I won't even try. Why? I don't like hitting a cleverly designed paywall. The kind that lets you feel as though you are making progress for several hours until...BAM! Grind for the rest of your life or pay up.
Eye no, write? Having played a bit more I'm starting to find the game somewhat dull. The timer elements and needing specific weapons are a bit tedious. It'd be interesting to see the control scheme used in a more open world. For now, however, deleted.
Hmmm... seems they changed the gas mechanic a bit so you only need one bar to play a game rather than three. This means you can now play 12 games in a row instead of 4, which more or less solves my main problem with the game. Now, I know it's fun to hate on this game, but I'm still enjoying it quite a bit. The graphics and great, the gameplay is fun (though admittedly simple and repetitive), the item crafting/upgrading is a nice carrot on a stick and the novelty of the unique controls hasn't worn off for me yet. I'm having a really good time with this one actually.
I'm loving this game!! Love the controls, takes a little to get use to but once you get it down its amazing!! Just a few minor things I would like to be added and changed. It would be nice to either have gas restore faster, be able to buy gas with black or have something else to do while you wait for gas. There needs to be something to warn you that an enemy is coming from behind you, red indicators on the left and right, a mini map or something. The only thing I really don't like is that some weapons shouldn't do absolutely NOTHING to some enemy's, I understand needing a certain kind of weapon to kill an enemy but all other weapons should be able to at least some damage. Overall this game is very AMAZING, graphics, voice acting, controls and the building system for weapons, vehicles, items and how it all works together is so great, it just makes it so fun and enjoyable!! It would be cool to have daily missions or a weekly special weapon quest that everyone has an equal chance of collecting all the parts to build. Also I think adding a co-op mode by Bluetooth and/or wifi would make this such an incredible game, maybe adding abilitys like stand back to back with your teammate while in fiery or something!! Thank you Mobage inc. for such a incredible game, hope to see some updates soon, it can only get better!!! Never deleting!!! The Drowning will be on my iPhone 5 and iPad 2 forever and will be moved to every next gen Ideivice I get in the future!!
This game is great and all, but I just hit a wall.(yes you all told me so) I just crafted the talking doll, and it's taking 400 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE CRAP!!!! Now that's messed up! Edit: still too early, it's only 400 minutes, I feel stoopid...
I guess there are still people that can manage with this terrible timer to kill system. There's not much here lol.
Yeah, I noticed they'd cut the timers down way, way low. Meh, I say. Meh. It's still a mediocre, simplistic FPS without any real excitement and a control system designed around novelty for the sake of it that adds nothing to the game. I'm playing it because I like (virtually) shooting things in the face for no money, but the fun's pretty much run dry. Ooo, the arenas get bigger later on! Who cares? I've still got absolutely no reason to do anything but run backwards and forwards over the same twenty foot of ground. Ooo, there's so many weapons to craft! Who cares? Zooming in is awkward and makes the touch controls even clumsier, and the basic rhythm of the gameplay barely changes in the slightest. Run forward, turn, shoot, repeat. Easily one of the biggest disappointments in videogaming this year. I'll... probably still listen to the hype from other developers (I want to believe, damn it!) but Scattered get a permanent black mark from me for this one. Whoever's paying money for this, I hope you're either a) very rich, b) easily pleased, or both.
So, first post on this forum. I just got on the oil rig, which is the 6th stage. I paid $5 for gold at one point, even though I wasn't interested in rewarding the publisher for putting out a freemium game. It was at the second site for the 5th stage, when the enemies require explosive weapons to hit. It was taking me forever to farm for the gyrojet pistol. Every time you are killed at a stage which requires a different type of weapon (sniper, shotgun, machine gun, explosives) a prompt screen immediately comes up guaranteeing you a weapon of that type for 100 gold. At this point, I had already put in enough time into the game to feel like I should pay SOMETHING, so I forked over the $5 for the 500 gold, and spent 100 of it on a new weapon. Which turned out to be a rocket launcher. If you thought the game didn't take much skill with the other weapons, this takes it to another level. If I just shoot anywhere on the ground AROUND the bad guys, they take damage. Also, it can kill the distant throwing enemies in two shots. So no need to take a sniper weapon and awkwardly change weapons while the enemies close in. Also, it takes 3 shots to kill the tank enemy introduced in the swamp, so that's nice. When I started, it took 3 gas tanks for each level. That went down to 1, which helps. The craft times started at reasonable amounts, but kept increasing. 30 minutes, hour, etc.. Now I have 3 items I'm waiting to craft. The gyrojet is done at 3 hours. The gas bomb will take 6 hours. Another person just said the talking doll takes 6 hours 40 minutes. And I still have the cell phone. Plus I just got instructions for the C4. I thought I read somewhere the game has 10 stages, so crafting times could very well get even more ridiculous. I have 400 gold left, so I could easily use it to rush any of this. I also have 4 gas tanks and 2 flares, all of which I refuse to use. I think the mechanics are fun for what it is. The commitment to make this a freemium model ruined the game in many ways, in my opinion. Personally, I think the control system and level layouts are fine for what they are. But it does turn into a kiting expedition for the most part of going from one side of a level to another. The rocket launcher is a huge help. In one fell swoop I now have a weapon that: 1) does area effect damage. I easily kill multiple enemies with one shot 2) kills the tank in 3 shots very dependably. Since the tank can kill your character with one blow, it's nice to know how many shots you have to get off before it dies. 3) kills the inaccessible throwing enemies without switching weapons On the shore level it's no big deal, because you can carry around the sniper weapon and not think about the rest, but for other levels with throwing enemies, it's too much of a hassle to switch weapons, and too many things can go wrong while you're doing it. Using the rocket launcher eliminates that. It's nice because it gets you into frenzy mode faster. I haven't seen the game designer be churlish with parts. The one star (common) parts pretty much show up the first time you play a level if you score in the 3 star range, and the one rare item you need to get to craft an item typically shows up the first time you hit the 4 star score. But I also access the level by going to the specific item I'm working on, going to the part I need, and touch the level it indicates where I can get that part to access the level. A couple of things the game doesn't make clear. If you run into enemies, that's "melee". After the beginning, I don't kill enemies any more that way, but I do create a short stun effect which can help me get through the "reloading" screen for my weapon, without getting hit, which helps to keep me in frenzy mode longer. You can hit enemies while moving. Just tap the place you want to move to, then move around by swiping to wherever you want to direct your fire. It's easier with the rocket launcher, because you don't have to be quite as accurate (although misses can still definitely occur). Since I'm not going to pay to rush the crafting, or buy gas, it's obviously going to take me a while to play through, but I'll try to update the thread as I do. I'm no expert on the game, but from reading the thread it appears I've been willing to invest more time in it than others, so if anyone has any questions or ideas about how to play the game better, I'd be willing to participate in that type of discussion.
Had to revert back to stick and button controls, controls were a nice idea but if you can't run backwards while shooting then you're screwed.
It's not ideal, but if you tap on a spot in the distance, you'll start running towards it. Then hit the 180 degree button, and start shooting. Make sure you have MOVE AND SHOOT toggled ON in settings. I like the controls fine. Once you get used to them, IMO it makes the game more immersive. Even prior to the rocket launcher, which was a game changer for me, I enjoyed doing the two finger tap to shoot. I thought it made the game kind of fun, actually. I realize it's not popular on this thread, so I'm an outlier, but it's different, and I think it's kind of cool. Just wish to high heaven the game wasn't freemium --- regardless of whatever other issues the game has --- but that's universal, so nothing new there.
I completely agree with the last few big posts. It's far from perfect, but I'm still having a pretty good time. Loving the controls, and I don't see any paywalls in sight (beyond the timers, of course).
Cool to hear a few peeps enjoying the game. I'm one of those who just couldn't enjoy it with the freemium model. This is a classic example of a game that needs a high level of immersion to make the player feel the rush of combat. With the timers, IAPs and pay to win options constantly in the player's face its impossible to get the sense that the game world is real. It's a shame because the devs are obviously talented and put alot of thought into utilizing the platform.
I couldn't agree more, Lost Deputy. So many things done well. I like the graphics. The gameplay is actually really good...if it weren't the only thing! Even a modicum of a more open world with a tad more story would have been nice. But you can't do that AND do freemium. Have the arena style/timer scenes as a change of pace. I think they did a good job with the voice over talent in the narrative segues. I wish there was some way of going back to listen to them. As it is I won't craft one of the vehicles (or for the next phase, the explosives) unless I'm in a place where I can watch/listen to the scene cut, because there's no timer. It starts right up! They drastically toned down the gas, so that was good. It's still a pain in the ass, but hell. I could even argue having a limit for how long you can play the game could be considered a good thing, lol. What if every game app in the app store had a time limit for how much you could play it in a day? Any of us who have been addicted gamers at one time or another would be forced to be much more productive, haha! It's honestly not that difficult to upgrade the equipment without paying. At least, it wasn't for me. I had to grind a little bit, but it wasn't too bad. Just needed to play smart. The one time I did pay (and even though I paid $5, but I've really only spent the equivalent of 99 cents. The other $4 of gold is still just sitting there) I did end up getting a game changing item. Hopefully everyone is as fortunate as me if they do decide to chunk over some money to the publisher. The big obstacle at this point are the crafting item timers. It wasn't a big deal for the first 5 stages, with the longest I can remember being an hour. But now the timer is up to 400 minutes, and that's after the last item was 360 minutes. I still have a couple of other items left, and I don't want to finish the oil rig stage until I have everything crafted. That's a long time! I really hope Scattered looks to a different partner willing to take a chance with a different model for making money on iOS. Kudos to Mobage and DeNa for being monetarily successful with their freemium models, but I'm of the strong opinion that more robust titles can still be successful on iOS by charging higher upfront fees. Folks like Square Enix, and the Deus Ex + XCom titles seem to be doing quite well. I don't see this inevitable slide to freemium to be able to get good content on to the iOS platform. But if a publisher has success with a certain strategy, they're going to keep going to it. That's true whether it's freemium or pay up front. Having said all that, like sweetdiss mentions, so far there hasn't truly been a paywall (although it may be inaccurate for me to say that since my 99 cent purchase made a HUGE difference for me).
Nah there's no paywall competed the game and got the final ending, although there's not much to do after that, I have a custom explosive crossbow which like you said an explosive gun of any type is the only weapon you need (which eliminates the accidental switching of weapons because now I only carry one) And now am bored I have crafted all the basic weapons but getting silver and having a slim chance at getting the custom weapons goes very very slow so am bored until they release an update or something Now I just currently farm the last level on defend (easy to get five stars) in hope of getting silver I upgraded my custom explosive crossbow to level 25/25
This game is actually really fun and addictive but the timers completely ruin it, it would be better if it cost £1.99 and there were no timers... I mean 6 hours to craft the doll? Ridiculous
What to do & where to go after creating detonator & completed the level in the oil rig ???? Pls help !!!
