Nothing muddled or confusing about it. It's a roguelike so if you die then, yes, you will lose everything. Doesn't matter if you hit a checkpoint. If you die, it's like that run never happened. That's what all games in this genre have in common. The biggest difference is this game has escape scrolls. The object is to try to get as much experience and loot (only things that have been turned to gold at a statue) and "escape" the dungeon with a scroll BEFORE you die. That makes this game a bit easier than only permadeath in other roguelikes. If you don't like these "rules", then you shouldn't play any roguelike game.
Just to make a small clarification about crystal purchases. When you make a FIRST purchase it gives you double the stated gems plus DOUBLE the bonus gems. I bought the $2.99 bundle ($4.49AUD ouch!) and I got a total of 1900 gems. Just thought I would mention it as the description about getting double bonus gems was not 100% clear to me before I purchased. Oh, btw you get 100gems as an achievement reward as well.
Made it to nightmare yesterday. Initially, I envisioned perfecting some gear as me endgame. I'm not so sure now. I think I might just be done after I beat nameless in nightmare.
Don't you use iCloud backups? You can load the latest one you have to your device. At least you don't lose everything...
Yeah, I really wish I had opted to make my first purchase the $2.99 one instead of a $.99 one. Game is well worth $4 total but that's a ton more gems than I would get now. Would have given me some nice padding for the rest of the game.
I'm also tempted to buy some gems. I'm having a blast with the game. Never thought I'd be so hooked. The game is well worth $5.
This is what I wrote a few pages back that explains the basic mechanics of the game. Obviously a lot more to it, but this especially applies to early-mid game.
In the end I bought the $10 IAP and got 7,400 crystals. I used them to upgrade my inventory to maximum and the chest once. If you enter the crystal IAP section and click on the label you get equipment and scrolls too. I'm not too keen on this kind of IAP, but I've played this game a lot lately and it was worth it for me. Just like a cinema entrance, but already played for more than 3h, and still didn't get to level 30 yet. I've found secret rooms though
While I have a dislike for iaps (I so prefer to buy a game at a premium cost and no iaps) I also felt the dev deserved some more money as this is a game I am playing a lot of. I am so far happy with my purchase (a total of about 6 aussie dollars) and for whatever reason, this game has been the one to draw me away from Crashlands more than I expected.
If you guys are having problems with gear try putting 10 pts into luck and get the skill that shows you which chest has the most valuable loot. The luck has improved my chances a lot with finding yellow gear and the skill helps narrow down the which chests i open to save time.
Me too! Crashlands is waiting for me, but this one got me away from it too much time. I'll have to swap. Odd days Greedy Cave, even days Crashlands
Would be cool if the dev would put the IAPs on sale like giving you the same bonus as a first time purchase for a limited time. Really, really regret not getting a bigger IAP the first time around...and really, really love the game. Also wish we could get the dev here to bounce some ideas off of him. Not sure if they speak English.
This is the message I get in the crystal purchase screen. I guess it's the same for everyone, so after the initial purchase of x2, you seem to be able to get things from a chest in the village. I'm currently on a run, so can't check it in the village. Unlocking all the inventory slots of the character is a must to avoid inventory management. Now I get from shop to shop without touching the inventory, and there I can sell everything for gold. It's very useful.
I'm assuming you need to get to the end to unlock Nightmare. Just proves that the game can be beaten without iAP. There's many posts in here that hint against this. Turns out that there's enough gems in the game to unlock what you need to beat it, and you won't need to grind for months on end either.
I can't speak for beating nightmare yet. So, who knows for certain? I suspect it won't require a whole lot of investment, though. I bought a 3rd page in my inventory and ill-advisedly used 300 gems to revive. Otherwise, I haven't spent any of my gems. I think I have nearly 2500; I don't even know. I'm waiting until endgame to spend them if I can help it.
I'm getting tired of this BS. Find scroll, get nothing. Find scroll, get nothing. Find scroll, get nothing. Find 3 awesome items, no scroll, die. Find scroll in first pot of next run, get nothing. -_____-
Are you checking 100% of each level, specially the first ones? In every run I do I find a scroll in the first 5 levels, but I check everywhere and explore the full map before going down a level.
