Normally I'd close or delete a thread where a game was removed but since a pretty nice discussion popped up here about first person dungeon crawlers I figured I'd make a new thread for the game when it re-released and move this over to general discussion. But, there's no real reason to wait to do that so this is in general now and the game should fall off the hot games list shortly.
Cool beans! That works for me! I love discussing dungeon crawlers, so it's nice to have a dedicated thread now. Thanks!
Well, since this is now an open thread about dungeon crawlers, I figured I'd share my favorites on iOS. Did you ever play my game "Descend"? I don't think it's available anymore. I always thought that was a pretty decent game. I liked the story and characters, even if graphically it was a bit rough around the edges.
Yeah, now that you mention it, I do remember playing that one back in the day. I dug it, but I don't think I ever ended up finishing it.
@macatron: Did you complete 7 Mages? If not, how far did you go? @drelbs: If you start playing 7 Mages, let us know how it goes and how you like it.
Sadly I haven't completed it yet. I keep getting distracted by new releases. LOL! Plus I started a new character when The Quest HD came out, and that game ended up consuming my life once again. I was deep in the swamps when I put it down. I really need to get back into that game, though. I wish there where more games like it on the AppStore.
Undercroft was my introduction to these type of games and is still my fav. It's totally free no iap no ads no nothing I'd grab it before iOS 11 I believe it will be removed from the App Store because it's written in 32bit.
I agree. Undercroft is definitely an excellent crawler! I only wished it saw some sequels since they left the ending open. C'est la vie.
Undercroft was really good - I got to beta test that one. Sadly it didn't do well. At least they left it out there for everyone to play.
One of the guys that moderates the Facebook group mentioned earlier also runs this site dedicated to first-person, grid-based dungeon crawlers. Probably something you guys would get a kick out of visiting: http://www.dungeoncrawlers.org
I got the game before removal from the store. I'm now on floor 2 and found stone that I put on trap. Problem now is they won't budge and on a youtube walkthrough for the steam version I saw they can be budged. Is that a bug of the Ipad version ?
You mean the stone "Blocks"? Once they're placed on a floorswitch they can't/don't need to be moved. Maybe send me a PM to discuss?
I'll definitely have to check some of these out. I have the Quest HD and the add on. I'm playing 7 mages(the free version), I'm going to buy the full version. I like Legend of Grimrock, but I'm having trouble with the hunger thing. I'm having trouble with starving. It seems the original dungeon master was more forgiving, or at least provided more food creatures to kill. Maybe it's just my memory. Anyway, I'm always up for a good dungeon crawler. Have any of you tried axe and fate 2? it's pretty good. It's not exactly grid based but has turn based battles and such. The only issue I have with it is that there is a bug where if you fulfill the objective of the last tutorial quest it crashes back to the desktop. The developer says he lost his programmer, so it won't be fixed soon unfortunately.
I didn't have a problem with finding food in Legend Of Grimrock, which in itself was a problem because it meant that managing hunger just became busy work. I had the exact same issue in Coldfire Keep - I added fishing which let you catch as much food as you needed, but then what was the point of any of it? I removed hunger altogether in The Deep Paths for that reason. I think hunger worked really well in Dungeon Master because it was a novelty. Not because it's a good game mechanic overall.
