Does every thing need to be a groundbreaking reinvention of the wheel? I don't think it does. Apple is making a product for every kind of consumer. Need a computer? Get an iMac. Need a portable computer? Get a MacBook. Need something even more portable for email, games, and music? Get an iPod. Is the iPod screen not big enough for you, and you'd like something bigger for books, newspapers, movies, TV, etc? Get an iPad.
I'd get this if either of these two things were happening: 1. If it had multitasking, wide screen for movies, and a front camera for video conferencing (although the front camera is not necessary) or 2. I wasn't about to graduate from college. This thing would be great to take to classes and take my notes on it (assuming the virtual keyboard is up to the task) and if textbooks become available on it even better. Plus if Keynote works with the keynote on Macs then it would be great for presentations. But because neither of those are the case, I'm not sure. It would be great if it outputted to HD so I could have one device for my movies and then be able to connect it to the TV and watch them in HD, but even then the highest capacity is 64gb. I was expecting 128gb at the very least.
I'm disappointed with it and won't be getting it. I'm not alone I'm certain... We all have something about it that we're diappointed about. Pick a reason (or multiple reasons) from the below list, or state your own... No GPS No Camera (with LED Flash) No Multitasking No OLED Screen An extremely disappointing 256 MB of RAM! No Additional Touch Gestures No Videocalling/conferencing/iChat No Handwriting Recognition or Support for a Stylus No Wireless Syncing or File Transfers No File Management or Freedom to download files (even documents) from online No Ability to run custom Apps not preapproved by Apple and sold via the App Store A Very Low Resolution Display with 25% fewer PPPs than the iPhone or iPod Touch No integrated TV antenna or Radio antenna (They even developed a HD DTV Tuner for use in cellphones to allow users to pick up OTA HDTV signals on the go! Why they didn't include this technology in this device I won't understand) No Video Out According to Apple's page on the product, the maximum resolution it is capable of playing MPEG4s at is 640x480 resolution at 30 fps. Not even HD! It features a 1 Ghz processor that significantly slower than just about every single notebook on the market today. No OTA Sync With Apple TV or Servers To Stream Video No Low Reflective Screen Mode for high contrast Ebook Reading that doesn't hurt your eyes Only 64 mbs of HDD space No Gamepad attachment for Gaming With Physical Buttons/Tactile Feedback No bluetooth, or ability to connect to a bluetooth mouse/keyboard No RFID/IR to use it as a remote, or to tag it to yourself No Replacable/Removable Batteries No Java or Flash support (no hulu.com) No ability to connect to an extrernal hdd, or even to pop in an SDCard
Haha, agree with this statement. Think of all the customization you can do! But the battery will prob only last an hour if enough is added.
It's not aimed at us, it's aimed at everyone. Since you guys refuse to believe that techies make up a small percent of the world's population, I'm afraid you're going to disagree with me when I say that I think it's going to be a massive success. Why would your average Joe buy a laptop over this? It has everything that he wants, and it's far easier to use than a PC.But then again everything is easier to use than a PC...I've got a feeling that it's going to cannibalize laptop sales. College students and teens are going to jump on this. And no one can knock the price, which really eradicates the "But Macs are sooo expensive I'll just a crappy Dell" argument for a lot people. It's interesting to see Apple going off in this mobile market direction. Whatever way you spin it, mobile computing is the future. And if Apple continue to dominate these markets you can bet your bottom that they'll be what Microsoft is now. It's all about the content. And
BTW, it has SD and while I didn't see it listed anywhere I would be shocked if it doesn't have bluetooth.
I think I`m going to hold off until next year. May be if the OS 4.0 got a huge upgrade with multi tasking this june. But definitely not before that.
It's running iPhone OS 3.2 so yeah I would say this thing has a 110% chance of being jailbroken shortly after release, though really most of the basic jailbreak features should have been included without having to do so.
Keynote does work with Keynote on Mac. The device can also connect to projectors, according to Steve Jobs during the Keynote. It can save as an iWork '09 or Office file. (And open them.)
Do you know how ridiculous it would look trying to use a big tablet computer to take a picture? Lol. An OLED screen would have been nice. The Playstation 3 has the same amount of ram.
I think the lack of a camera would be the dealbreaker for me. I'd think about taking this on a trip. It would probably be a good computer for light work while sitting in coach, but then there's no ichat ability for connecting with the family, so that would mean bringing along the laptop. I'm also a longtime tablet user, and to me the one thing that Microsoft did right was One Note, and one a tablet it's great. You sit there and write on it as if you're using a pad, and you can either use the handwriting recognition or just save as a note. There's no equivalent, of course, with the ipad. Too bad. It's a great way to make use of any tablet.
So what your telling me, is that my run-down, beaten, neglected, slow, un-responsive computer has the same ram as PS3 and iPad?
I might get one next year when they sort out the bugs (come on, everything when it comes out has bugs) and add some more cool things.
I will not, but only because I'm satisfied with my newly purchased iTouch.... And broke from buying it...
