This game still hasn't dropped in price yet:D

I got the first one, but just couldn't get into it like how I can just pick up Volt and have fun... So don't really want to waste money.

Akuma is not newbie friendly. He has the lowest health. Couple of mistakes and it's over for him. I suggest starting out with Ryu/Ken if you like shotos. At the very least just to get used to the game mechanics.

Then again, maybe you are sadistic and enjoy one hell of a challenge. :D

Thanks for the tips Luis. I did start doing some BnB practice today with Ralf and I can already feel the difference. Robert will probably be up next as I still feel like he's the weak link in my team. Glad King gives you a hard time. ;)

But I'll hit you up for some more games soon after I've had a little time to work. Thanks again man!

Good games! Yeah you can get your ass handed to you on Ranked. I think a lot of the scrubs gave up and it's mainly good players playing now.

Your Billy and Ryo had me raging lol! It's so weird coming from SF4 where there's so little blockstun to a game like this where blockstun lasts an eternity. It really makes it hard to punish stuff. There were so many times when I was like "Ugh! Can't....punish.....too...much....block....stun!!"

I've been playing Volt again here and there. Ranked is still a joy as always (sarcasm) and my connection can be a bit finicky so I haven't really hit up any tA'ers. But I'd be down to play a little Volt sometime. Good playing with you again!

There's some noobs still playing ranked, but I bet they were more plentiful when the game was first released. Lot of people stuck with Athena and Kensou and just stick to the full screen fireball dash up and do something... I need the recording feature in training mode for this!!

It was fun playing against you. Your King is so tough to get in on. And when I did, I would get punished . I just like Billy and Ryo because of their ability to keep that pressure up so it's not a hard transition from Bison, but they seem very incomplete characters outside of the shenanigans I use. I hate that Ryo's and Robert's <- + S are drive cancellable but it's impossible to connect anything ...

I've turned up the notch on playing Volt yesterday after getting pummeled in this game just so I remind myself that I'm not that bad at fighting games hahaha. If you're ever interested in playing Volt against us TAers, just stop by the chatzy room we have and challenge each one of us there :p.

Yeah man. I share your frustration on the <----S. I think They just fall into the mixup and combo ender bnb's.

Gah I'm SOOOOOOO tired of lame Athena players but I'm starting to get the hang of how to deal with her.

You're real good with the pressure thing. Its a little harder in this game because everyone's so much more mobile than in SF4, but our matches were proof positive that it can work. King feels so effortless to play. Ralf too at times. I'm still trying to figure out the best team for me. I love Terry but I really wish they'd given him his A button Knuckle instead of the farther dashing one. Ryo and Robert's Genei Punch/Kick are meant to be canceled INTO and used more as a knockdown. At least that's the way I see it.

I had fun playing Volt against you today. Maybe I'll start jumping on a bit more.

Dude. Athena is really starting to get old, I'm sure people can say that about daimon.
I just wished there was someone out there who played her good. Proper max cancel and nice combos. That way I wouldn't mind her at all.

Well, was in a match and "Your battery is at 20%, please.. something" and it looks like I DC'd. This is like the 30th time this has happened.

Well, from playing KoF-i-.. I don't think it's my cup of tea. I'm too Street Fighter centric.

It's just too defense heavy for me. Yeah, there's guard break, but your opponent will have mashed out well before then.

I just don't believe a super should be beaten by a random normal. I'm sorry, but if you throw out something, and I react with a super and get hit out of it by that mashed out normal.. It's just.. Too different.

The game's not bad at all, it's good, I just don't like it personally. I'll keep trying at it, but I may end up uninstalling it and just going back to Volt.

I hate to say it, but I see this game getting overrun by Athena, Daimon, and other character teams. A lot of people are just gravitating towards the same few characters without giving anyone else a chance. For good reason, they're both really good characters, but it's going that direction.

Same with me. I really try to love this game but I just prefer Street Fighter.

I hear ya man. The thing that gets to me is if you make a character have powerful moves at least add a decent amount of recovery time. Athena is the worst for this. By the time you are out of blocking she has recovered.

I try to tell myself it's just a iOS game but man, wtf.

It also would help if SNK would have a damn sale for this game just to get hopefully new players who aren't lame.

For me, I don't like this game nearly as much as volt to justify spending much time. Sure I can do some basic stuff like King's df + SP xx b + SP, super, but beyond that really boggles my mind.

Also, I can never find a game in Asia area. Or at least anyone with good connection

Anyone here that loves the game despite the abuse of the top tiers?

Defense heavy? If anything, Volt is FAR more defense heavy than KoF is. The game practically punishes you for trying to mount any kind of offense. KoF isnt perfect but it rewards offense much more than SF4 does.

If anything I think SF4 makes you bad at fighting games. It basically rewards thoughtless and gutless play with ridiculous blockstun, mashy Ultras, and a general contempt for anyone who dares to play offense too much. I've gone back to playing SF2 Hyper Fighting and Super Turbo and my basics feel so rusty because of how SF4 plays. I was getting mad at how my Supers and special moves would get shut down, and how recovery was next to nothing for some characters in KoF but I realized that a lot of this is because Ive spent so much time playing SF4. I wish supers in Kof weren't so easy to stop but the EX versions tend to have more invincibility frames than the regular versions.

I agree about too many people playing Athena, Kyo, Iori, and Daimon but Kyo and Iori are like Ryu and Ken and Athena and Daimon are top tier and I don't see how that's any different from everyone and their brother using Ryu, Akuma, and Sagat in Volt.

Where I think KoF goes wrong is the HD and Max Cancel combos. It feels too much like Marvel in the sense that if you mess up once, you're pretty much going to lose that character. I know they take skill but the game gets dumb at that point.

I also feel like the cast is somewhat nerfed and the playstyles are a bit more homogenous than Volt. There are too many fireball/uppercut shoto type characters in this game IMO. It's close to half the cast.

Disagree. This game is defense heavy. Time runs out pretty quickly in this game. Guard crush in this version is useless, since you're getting mashed out well before. I've seen more offense in a retirement home than this game. Literally, this game is full of people that just down back all day long. I don't know how you get connected to, but all I get, besides a few, are people that literally go in the corner and wait. I see more people that just sit there all day. I understand this is different than SF. Nothing wrong with that. But when you play people that, not only pick the same couple of characters, but all play the same. Play hide and seek in the corner.

Now, do I hate the game? No. I just personally think it relies heavily on defense. Maybe it's my opponents, I don't know. But I do have matches where we literally just sit and look at each other for like 20 seconds of the game clock until one hits the other.

Some moves in this game are just off the wall. I mean, can it have at least some recovery? Fought a King that did that backwards kick all day. It just recovered immediately. Slide to backkick, rinse and repeat. It's not the person's fault, he/she is just using what they're given, but can it be somewhat unsafe? Then you have EX Kyo players that do that weird rekka thing, over and over. The SP assist is actually worse in this game than Volt to me.

I'm just going by my experience and no one elses. This is all opinion as well.

I don't know if my post came across as defensive (haha!), but I didn't mean it that way, so sorry if that's how it came out.

If time's running out, then you're not really playing the game as effectively as you could. The reason time runs so quickly is because they're trying to emphasize offense and big combos over camping out. Characters being as mobile as they are makes it harder to play keepaway, and if they're effectively playing keepaway from you, it probably means you aren't playing as offensively as you should be (and if you're coming from SF4, I can see how it would be your first instinct to play that way, because it was mine too.) I've always tended to play more offensively/rushdown so I don't find the timer runs out that often unless my opponent is REALLY good at running away, but I can usually but a stop to that.

But this game, much like MvC2, another game where the timer runs quickly, makes it clear that attacking your opponent as much as possible is the name of the game. Sure there are people who play super defensively, but I find that strategy a little easier to beat in this game than a runaway Akuma in SF4 because the characters here are given more tools to deal with that.

As far as moves being too safe, I think this is where Guard Cancel Roll or Guard Cancel Attack come into play, although these are two things I don't see happening very often online and unless you were to look at a KoFXIII wiki, you might not even know they existed in this game. Spammy play is spammy play regardless of what game we're talking about. You just have to find the best way to deal with it and keep playing I guess.

Oh no, it didn't come off like that lol. It's all good. Just putting my opinion in with yours is all. We both see the game differently. I just went with my current experiences with it. It's probably because I'm not utilizing certain things. Maybe I need to take some time to just learn more about the game and then really get back into it again.

Thanks Docta for your eloquent and incredibly true points.
As a long fan of the series I can honestly say that this might just be the most well balanced kof they've ever made.
That said, I can see your point on the hd combos, but with all due respect. If you knw how to connect them, they are a lot of fun and they keep the game balance because every carachter here can turn the match around at moments notice. (again, it's all about your skill level)
Oh man, there is a guy out there. Nanana8181818 or something that is the epitome of defensive, frustrating, and spammy playing. But as Docta said you just have to know where to hit them.
Some of us use our teams out of pure love, others are pure scrubs an others just for pure practicality.
Docta covered most of the points you bring up but I honestly and completely share your frustrations tenOnez.
I've lost some matches to some really shitty players. All games have it. Also I've lost a ton of matches because of phone calls and stupid battery message. Oh and don't even get me started on the rage quitters.

Anyways, the way you feel about kof. That's just how I feel about sf volt. Oh man the combos are so hard and oh. Is oh so slow. No small hop/jumps. Grr.

All I can say is play on, if you give it the time and effort, this game is so rewarding!!
