Well, Eli, of course, they're excited...it's marketing. Frankly, they have no choice but to develop for the iPad now. The current games in iTunes don't translate well on the bigger iPad screen. They come out all pixelated. Not that I completely disagree that iPad looks like neat device. However, I don't think everyone is drinking the Apple Kool-Aid on this one and rightfully so. It's still a glorified iPhone/Touch in many respects. I can envision the iPad becoming a must-have device by generation 2 or 3, but as is, it's lacking. I know tech heads are mostly in the same boat as me, but the financial markets are feeling the same with the iPad. The wow factor is just not there, and with a recession/recovery in play, Netbooks and the cheaper e-readers from Amazon and Sony will definitely appeal more to the broader audience. And, it's simply too limited of a device right now for the business environment. iWorks just won't cut it, and Apple opened itself up to criticism on that front because they touted how this will change business.
I have a Iphone 3GS, but I've always wanted a netbook. I will be buying this because I like how it looks and it has all my basic needs. I can browse the net, use the app store/iTunes, browse youtube, email etc. that's all I want. Now before you guys bust out with "netbooks are cheaper", I like apple products and this suites me, so I'll be getting a 64 Gig 3G day one.
The only thing that bothers me is if I want the 3G version I have to pay $30 for another data plan... I have 4 iPhones on my account right now, it's ridiculous... If you have an iPhone you should be able to link it with that data plan.
I think it's a special SIM card for the iPad. Not too sure, but I just read that somewhere. Can't remember exactly where.
Another thing that I forgot to put in my last post was that the fact that it's suppose to revolutionize the way we use the Internet and it doesn't have flash is inexcusable. I find it annoying that my iPhone doesn't have it but I live with it. But if I'm getting a device where one if the main uses for it is to browse the Internet, it either needs flash, or apple needs to convince a whole lot of website to start using a format that works with the iPad. I know what I'm saying is nothing new, but it bothers me nonetheless.
yeah. apparently you do. thats why im not getting the first version(if there will be a 2GiPad, which is quite possible). Playing tilt games in public will make you seem like an idiot...
i dont need laptop when i will buy these.. just think of it : you can watch HD movies (no dvd player needed),you can listen music ,radio or whatever , you have internet ,you can play games whit touch and keyboard i think, read books and so one. I will sell my laptop now.
It's like an iPod for old people. And I'm 20, so I guess I'm not getting one ... at least not as an iPod replacement.
In its present state, I can't find any justification to own this thing. Too big to be a pocket gaming/browsing tool, too limited software/hardware to work with it on stationary state. It's a waste of technology investment, imho. Apple could have made it awesome, if they allowed multitasking and dig their brain to find out real revolutionary user interfaces & displays. Come on, Apple, just change this bad OS. It's not made for your Pad, you know it.
No, totally impracticle to carry around with you unless you have a bag, in which case why not just take a notebook? And Apple have a nasty habit of taking bog standard features away (like 3g and wifi and storage space) and charging stupid ammounts for them. edit- Forgot to add, my notebook had 120gb storage at no extra cost, could play pc games, could play emulators could play divx movies, could play flash movies and games online, had a full proper keypad, was a tiny bit larger than the ipad but a fraction of the price. And a mobile internet usb modem was £40 and costs £15 a month (limited to 5gb) So it sh1ts all over the ipad in almost every respect.
I'm not going to get it, I want it to have vid call feature.. and I am actually more troubled by another thing, to get an ipod 64GB or 32Gb 3GS. sigh..
It's not HD, 64GB isn't enough for a decent music collection, there's no USB support for an external hard drive either and Safari will fail as soon as it reaches a site using Flash.
Most people saying it will have no use are overlooking the biggest difference between the iPad and the iPhone/iPod Touch. And that is: The giant (comparatively) screen. Apple already has 1000's of developers on its platform, and all of them are probably trying to think of the next killer app for the iPad. Just think, music creation apps will actually be usable (I have tried BeatMaker and Xewton, both nice but with a larger screen they become way better). I am not talking about scaling up, I am talking about new apps designed specifically for the device. It will take time, but I say 6 months or so after the release there will be a lot of useful apps for the iPad.
