I really liked this icon better. To me it conveys the game much better and it looks less cluttered. I liked the retro look of the original game, but I think the colors just needed intensifying, they were a little too drab. I look forward to seeing the how the new blocks look though. Hmmm, what about neon style graphics similar to those in Orbital...not sure about anyone else, but that is really compelling to me...
You could release a dreadful game with Orbital's art direction and I'd buy it. I've never been able to resist the neon glow, it's like a moth to a flame.
lol, +1 to that...never thought I'd play a game like orbital, but wrap it in neon, and I had to give it a try
after almost 2 weeks in the Queue, the update was just approved! We've decided to set the price at $1.99, since people who are interested in this kind of game are less likely to be the "impulse buy" type. So it won't be a perfect apples-to-apples comparison with the previous update we released, but the data will still be very interesting to see! It should be showing up in the New Release list in a few hours, depending on when the app store servers update next.
So far... Not good. We will post the sales graph at the end of the weekend but things are not looking good.
...I say continue the experiment...rename it AbsoluteZero and use Orbital style neon graphics like those that were proposed earlier
We've decided to do another update to the game. At the very least, it will add the option to switch between graphical styles. However, instead of bringing back the original graphics, we're thinking about potentially using a look like this for the new "retro" skin: what do you all think? the tiles in the background are kind of distracting right now, we'll have to find a way to clean that up... but overall, what does everyone think of this direction? Of course we can always go back to something more like the original graphics, or something different even as well. The game code is now set up to support switching between 2 graphical styles, which makes everything easier.
we've decided to have the next update let players choose from 3 graphical skins: "BASIC" (this is the colorful tiles one that we tried with the experiment) "RETRO" (the original tiles) "MODERN" (a geometry-wars style particle look) here are some screens:
Thanks for bringing back the old look. Please don't remove it again in the future and only add additional styles and options. I think it's never a good idea to remove something completely from a game on the Appstore, because iTunes doesn't have a good option to keep an old version forever.
Very wise decision to keep the original artwork as one of the skins. Thanks! I do like the Geometry-Wars-skin as well, but it seems hard to distinguish between the tiles already activated and the other ones. Nevertheless I'm really looking forward to the update. BTW: what do you think of my ideas in the other thread (like rewarding less tiles left in the Clear-Mode and a "Zen-Mode")?
I haven't really been following this topic, but I did see it back at the beginning and I'm impressed at how far the game has come. I absolutely love having different skin sets in puzzle games and the ones you've designed all look great. I'm glad to see you're pushing through everything the App Store's been throwing at you, determination is a huge part of what makes a great deveoper.
glad to see the retro back, but I am intrigued by the modern scheme...now that looks to have some nice potential
Thanks for the comments! We've already submitted the update so hopefully it will be approved soon. I've been playing the geomtery wars style skin and it's become my favorite one.
