep it locked right there, so you can set a classic isometric view and just leave it. Hope that makes sense
