Yeah it's nice, but imagine the following. 1. Before fight summon pet if you haven't already. 2. Before fight enable Armor of Air. 3. Send pet to attack/distract. 4. Approach and hit enemy with Dazzle. And begin hitting the parry button to deflect physical attacks. 5. Hit enemy with Shockwave (and stun as well). 6. Hit enemy with Fire Blast 4. 7. Hit enemy with Fire Blast 3. 8. Repeat from 5 until enemy is dead and re-enable Dazzle as needed. This works really well (and does a lot of damage) for a glass canon build. But costs a lot in energy expenditure. Using the Fist of Ice and Ice Shield (and Ice Bolt) are probably more useful for a combat Mage. Remember also that the Mage is the only class that never can complete all the skill trees. Mages will have to prioritize what they want to develop. I believe there was someone who earlier posted they where developing a combat Mage. Any tips or tricks in developing one?
How do you send the pet out to attack? I always have mine active, but he just hangs back until something charges me. I only put 1 point into ice fist, now that I have more energy reserves I've switched to shockwave. Sounds like you can put multiple versions of a spell on your hot bar. That makes a great case for going all in on fireblast.
All you do is come into range of the enemy (when your attack and defend buttons become visible) and when you tap them the pet goes toward them. If you have multiple enemies you'll see that one has an icon surrounding their feet and you can tap at the feet area to change focus to alternate enemy. However there are two issues. 1) Sometimes the pet will get stuck behind you, so you'll need to move to the side and press the button again. 2) Sometimes (it's really noticeable in the spider lair) the pet will just go off on its own no matter what you do. When that happens I just give up and move on my own until I'm out of the area where there is a problem (when I'm in the outer lair - not a problem when reaching the spider queen area) and re-summon. Here is an example of my current action bar, with my potions and summoning on the second half (running on iPhone so it doesn't show all of it like on the iPad):
I'm fed up with this Finnius Goldring. He wants me to find three sapphires, but I only have one. The trouble is, I'm worried I might have sold some sapphires and/or other gems before I even met him. Hadn't realised they might serve a purpose. Does that mean I won't be able to complete his quests?
A little harvesting is needed. Go to this location multiple times and you'll find the stones you're looking for. The reason to repeat is due to the drops being random. You'll need both 3 sapphires and 3 amethysts to complete both of his quests. There will be two chests you'll need to open each time you re-enter. Good luck.
Thank you so much! I had no idea the chests respawned. I thought once a chest was opened, that was it. Right, back to the gnome lair. Really overpowered for them now...
It depends on the chest. Like monsters, some respawn and others don't. The place I told you about fortunately does.
To Shaun, I love that you may give a small, silly item from Japan to a random member of this playalong, but I'd like to nominate Abbad0n, if I may. That is one helpful player, and the enthusiasm has really transmitted to the rest of us!
Thanks for the accolades. When this game first came out I was really enthusiastic about it. Now, having the excuse to play again is very enjoyable. Hopefully iOS 11 doesn't break it completely and I can experience it in another 2 years. Well, one can dream.
Well, I made it through the Temple and finished up the Guild quests. I just have the main quest line now. Although I'm sure I've missed some side quests. I'll probably walk through Callaheim again and talk to everyone before I continue.
As I mentioned, I went the IAP route just to boost my strength by 10 in order to save skill points for my spell casting side of things. However, I believe this was unnecessary after receiving a good staff. (Finding a 30 power staff in Lake Craythorn helped a lot). Developer definitely deserved the donation. About Intelligence... I don't put every point into intelligence and find I have more than enough per encounter. Sure, I lacked spell energy for the first 10 levels or so but after that I only put points into intelligence as a default if no other attribute is lacking. Also I've only ever put 2 points into Spirit (and have another plus 2 spirit on my cape) and that's been fine as well. I do dip points into strength, endurance and intelligence on a 1 for one basis at this point (I am level 27 now). But regarding strategy, I'll just mention tough encounters. For those, I Air Armor and summon pet before the encounter so my Energy can refill. I maxed Air Armor to get to shockwave so air armor becomes very expensive. Once my energy is back up I head into the fray and use shockwave first. It can be resisted at first on higher level mobs so beware of that. After that I block, and alternate fire blast with my staff until shockwave is back up. So I guess my biggest tip is that Shockwave does most of the work. It's so important to stun with this build, especially against mobs that heal. Even at level 27, shockwave is my heaviest hitter. Oh, yes I also use Dazzle, but I didn't get dazzle until after shockwave.
So I can't get my picture to post., but anyhoo... life as a lv22ish elf rogue, pretty much a combat build so far, only one pt in poisons, and max my parry. Using duel weld still using Kargaths sword and a speed rapier secondary sword. It's very fun stealing from chests., when I can. The vampires was my first robbery. I sure knew he would smell my blood and my cover would be blown!.,, the spirits later would have NO thing to do with allowing me to sneak about. Currently I'm killing scoundrels, and avoiding the giants in the desert and adding a lv40 dragon to my kill list after that vampire. This game really is great, a little antiquated in the save, selling, and blocky graphics,... but it's better than almost anything I've played on iOS and certainly nice to be able to play it while I watch Hulu/Netflix/redbox. I do want to play a mage, but so does pally and ranger look interesting. Mostly cause pets, I do love. And thanks for the advice on getting my poisons!!! Btw,?? Is the sequel to this any good??? Cause it doesn't appear to be. Just better graphics and no classes. At first glance
Well that was certainly a long time to harvest Vampire drops. Got plenty of Spirit+4 runes, but not enough Endurance+4 runes. Big sigh. <slaps face with both hands> Ok. Time to head to the War with the Orcs. What? They cost that much? And for a stack of 10? Whew. Luckily I've been saving up. Onward.
Why ride a horse when you can ride a wolf?!! My level 28 mage had no problems wasting the vampire - so much so, I went back to get him another couple of times, and quickly levelled up to level 29. Now going to ride my wolf to get the minotaurs. I'll get this done, then I'm heading north from Callaheim to kill some smugglers and get the hammer of something or other. Really enjoying this. Glad I rolled a mage, but the other classes do look fun too.
Heh. Wolf huh? Be sure to find the Drake Egg from the island when you get the Key gem for the maze leading to the Hammer. Now this is a ride.
I'm curious about the sequel, too. I am loving this incredibly and had purchased it years ago. The story is long, the world is vast and varied, I couldn't be more pleased. Is the sequel as good? What did someone mean when they posted there are no classes in the sequel?
KotOR is on the schedule, you can probably guess which month. For the first few months at least, I'm choosing the games. I'm open to turning it over to community vote after that, though, if that's what you all would like.
Honestly, I like that this is curated, rather than a popularity contest. I think we're more likely to be taken somewhere different that way. Maybe a public vote on the odd one would be fun - one in four, or one in six. Be good to tackle KotOR, though. One of those games sitting in a folder that I need some impetus to commit my playing time to. May the fourth be with you all.
