Well the question is fairly reasonable given it's by the same developer. Just want to make sure it's not a polished or rebadged Coldfire and is, in fact, entirely new.

Hey all - bug with rampant black blobs on iPhone 7 has been corrected as Josh mentioned. Not sure of the exact relaunch date, but it will be more than a week, but less than a month. Big apologies for that problem getting through - been kicking myself.

In regards to comparisons to Coldfire Keep - yes, this is a completely different game. It's also a first-person dungeon crawler, so it's the same in the way that Battlefield is the same as Call Of Duty, but it's a completely different game in terms of story, characters, art, etc.

All of these games (both mine and others like Legend Of Grimrock) are essentially homages to a game called "Dungeon Master" that was launched in 1987. The concept of first-person, grid-based crawlers was around before that (in a very basic form), but Dungeon Master was the game that really blew people's minds at the time, and has resulted in guys like me that pretty much just want to recreate the amazing feeling of what it was like to play that game, back in the day.

Loved Dungeon Master. I think the sequel was called Chaos Returns. Wish someone would port them.

I have an Amiga 1200 permanently set up in my place for playing Dungeon Master and other titles from that time :)

"The Deep Paths: Labyrinth Of Andokost" also draws some inspiration from the great "Lands Of Lore: Throne Of Chaos", which you CAN buy on GOG for modern PCs. Well worth checking out.

Lands of Lore is such an excellent game! I'm really happy to see the resurgence of dungeon crawlers in the last few years. I just wish more of them, like The Deep Paths, would make the transition from PC to iOS. I think the touch screen is absolutely perfect for them, plus I enjoy having access to them right from my phone. :D

I'm also a dungeon master lover.
There was some others out at the time too, that was similar. Was it called black crypt? Also was blood wych I think.
So many games out on the Amiga, even the c64 that I wish they would remake for today's mobile devices.

Does this have grid movement like dungeon master, or is it free movement like a modern first person?

Agreed - these grid-based dungeon crawlers are ideal for touch screen.

Getting lost is half the fun sometimes!

I have this (hopefully) subtle system that I use when designing the games that involves putting "something memorable" at most of the big junctions. So when you come to a branching path, you just remember "I turned left at the junction with the blood on the floor".

The Deep Paths also has a map system, but it's not a straight-up automap. I've at least made players earn it a little... :)

    Wow yeah! Great game

I loved all the D&D adventure strategy games at the time too, like pools of radiance.
    Wish they would be remade

There actually was a port/clone of the original dungeon master for iOS a few years back. It may have been called dungeon masters. I actually still have it on my iPad. It looks like iit is an exact clone, not sure how legit it was... it does work.

    I loved all those games

    Dungeon Master
    Chaos Returns
    Eye of the Beholder series
    Black Crypt

Does anyone remember a sci-fi game called Captive? It was basically a sci-fi Dungeon Master type game. Loved that one also, and Hired Guns of course. I had all of these on the Amiga back In the day.

I finished Coldfire Keep a while ago. I was stuck for ages on floor 9, I recall even emailing the developer for hints. I had basically given up when one day I happened on the last switch or something like that and got through. Loved the game.

Currently playing. Legend of Grimrock and the Quest HD.

Can't wait for Deep Paths to be available again.

Can you elaborate a bit on this.
I have no fun any more with dungeon crawlers that dont have a map of some sort.
My days of suffering with graph paper are thankfully long gone.

Captive!! Mate, who remembers that game?! I LOVED it. One of the few Mindscape games that didnt suck. ;)

I vaguely remember other dungeon crawlers like Corporation. That was on Amiga as well. I think it scared the shit out of me, back then. Gotta look it up...

    Cheers mate
