Got waxed by the final boss several times at level 40. This party just can't stand up to Almagest the way I have them set up. I figure I either need Holy-absorbing / nulling equipment or a whole ton of Elixirs to get around it, and I've got neither. So. Back out of the final dungeon we go. (Which, hilariously, got me one of the few achievements I didn't have.) I searched for the best EXP areas in the latter portion of the game, and after sifting through some VERY unhelpful "abilities matter more, lol" answers that did not answer the question, I found that Istory Falls is one of the better places. Problem: you need to do Fork Tower first. I decided to say screw it and gave it a shot. Threw my Knight and Lancer at the physical tower and my MKnight and Ninja at the magic tower. Physical tower was easy. Magic tower, um, took a while. I equipped them both with Reflect Rings and waited him out. Luckily the boss of that tower is pretty stupid, and is not immune to poison. I sat and watched as he killed himself, and now I have a submarine. Score!
Yeah the FJF really makes you take the unconventional route to winning a fight sometimes. It's pointless to look up strategies because they always say use this job or that job and we don't have that luxury. I like it though. I'm glad I jumped into this. I've been trying to find as many Elixirs as I can in preparation for the final boss. I've got 14 so far. I've got a ways to go as I've had a busy week but hopefully I'll have enough when the time comes.
Victory! Final loadout coming after the credits roll. (I like the song "Dear Friends", so I'll let the ending play out.) The final boss took me five tries after gaining quite a few levels and making sure everyone had mastered all four of my jobs, just to make sure I had plenty of options. It was pretty frustrating - I had three runs where I got him down to his last segment, and he wiped me out with Meteor. On the successful run, I managed to kill the Grand Cross segment before it could use GC, then kept the front two segments alive by alternating attacks on them until the very end, when I unloaded by throwing Masamune at one half and using all my physical attacks on the other. Spoiler for final boss strategy in case you don't want to know: Spoiler One of the four segments of the final boss is vulnerable to instant death. I used the Magic Lamp, found at the top of Istory Falls if you ride Boko up there, to summon Odin against the boss. This allowed me to "only" have to deal with three attacks per round instead of four, which really helped out with conserving Elixirs.
Krile Lv 54 Ninja: Sasuke's Katana / Assassin's Dagger / Tiger Mask / Black Garb / Hermes Sandals. Faris Lv 46 Knight: 2-handed Excalibur / Crystal Helm / Crystal Armor / Hermes Sandals Lenna Lv 47 Mystic Knight: Enhancer / Chicken Knife / Crystal Helm / Crystal Armor / Protect Ring. Obviously her secondary was Dual Wield. Bartz Lv 46 Dragoon: Holy Lance / Flame Shield / Crystal Helm / Crystal Armor / Reflect Ring. This layout gave me enough HP to take one physical attack and one Almagest with 3 out of 4 characters and still be alive. I ended up using all but 1 of the 14 Elixirs I had saved up, and used all of the 14 Fuma Shuriken, as well as chucking a couple of legendary weapons that I wasn't using. Also, it turns out that a Flare-enhanced maxed out Chicken Knife is really, really good, to the tune of 7000+ damage a shot. Krile was doing about 8000 damage per thrown Fuma Shuriken and about 2500 per regular Shuriken; she never physically attacked. Lenna was doing about 10,000 per round after enhancing her swords. Faris did about 4000 per hit with double-handed Excalibur, but she spent a lot of time chucking items around due to her Hasted status. Bartz was kind of the laggard in this scenario, doing about 3000 with Jump, and slowly to boot.
Congrats falcon! I just got wiped out by Exdeath in Galufs world. I don't think I'm even coming close. I'm at level 25 so I think I'm a little low. Going to try grinding for a while and try again.
I gained 8 levels and it took me three tries but I got past Exdeath. Not being able to heal is making things difficult. I've got to get some of those elemental rings so my Black Mage can heal everyone at once.
Congrats! I have now gotten my fire job ; Ranger, but I don't have it yet. Trying to figure out where the next big happening is. Went to Jachol and Jachol's cave to see if something important were there. Met the Skull Eaters who crushed me wen they didn't flee. Can I beat them somehow? Just going to cruise around some more and see what's out there.
Hi there guys ! Thought i would drop by... I started late, only 2 days ago in fact. I am doing the Job Fiesta, a normal run, just cleared the fire crystal ! So far my jobs are : Black Mage, Mystic Knight and Beastmaster. Ill keep you updated if you guys are interested #
Welcome! Definitely interested! ^^ For myself I got the ranger job in game too now and it was good thing, cause Sandworm..
I'm curious for those of you finished; how many hours did you clock in on? I'm currently 12 hours in.
Also gotta say I love the tone of the game. I love FFVI too, but I think they compliment each other perfectly. The characters feel "real" with all the goofiness and quick lines!
Sure. The more the merrier. You've gotten pretty far in two days. At that rate you'll probably finish before me.
It's definitely goofy. I never thought I'd see a TMNT reference in a Final Fantasy game. And Gilgamesh, that guy is hilarious.
Having finished it many times before I will say the average time to the credits roll is around 35 hours, you can squeeze a good 10-15 more hours for the superbosses (optional post game bosses)
The final time stamp on my FJF run was 18:55, but I was able to power through most battles on fast speed in Automatic mode.
Looks like we might be in for the first real session of grinding here. We have some tenta and a save spot, but no healing items to get me through a battle with five forms or so. I died onthe second.. Still in the Ronka Ruins, floating castle thing.
