RE Safari crashing: I did try a reboot by powering down with the red slider and turning my iPod back on. Same issues, so it wasn't a memory thing as far as I can tell. I'll try a restore when I have time. p.s.: How do you turn off spellcheck? And also, is there a way to change the automatic corrections (besides totally disabling it)? I live in Berea, KY, and every time I type "Berea" it turns it into "Berra", which is really irritating.
Well, however I tried (DFU and reinstalled iTunes) the bar still stops at like 6 ticks, then doesn't move anymore, or at least for 3 hours (didn't keep going beyond that) Maybe I should try to restore on another computer?
Uh, no....The lock is accessed through the multitasking bar. Obviously there isn't one on the 2g touch, so my question is, did they leave that feature out, or include an alternate way of enabling it. You don't need to have multitasking capabilities to lock your orientation. (Unless Apple made it that way).
when i click update....then it is backing up...and after 3 hours and its not even half way is their a faster way??
So I've gone through the process and everything, and up comes a screen telling me to connect my iPhone to iTunes. I do that, but it says that there is no SIM card in my iPhone, when there clearly is. Any help why it can't detect my SIM card?
Well good news, I got my iPod to restore to factory settings. I did this by creating a new account on Windows, then restoring my iPod there. Worked fine and now I have iOS4 But when going back to my main account, and restoring my orginal stuff, I got an error and some of my apps weren't put onto the iPod. Right now I'm syncing it again hoping it will fix itself, but otherwise, I'll figure it out later. I'm just really happy I can at least listen to music and play SOME apps now.
how do i restore a jailbroken itouch because i gotta do that before i restore. do i have to put it in recovery mode or something?
WOW this shit refuses to backup when I try to update. I synced one last time before trying the update, and the backup worked without any problems. But the mandatory backup while updating stays at a sliver of green of the progress bar for hours, and I give up and restart it.
i had the same problem.. I finally got it to install.. and it seems to be running faster on my ipod gen 2.. than what 3x os did. i dig the folders. my sister has a gen 3 so iv been playing with multi tasking and stuff.. as she brought it over for me to update the os. im not missing much at this point. im happy with folders for now. i think what i will miss the most not having a gen 3 is being able to lock the screen.. that is a nice touch while laying down. chris.
So did it start moving fast (the progress bar) on its own right from the beginning, or was it stuck at a sliver for a while before finishing?
should i upgrade? i have ipod touch 3rd gen 8gb .. do i need to upgrade? what will happen to the apps i installed upon installing the iOS 4? do i have to install them again? thanks!
Yes you should upgrade. Nothing will happen to your apps, they will be resynced onto your device. [And no, you won't lose your progress/game saves, that's what the backup is for]
You shouldn't have to install them again if the upgrade goes off without any problems. If you do encounter problems and nothing else seems to work it may be necessary to do a restore, but as long as you did a backup you should still be able to get all of your apps and music back during the restore process. Odd that it should stall during the backup portion of the uprgade process when a manual upgrade went off just fine. But since you did do a backup you should be able to do a restore without any problems -- and if the restore stalls out there's always DFU mode and/or reinstalling iTunes as detailed in my OP. You do have to do a restore if you are jailbroken. The easiest and most painless method (that is, the one with the least potential problems) is using DFU mode. When I used to jailbreak (pre-OS 3 days) I always had to use DFU mode as nothing else would work. This is on Windows though; if you have a Mac you might not have as many issues.
Having an issue, it was installing and now I'm at the step I have to plug it back in. When I do that that I just get an Itunes error -9812. I tried all the solutions listed and even the itunes FAQ answer which was to reboot the modem and router. Any suggestions?
I actually didn't unplug it the first time. The ipod just showed me a screen with the wire and the itunes logo. After several attempts, I just restarted everything.
Lol same here. I had like nine and now I have one, and I can put lots more apps on the dock with folders.
So iTunes is not even recognizing that you have a device plugged in? If this is the case, you may have to reinstall iTunes and the mobile driver. (See first post)
