Just another day in the life of a corporate drone. But seriously, when you work on a game as long as we did The Executive, my goal every day is to make something interesting to keep myself motivated. And sometimes that just happens to take the form of yellow submarines! @Andy great job! I've only recently begun to get A+'s. I'm not a very good gamer. My brother, the programmer, can ace them all. Me... not so much. Thanks! One of our goals was to make a game for people who aren't into tilt controls. Thanks so much. One of the reasons I love and support Touch Arcade is that it's one of the few venues where small developers like us are right on the front page with the AAA companies. If there's a good game out there, the editors will cover it, and the forums will talk about it. And that's awesome.
This is a very well-designed game, but considering the simplicity of the mechanics, it sure does take up a lot of memory.
Thanks! We invented two proprietary compression algorithms to cut down on the download size, it used to be a lot bigger. Every level is designed by hand, one pixel at a time, and the main character has hundreds of frames of animation, also made by hand. Now that Apple music is streaming, you don't need so much space, right?
The only draw back for me is no iCloud cross save. Was hoping I could pick up where I left off last night with my phone. Still, the game is amazing. I'll be supporting you guys from now on.
As a non-game designer I can only imagine what went into the game to get the graphics you have and can somewhat better understand why the size of the game is so large! Great game! Thanks for making it non-tilt.
Fun Fact: After we finished Pizza Vs. Skeletons, we started on a tilt-based Deathfall 2, since my brother and I both like tilt controls. But it was the feedback from the TouchArcade forums, where we learned that some people just aren't into tilting, that caused us to cancel that project and make The Executive.
REALLY?'just paid 5 bucks for the game, 3 hours later it's 2.99 God. I love the game but that pisses me off
Mother of god. This game is *tremendous* GOTY for me, so far. Superb sense of humour, phenomenal controls, belting upgrade tree and short, manageable levels that I *really really want* to get A+ on. Belter, devs. Chapeau!
You'll have to give me some advice I'm doing pretty good on Intern, but an A and B student on the other two careers.
Well, I seem to not be able to find these hitboxes. Nothing but absolute, almost full-screen swipes work with special attacks for me. But still, I cant stay mad at this game. Its honestly one of the best mobile games Ive ever played. I would still much prefer control options, but even like this its fun. Just not quite functional. PS: any chances for an expansion?
Dear devs, trust a colleague of yours (me) - always offer control options. Never make a game with just one scheme. Even if you think its perfect, many wont ever agree. And its not that hard to add more options. Tilt + swiping, buttons if available. Libraries are avsilable on those, so its just a matter of tinkering.
@Boardumb: Thanks! Probably at some point. There's a few areas and monsters we didn't have time to add in. But right now all I can think about is sleeping.
@riverman_jacob: Thanks! Although it has become readily apparent that the Intern career was breaking us in gently. Great stuff!
I'll echo everyone else on here and say how freakin' amazing this game is. Just got to the executive levels and I need a ton more practice... My one quibble is how quickly I was able to grind and get all of the upgrades. I've probably never had a more fun grind in any game, but I was disappointed once I realized there was an endpoint. I was fully upgraded before I was 5 levels into the Manager levels, making that whole section a breeze. Regardless, I absolutely love it, but there is less motivation to go back and get A+s on every level with nothing new to buy... I'll also add that the swipe controls work wonderfully for me. Took some getting used to, but it just needed a bit of practice. Great game, devs.
I watched some videos of this, and combat seems really clunky. So many glowing recommendations though, so I must be missing something. ELI5 how the game's combat is satisfying, please? I'm interested.
