Yes, because the basis of my argument for a revitalized AppleTV made it the second coming of WebTV Again, Eli, I wonder if, over your years alive, you didn't learn how to get to the basic understanding of an argument. But, then again, you are the guru who used WebTV, PS3's browser, and Wii's browser as prime examples of why using the 'net on an HDTV doesn't work.
I find it funny how a site contributor and administrator is seemingly going out of his way to needlessly flame someone who is simply taking a differing position than him. I truly do think you should let my critique of your little review go, Eli, along with the stance that my disagreeing with you or voicing my opinion that may run counter to yours is in any way somehow personally insulting. It's not healthy, and, quite frankly, is putting you in a bad light here.
Do you really think I care about people who critique the things we post on the front page? I'm not sure how much time you spend reading TouchArcade, but we get a great deal of comments from people either critiquing us or disagreeing with us on a daily basis. I'm just endlessly amused by how much effort you're devoting in to making sure everyone is aware of how much you think the iPad is going to fail, and how Apple's greatest blunder is not turning the Apple TV in to some kind of WebTV. It really reminds me of this: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=500
I dunno if any of that was aimed at me, but I'm just in it for the conversation. Fail or win, it's something to talk about... I'm not out to prove anything.
Well, you seem to as you follow me into damn near every topic I happen to post in with posts insulting me and/or my positions without actually making points to counter said positions. Again, Eli, from my earlier post: Now, how much clearer can my position on this be? I've posted that how many times now? I mean, jeez, man...basic reading comprehension. It's a skill. Use it. I'm sure you learned to over the years. Again, reading comprehension...please use that skill. I know you possess it. Anyone with any remote idea of what I've posted understands that your wrongheaded simplification is in no way related to what I think Apple should do with the AppleTV product line. Why, Eli...I had no idea you and strawman were so acquainted.
I'm in it for the same reasons. To Eli it seems to be serious bizness though. I mean...saying that it won't be as successful as some think is not the same as saying it won't be successful on some level. But Eli doesn't "get" that. He sees "Apple" and "...not successful..." in the same sentence and froths at the mouth or something.
I just find it amazing how you guys can bring the complains from most game threads to the multiple iPad threads. "I'll wait for a update" "I'll wait for a sale" have transformed into "I'll wait for the second gen" and "I'll wait for a price drop".
There's an ignore button. Don't wanna read my posts, hit ignore. Simple. BTW, I find it amusing that Albie and a few others have taken similar positions as me, and, in some cases more drastic positions, and yet me stating that iPad won't be as successful as other Apple products, and will be a niche product, IMHO, is taken as an assault on the very senses of the Apple-is-God cadre.
My teacher was going on today about how he thought the whole iPad idea was wonderful, talking mostly about how he could potentially get magazine subscriptions with it electronically in the future. also said the price was unbelieveable and that he'd easily go for a 64gb model. Do you guys think the iPad is cheap?
Well quite. I'm not entirely convinced it'll be successful at all, but that still doesn't mean I'm trying to insult those who support the product. Plus of course, I'm totally prepared to be proved wrong, in fact I'd be quite happy about it. If I find myself sitting here this time next year, using an iPad to talk rubbish on a forum then I'll be glad it turned out better than I'd hoped for.
Maybe it has something to do with your hilariously douchey and condescending writing style that reads like I'm being scolded by my mother?
I think that for all it does, the price is reasonable for those in the market for such a product. It's going to be a pretty good e-book reader due to size alone, and it will have capabilities that the standalone e-readers like Kindle lack: iTunes support for music, podcasts, shows, and movies as well as apps via the App Store. The Kindle DX model, with the larger display, is about $500: Kindle DX Now, it has 3G, so to compare it on that basis, you'd have to go to the $629 3G capable iPad, but still, that price difference is made up for by the fact that the iPad is still part of the iPod family line, and therefore does much more than Kindle can. Does it do e-books as well as Kindle ? I don't know. From what I've heard some people like Kindle due to the display being as close to actual books as possible, with not much of the eyestrain associated with looking at a typical display screen. That may be a factor in some people's decision making. That said, it still does a lot more than Kindle for not much higher a price.
I haven't condescended anyone here but Eli, and in response to his doing so to me (not very adult of me, I know). That said, I've not directly or even indirectly insulted anyone else here. Just stated my opinions on a product, so I don't really know the reason for your response.
iPad e-books will be more expensive than Kindle's according to... damn I forget his name, reliable source though. If you're big on e-books then you're gonna have to use the iPad to it's fullest to get the most for your money, otherwise you probably should have gone with Kindle.
