I've personally had more fun with RPGs on the PSP than on the DS. I'd name em' but it sux typing on the PSP.
Hey, I'm having trouble deciding which JRPG to start playing, out of Chrono Cross and Xenogears, as I know that either one that I start will probably keep me going for a long time. Any suggestions either way?
I like to say I like JRPGs, but none of the new ones really interest me at all... here's my list (not including Zelda games) of favorites: Chrono Trigger Secret of Mana Seiken Densetsu 3 Secret of Evermore Earthbound Chrono Cross Golden Sun (1 and 2) Mother 3 Pokemon Red/Blue There's a few games I've yet to play that I'm interested in, the Star Ocean games, Bahamut Lagoon, the Xenosaga games, but we'll see how those go when I get around to them.
I just figured I'd resurrect this thread for one question: What's the best Shin Megami Tensei game to start playing the series on? I keep seeing a lot of it, but I've never actually played one. I really want to get into the series since it looks sick, but I just don't know which one to start with. I'd like to say that I enjoy playing RPG's on my PSP the most since you can put it into sleep mode often and can stop playing without having to save, which is a life saver most of the time. I also like some for either the PS1 or PS2 for some reason. I don't mind any system that I have, but I'd prefer either of those.
I just started playing Devil Survivor (after growing disappointed with Fire Emblem on the DS). So far it seems pretty accessible, and I personally like the tactical set up of the combat screens. So far I like it a lot. BTW, you can put a DS to sleep, too -- just shut the cover.
I'll check that out sometime. Thanks for the recommendation. I've never even seen gameplay of any SMT game, so I know absolutely nothing about them. And I'd agree that Fire Emblem DS was a bit disappointing, but I still enjoyed it overall.
I may get back to it, still. It wasn't a bad game, just a bit thin. Devil Survivor plays a bit like The World Ends With You, but with a combination of SRPG and standard RPG turn-based combat. It also feels more story-driven, though not necessarily linear. There are plenty of videos of gameplay in YouTube if you're curious.
Wow... the way you just described it sounds like the perfect game. I'm definitley going to have to pick this up soon. I need some good RPG's for my DS, since all I have is Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. How much do you think Devil Survivor would be for a used copy now? If I have extra money after picking up a few necessities, I'll get this game.
I paid $24 for it used -- though I got it at a small store (not GameStop). Should be be able to find if for about that much.
I'll check online and see if I can find it cheaper. I'm pretty strapped for cash, and I'm hoping that I'll have a little over $50 after trading in some games I wanted to, and I'm planning to spend about $48 on Peace Walker, GTAIII, and Front Mission 4.
Devil Survivor was a great recommendation, but it isn't like The World Ends With You in any single way (gameplay wise). If you are interested on that franchise, get it asap. Phenomenal game. And after you finish it (it will take you quite some time), get Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey, which is way more hardcore that Devil Survivor.
