Hey, Virtualboyfreak, I've been looking at Enchanted Caves 2 as well. The only thing holding me back is the JRPG art style, not my favorite. I have a few questions for you. How does enchanted caves 2's progression work? Does it have save points where you get to keep your stuff, like the 10th level save points and escape scrolls in Greedy cave, or are you expected to make it through in one try?
Hi Sobriquet, the differences between both games are: - Gfx style. - Premium IAP (Greedy) vs no IAP (Enchanted). - Device position while playing (vertical vs horizontal). The rest is nearly exactly the same: you keep gold objects, every 10 levels you have a checkpoint and shop, you use gold wings to get out of the cave, etc. One thing I like a lot from Enchanted is the fact that you learn how to turn normal objects to gold ones through the skill tree. There's no need to find a special statue to turn them to gold, you just use MP's. I'm playing Enchanted atm, but I'm keeping Greedy on my device too. I also prefer Greedy's gfx, but all in all Enchanted is a full premium experience, while Greedy isn't.
Thanks for the info. Based on this I'm downloading Enchanted Caves 2 now. I think I can get used to the art style.
Another difference I just found is that the first boss was at level 25, so there might just be 4 bosses instead of 5, I don't know. In any case, I know there's a NG+ after you beat the original.
Sorry, what is NG+? This is exactly how I'm felling after playing EC2. The art style is even starting to grow on me. In the cave it doesn't even look all that JRPG like at all. I don't regret the time I've spent with Greedy Cave, but I'm starting to feel like it was just a primer for Enchanted Caves 2. Greedy Cave is a good game, but I'm already getting more satisfaction out of EC2 and I've only put in about an hour so far. Thanks for helping to push me off that ledge. Edit: Also, that skill tree is awesome.
Nice to be of help I've also got more satisfaction out of EC2. NG+ is "New Game +", which is more or less the nightmare mode of GC2. The advantage of NG+ is that you can play over and over a NG+.
What is the point of the Tavern in town? I can tap on the door, but nothing happens. Is it supposed to do something? What are the little cracks in the floor, all over the dungeon, with black bubbles coming out of them? When I step on them, the bubbles disappear, but there seem to be no other effects.
Add me to the pile of people switching over to Enchanted Cave 2 from this due to the obviousness of how integral crystals are becoming. Hearing the costs for revives and equipment upgrades in this thread really clenched it for me. What an aptly named game - if you don't feed the greedy little bugger money then you'll feed it you time.
Gems aren't integral at all to the goals of the game. The difficulty curve has stayed fairly level for me through level 60 of nightmare...and I don't really spend my crystals.
Sorry for the late reply unfortunately the reboot doesn't work on this don't know why? But already solve it by reinstalling the game and downloading my save from icloud. Thanks btw.
If you want to upgrade your equipment to max stats you are forced to spend crystals. Up to level 3 it's with gold, but from there onwards it's with crystals. Sure, you can finish the game without this and only getting better gear as you progress in the cave, but I like to be able to do everything in the game without thinking "am I doing this with crystals or gold?". If you're a 100% completionist (all the achievements, etc.), this game is not for you unless you want to spend a lot of real money. In other words, you can progress and finish the game without purchasing crystals, but to do everything you can do in the game, you need a lot of crystals.
Why would you need to spend money on crystals? Doing the quests give you 15-60 crystals per run. The only real need for crystals is upgrading but thats usually reserved for endgame stuff coz honestly why upgrade something you are gonna replace later on anyway. I myself wont be upgrading anything past +3 until I hit stage 90+ in nightmare. As for that completionist thing, most of the achievements can only be earned by a LOOOT of playing and the only ones that need crystals are the max upgrade ones which you most likely finish first using only free crystals way before you can finish the other achievements(theres one for finding 25k gold equip xD). If you are spending too much crystals on revives you are probably doing something wrong.
I figured out that the Tavern in town is some kind of chat room (but not in English). It only works if you're online, which is why I was confused. But I'm still wondering what the little black bubbles that come out of cracks in the dungeon floor are. Maybe they are supposed to be bugs crawling? Do they have any game effect when I step on them?
The only thing I can tell you about the cracks in the floor is that some of them are traps that get you with spikes if you walk over them.
Yes, there are at least 3 types of cracks in the floor. One has black spots coming out of it (bugs? bubbles?). These disappear when you walk over them, but there is no other effect. There are two other graphics, one of which has no effect when you walk on it and the other of which has spikes that come out of it. They are clearly distinguishable. BTW, the mimics are pretty easy to recognize, but another way is that if you try to open them remotely using the skill that lets you do that, it isn't even an option. You can get this information from afar without spending any mana.
Assuming no failures, how many gems does it take to level up 1 slot to max? I think with quick math, I was expecting 14k--15k gems by end game.
I don't know, because it also depends on the % of success. I guess the higher the level of the object to be upgraded, the more difficult it is to successfully upgrade. Using crystals doesn't grant a 100% upgrade success. What I know is that I'm a slow player, I always begin on stage 1 and have reached around stage 50, I bought the $10 IAP (3400x2 crystals) and spent 5000 crystals in upgrading all the inventory slots and one slot of the village chest, was left with 2800 crystals and I still haven't reached 3000 crystals. I only died once against the worm (overconfidence) and spent 300 crystals in reviving because of all the items I had which I didn't want to lose. This leaves me with earning around 1500 crystals since I began playing. And I've spent several hours playing. Maybe others have had more luck with the daily wheel prize, but I've never got any crystals there. @roy2x, I still think this is a copycat of The Enchanted Cave 2, even though there are some things from this one which I prefer, which are mainly the gfx style and playing with the device vertical instead of horizontal. This has left me with both games on my device, and sometimes I play with one and other times with the other, even though the experience is similar. If you search for this game on Metacritic, there is one user review which says something like "if the devs rethought the inclusion of IAP and polish a few things, we'd have a winner here". My opinion is that this premium experience exists and it is The Enchanted Cave 2, and the "preemium" experience is The Greedy Cave. The options are there for everyone to choose.
I think the point is that you could get more crystals faster if you optimized for that. If your quests are to kill creatures on level 21-30, then starting on level 1 slows your rate of getting crystals a lot, and continuing after completing your quests also slows your rate of getting crystals a lot. So you might tailor your runs to which objective you're trying to achieve.
I'm really liking the Enchanted Cave 2, but can't help but wish this game was premium like it is. I still really like the style and design of this one. And there are some differences, like being able to choose what piece of equipment you make gold at the statues vs. just finding gold items in EC2. I also actually like the fact that GC is more challenging. But at the same time, it just still seems too IAP driven with the crystals. Sure it can be done without IAPs. It's frustrating though. The grinding becomes more of a slog and much slower going than in EC2 (part of that is seeing more of the map and the auto move to the stairs button in the latter). Rebalance to keep a decent challenge while eliminating the need for a second currency and I'd pay good money for this.
