The iOS 4 Upgrade Help Thread

Discussion in 'Off-Topic Lounge' started by Mindfield, Jun 21, 2010.

  1. No, there's no way to brick an iPod or iPhone (using legitimate methods anyway). DFU mode should work under any circumstance. Have you gone over the checklist in the first post of this thread to make sure everything is connected and prepped properly?

Yeah, I am able to get to DFU mode and my itunes asks me to restore but when I do it comes up with an error message and doesn't restore. Help?

  3. Try reinstalling iTunes. If it won't restore in DFU mode, and you're absolutely positive you're in DFU mode (screen is blank, right? No Connect to iTunes icon?), then the only thing left that I can think of is pooched Apple Mobile Device drivers.

The exact same thing happened to me. You should try to unplug it from the computer and hold the power button and home button at the same time again, it should boot up the ipod. Then try to rejailbreak it. As for restoring your files again, I'm stuck there. I originally jailbroke my 2nd gen Ipod touch with redsnow and was able to keep my original files intact, but my ipod had issues afterward. So I did the jailbreak again and tried to do a restore with the backup, but it also keeps on giving me the error message you're probably getting. I gave up eventually trying to get my backfile to restore onto my ipod.

Something like that happened to me, but it wouldn't go to DFU mode, what I did instead was return it to Apple

Sorry if I missed any comments regarding this, but is anyone noticing that iOS4 is much slower than 3.x? My 3G phone is a SLUG now. Opening SMS, games, everything.

    Edit:
Nevermind, I see this is a common problem.

Uh, yes... The orientation lock is only accessed through multitasking. There's no alternate way to get it on the iPhone. You need to have multitasking capabilities to get to the lock.

So you still answered your own question

I've noticed that since I've upgraded my 3G S to iOS 4, it's been much slower than usual. It even froze up today and in order to get it to work I had to reset it manually (lock and home button). Upon restarting, it paused on the black and white Apple logo for a good few minutes before displaying my home screen. Safari isn't loading pages as sufficiently and my apps aren't loading quite as fast as they used to, even with a WiFi connection...
    Anyone else having similar issues?

Ever since I upgraded Gt racing and super ko boxing have run like crap. I want my good old 3.1.2 back, I can't use the main features from this anyway.

Correct me if someone has already asked this, but how do you get GameCenter on the iPhone 3G? Or os it not available yet?

  12. It's not available 'til the fall.

I've seen that out of my iOS 4 compatible apps. Maybe it's just like the difference between the 3G and 3G S now. They'll probably run better on an actual iPhone 4. You CAN get your old apps back (the un-updated versions) but I forgot how you do it... You have to go in and delete the upgraded file from the backup and retrieve the older version from an older backup and replace it in the newest one. Don't take my word on that though... I'm not sure.

So i haven't updated yet. I've been hearing bad things of iOS 4, so my question is:

Is it still worth the download?

  16. I've had no trouble with it; in fact, I'm loving it. There are those who have had problems upgrading, an issue that appears to be exacerbated if you're jailbroken, but all else being equal, yes, it's absolutely worth it.

I'm pretty sure they had an upgrade for iOS 4 compatibility. Did you update your apps?
