Can we get back to talking about Greedy Cave gameplay?

Question for the veterans, to make sure I'm doing it right. Collecting whites/blues in the dungeon is essentially just trash loot - if you can make it to a decade-floor to sell it then great, but otherwise its garbage. The enhancement loots are also essentially trash if you've already put an optimal enchant on each of your core pieces. Goldens you can take with you but they are only useful for expensive upgrade attempts.

Am I getting that all right?

At least that's the way I've been playing.

Don't like how loot only changes every ten levels, it just becomes a major grind each ten levels and you basically start from square 1. a shame, would be nice if higher teir drops had a m chance to drop on easier floors but rarely. Once U have gold items from a decade floor there's nothing left to do but try killing the boss

Now I can get back to focusing on getting to depth 100 without spending money on any gems :D

Not because I mind throwing a few more bucks at the developer, but because I'm actually really curious if it's even possible.

Said it should be a few pages back, but maybe I have to eat my words.

I second this sentiment. I would also say that keeping lower colored equipment could be worth hanging on to for awhile if it has a particular effect i.e., fire attack +, for use against the respective enemy if you don't have it on any of your gold equipment.

If you haven't done so, last night I played again from level one and by the time I got to the first boss I had accumulated about 40 health potions. It's a little bit of a grind but not much as you can pretty much one hit kill everything and just run through the whole thing in no time. I did notice that after beating the first boss the return to town scrolls stopped spawning. So for now I'm "stuck" in the dungeon. Hope I can get one before I die, although I'm not even close to dying. I'm on level 17.

I think I beat the first boss with only about 10 health potions. But yeah the escape scrolls become harder to find especially after level 21. Currently stuck in the dungeon looking for one too.

I think I used about as many potions as you so I still have quite a few left. Hopefully they will carry me until an escape scroll appears. Replaying from level one I haven't found any. It seems like beating that first boss makes the game take of the kid gloves and really start pounding on you. Those scrolls are so integral to progressing in the game because you can't upgrade your equipment inside the dungeon. Without upgrading your equipment you won't stand a chance.

Oh no. I actually died. I usually use an escape scroll as soon as I can. But this time around I died and didn't spend crystals to revive.

So I lost all my progress? All items / found that run? How exactly does that work. Do you loose experience as well?

Just as an FYI and I'm not trying to encourage IAPs, but if you buy the $.99 IAP, I think it's well worth it.

You end up getting a total of 700 gems (300 + 300 first time bonus + 100 in an achievement) plus you get a bunch of gold equipment (not great stuff but decent for newbies), plus 3 escape scrolls, 10 vision scrolls, a few bigger health and mana potions and maybe another thing or two that I'm forgetting.

I did it to support the dev but it's a pretty useful purchase for just another $.99.

Of course, I have no idea how much more I'll feel the need for IAPs as I get further. Even if I gave up, the hours that I've spent and worth well more than the $2 bucks I've invested so far.

Just those couple of 1000 point health potions would have gotten me past the first boss but I stupidly, accidentally hit escape when I had him down to like 20 HP. :(

When I died it was like that run never happened. I went back to the stats and equips I had from the last time I was able to use an escape scroll.

Wahts the point of this game when you loose nearly all of the found loot? How can you then get the loot?

Also when I dont find a Town scroll how can I leave the dungeon? Impossible? So I have to die to go back to the town?

    I dont understand the system
    behind this game.

You need to use the gold statues to convert items you want to be saved for the next run. Honestly, especially on the early levels, I always found escape scrolls. I think you can also buy them with crystals that you earn with achievements in the game.

I guess I don't get it either- I go in the dungeon-walk around collecting treasure and fighting-then I eventually die. Is there a way to leave the dungeon before I die? I have been in the dungeon several times-seems like all I can do is keep going until I die. Are there any directions or manual to explain things? What is that table? I put a piece of equipment in the box, then fill the other boxes with stuff I picked up, hit the button and get "failed" every time.
Sorry, have never played a game like this, so I could use a few tips-I go in dungeon, fight till I die, then start over again from scratch ( seems like)-what about the statue? I put a piece of equipment in it-then never see that equipment again.

If you die, you'll lose your stuff regardless. But if you get back to town, those items that were turned to gold at statues are kept permanently.

The enchantment table you are referring to requires some trial and error but I've had a good many successes.

As for getting out of the dungeon, you need escape scrolls which you can find while playing. They are random though and others make it sound like they've had trouble finding them at times. You can buy them in town, however. You just need to get some gems from achievements.

It's not an easy game but it's actually more forgiving than most roguelikes in terms of difficulty and even the ability to save loot when converted to gold. Many games in this genre, you just play until you die and never keep loot.

One thing I'd recommend, especially to newcomers, is to choose healing as the first skill you open up.

The game doesn't hold your hand but when you try something for the first time, it does give you tutorial boxes.

It's almost like a perma death rogue like UNLESS you find that escape scroll (gotta check pots, bones and chests) and be sure to use it before you die if you do escape all equipment that was golden or converted to gold via a statue will be yours to keep. The tables are for buffs and if it shows the % of chance of that buff in the little bar but yea it does fail a lot not really worth the mana unless you have pots...

Anyone know if gold statues appear on the map when you use a vision scroll? I've gotten some really kick ass equipment but now am having trouble finding statues. And I'm trying to get to a few before heading back to town (and before getting killed, of course).

So I originally deleted the art style thread because it got really nasty, but APPARENTLY this discussion continues to live on lol so I've reopened it and deleted the guy who left the really nasty comment. So if you must bring up the Don't Starve comparisons, go nuts right here!:
