I was to see Jesus built into the OS. Rofl. I dunno, people complain about it and shit but I would really like to see widgets. I know they aren't necessary at all, but still doesn't mean they wouldn't be fun to have...
1) Larger folders. I'd settle for 16 apps even! 2) Some sort of way to keep app data saved when the app is off the device 3) Better notification system
I doubt it will support my 3rd gen so I don't really care what it supports even if it does I don't think I'll bother updating this time. Apples getting nearly as bad as Sony with constant Firmware updates that I see no differences between. Airplay was nice I guess but as far as cloud features etc go I think it's all nonsense and couldn't care less.
Standard cloud storage of app data (if the user gives it the OK). So I can move from my iPhone to my iPad 2 back and continue where I left off each time, without such a feature being dependent on devs rolling their own. System wide support for apps like TextExpander, so apps don't specifically have to support a certain such tool. Big expansion on Game Center with messaging, improved UI, support for unlimited leaderboards (or at least a very large number), etc. Automatic cloud syncing of achievements and high scores between devices. Easy way to switch between profiles, optionally without having to enter the password, and with game data also matched up with the profiles. Main thing is make it easy to switch between profiles and with game/app data associated with profiles.
Better notifications fo shoo. I want to see those pull down notification bars on the top of the iphone at the status screen (like android) even when in lock screen.
Yeah, better notifications too, but I think that should include the option to have notifications like they are now. Ideally you could select what type of notification for a given application and feature within that application. So when I need to go see my boss due to a calendar alert, I want that alert to pop up and stop everything else so I don't miss. In contrast, if the notification is that it's my turn in Carcassonne, for example, I want that to be unobtrusive.
How about push notifications and notifications. The former shows up only in a drop down from the status bar with a number in the bar to show how many new ones are there. Push notifications will do the same message pop up and if there are multiple they will all show at once in a respectively expanding blue bubble on the screen. Question for the more tech savvy. Why do some games crash on newer ios, and why do devs have to update to support it (not talking about extra functionality, but just to support it). I would think, since each ios simply builds of the other, that a game that runs fine on all previous ios should in theory run fine on all future ones.
How about custom text alert sounds? It would be pretty pathetic if such a simple feature is still neglected after 5 years.
Maybe a dashboard-esque page somewhere on the home screen containing weather, calendar, calculator, etc widgets? Perhaps even an SDK for devs to create their own widgets. Other than that and notifications, I can't think of any other "major" changes.
Actual customizable icon skins instead of those fake wallpapers. I like theming and all, but sometimes it's difficult to get every icon for a theme. Skins would go nicely with icons that don't mess with the shape. Oh yeah. Maybe theming?
