I should reiterate what I said on the first page, I don't think wanting one of these makes someone a moron just doing so before seeing if that fancy 1GHz processor makes it's way into the iPhone this year. Remember, the iPhone is competing against products that contain a 1GHz Snapdragon so I would be shocked if we weren't in for a major upgrade on the pocketable versions.
100% Agreed. My $170 notebook can do so much more than this piece of crap... No GPS No Camera (with LED Flash) No Multitasking No OLED Screen An extremely disappointing 256 MB of RAM! No Additional Touch Gestures No Videocalling/conferencing/iChat No Handwriting Recognition or Support for a Stylus No Wireless Syncing or File Transfers No File Management or Freedom to download files (even documents) from online No Ability to run custom Apps not preapproved by Apple and sold via the App Store A Very Low Resolution Display with 25% fewer PPPs than the iPhone or iPod Touch No integrated TV antenna or Radio antenna (They even developed a HD DTV Tuner for use in cellphones to allow users to pick up OTA HDTV signals on the go! Why they didn't include this technology in this device I won't understand) No Video Out According to Apple's page on the product, the maximum resolution it is capable of playing MPEG4s at is 640x480 resolution at 30 fps. Not even HD! It features a 1 Ghz processor that significantly slower than just about every single notebook on the market today. No OTA Sync With Apple TV or Servers To Stream Video No Low Reflective Screen Mode for high contrast Ebook Reading that doesn't hurt your eyes Only 64 mbs of HDD space No Gamepad attachment for Gaming With Physical Buttons/Tactile Feedback No bluetooth, or ability to connect to a bluetooth mouse/keyboard No RFID/IR to use it as a remote, or to tag it to yourself No Replacable/Removable Batteries No Java or Flash support (no hulu.com) No ability to connect to an extrernal hdd, or even to pop in an SDCard
wow so this is quite literally an ipod touch with a bigger screen. piece of aluminum garbage (it's aluminum right?)
I think that the larger screen will make a huge difference to those of us who want to use it as an e-book reader. I've used Stanza, and while it is convenient to be able to carry around a whole library of books, the small screen size and constant page-flipping makes it tiring to use for more than an hour or so. I can only squint for so long! The same with watching videos. I understand your point about multitasking, but I guess I view the iPad as more of a recreational device--good for movies, games, & web-browsing--with a few "real" computer functions thrown in (iWork). Maybe that's the "niche" market Apple is addressing with the iPad. I do really like the data plan options; one of my main reservations about the tablet was that I do not want to be locked into an ironclad contract. I won't be first in line at the Apple store because I want to see how this plays out, but it's more of an option for me than simply buying a new Touch. I think there will be a big market for this--maybe not among TA members, but among the general public.
The thing about the lack of multitasking is that if any other company released such a product without that feature people would be raising hell over it. It's something people should expect and they should be upset that it's not there. It's not a late 90's Palm Pilot, there's simply no excuse. The fact that these devices need to be hacked just to add this feature is simply unacceptable in my eyes.
You, my friend, are made of win. Never willl buy the iPad. The NAME is stupid. It reminds me of a madTV parody.
As much as I want it. I think I may hold off until the 2G version as I did with my iPod Touch unless my tax returns tell me different. Plus I would be pissed if an iPod Touch 4G was announced soon after I got the iPad because thats what I am really looking forward to.
Well, it's not like you're going to be doing major processing on the thing... It's basically just a giant iPod Touch running the same OS. Why would they put more RAM in if it wasn't needed or even beneficial, and could keep production costs lower? A lot of your complaints have something to do with hardware that would only pertain to a device running an OS that is more powerful/more geared toward processing than that of the iPhone. Can't connect to an external HDD? Why would I want to do that with a tablet? It's not built with major computing in mind. It kinda seems to me like you were expecting some kind of touch-screen IBM Thinkpad wonder-computer out of this thing. Even so, I don't think I'll be getting one anytime soon. I was looking forward to it having more Mac features and apps. Once I can run Garageband, iMovie, etc. on the thing, I'll think about it.
Yeah if you want a pocket device then buy an Iphone or Ipod and if you want something bigger that does more, then buy a laptop. This hardware is just a bigger Ipod and so is completely useless other than making retarded Apple fanbois happy.
