The framerate is fine, but the textures are really, really (did I say really enough? No?), really, really low res. As you can see here:
Well, it's kinda unfair to compare a game that's designed for a high-end PC to a mobile game. iDevices are powerful yes, but so far there's no game that has come out so far that is on par with this one. The only other good "big" sandbox type of game is GTA 3, and even that game has a lot of issues that never got addressed (the awful aiming system, the fact that it doesn't have smooth framerate on 4g devices even after the performance update, etc.) That game still crashes on my iPod For what it is, this is the closest we have to a good Batman game on iOS. And as for the difficulty? It really doesn't come from beating up a bunch of thugs.
Though I like the art style (and especially batman's suit) better in TDKR, I see what you mean. But the combat isn't as bad as, say, that Zelda clone by GL or TASM. But yes I'd prefer combos mixed in with the cool animations. The AI is not to shabby, not like the crap that was MC3's. Still awful though What I'm amazed at is the absalutely breathtaking atmosphere and graphics GL managed breathed into this open world game, with no pop up and smooth framerate. It's incredible. And the fact that you can use different gadgets really helps alleviate the repetivity. Perfect? No. Not at all. Better than TASM? Hell yes. It hits the atmosphere, voice acting, and graphics spot on. What was the cutting edge that we were all amazed at last year? Backstab. Now look at it in comparison to this. A buggy piece of crap with even worse button mashing, repetitive missions and awful, awful graphics. The animations? What animations? Dialogue? Ugh. We've come a LONG way. Batman is less button mashy, has 10x smoother animations, far more entertaining world and useful and fun gadgets to use to allivate the repetivity. The graphics surpass anything GL has offered up before, and this is an open world. There is a reqlly deep upgrade system. We have vehicles. Gliding. Cameras to avoid, helicopters to take down, and rockets to dodge. And guess what? I find it fun. Yes it would be near perfect if the combat was better, but apart from that what's to complain about? IAP? Yes you get coins a little slowly I'll grant you that. But still, I'm loving the game. And no, I'm not a GL fanboy, I generally hate their games. But this one is better than most of their others (not saying much ) Just think of what we'll see in MC4.
if we're going to be comparing this to arkham city (which we should definitely not) can we atleast use gameplay from an iPad 3 or an iPhone 4S? Personally, I like the combat. Granted, it's nothing compared to the amazingness that is Arkham city, but as for an iOS game? Definitely a good buy.
Sure, just give me an iPhone 4S or iPad 3 and I'll do it. And that was Arkham Asylum, not City, so a game from 2009, not 2011.
Der-Kleine, is it still worth getting on the iPhone 4 even though the textures are lower res? Spiderman was terrible on the lower devices and I don't want to waste £5.
well to say something positive about the graphics: The Pop-in doesen't seem to be as bad as in other open world gameloft games and it does seem to run ok, so if that's what's bothering you I'd say buy it.
Still to be swayed either way on this one. I ditched my iPhone 4 for a 4S two weeks ago, and also own a new iPad, so performance is not an issue for me. When it comes to Gameloft I am wary of handing over my cash since the God awful "Backstab", although Nova 3 did redeem them somewhat.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywMSBdhG5Os&feature=youtube_gdata Don't know how to embed it, sorry :/ Anyway played on an iPad 3, recorded with display recorder. Any framerate drops are the recorder's fault, same with the slightly low res video. The first few minutes is just riding around the city looking at all the eye candy, skip to the middle for the action http://m.youtube.com/?reason=8&rdm=3388#/watch?desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DywMSBdhG5Os%26feature%3Dyoutube_gdata&feature=youtube_gdata&v=ywMSBdhG5Os&gl=US
Are you people mad? To compare this 7 dollar open world batman to the 60 dollar batman AC is not fair at all. I think the game is great maybe the best iOS game I've play ever. The game is huge. Batman AC is great to for 60$ on a console. People please do not listen to these fool saying framerate is 15-25 fps don't you think more people would be saying that. I know the game is good for the simple reason I'm playing and the few gameloft haters are try to find anything wrong with this game. Its getting compare to AC and cost 7 dollar why not get it. Call me a fanboy thats cool I am a fan of good games.
Thanks...however you did that. Yeah if you want to see the fighting system just skip to around 6:30 or so, I was doing a lot of exploring the first half of the vid.
Have just finished a mission where the frame rate was consistently high throughout, so I guess some levels are more optimised than others. Gameplay so far is definitely designed to entertain rather than challenge. Must comment again on the voice acting - surprisingly good for an iOS game.
Thanks for the video JBRUU! Things like riding through a vehicle that happend around 1:00 in the video, does that happen alot?
