Well I gotta say, this game looks good... dare I say almost console quality.. The voice acting sounded fine to me. I really didnt have high expectations for it and was actually looking forward to The Amazing Spider-man(TASM) more... but although personally I didn't think TASM was totally trash...TDKR seems a LOT more polished and shows up TASM flaws more so. oh and yeah the icon is pretty rubbish! A win for Gameloft me thinks... So far its been a good year for IOS gaming The next big title I'm waiting on is Street Fighter x Tekken, and rightly so I do have high expectations for this one, so please capcom don't disappoint!!
On a related note: 14 dead and 50 wounded in Batman cinema shooting - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/9414264/Batman-cinema-shooting-14-people-shot-dead-and-50-injured-in-Denver.html I really don't understand this. No sane person could have a reason to go to a cinema and start shooting at random people and even shoot a baby at point blank range.
Yeah agreed for this, but given the high price of batarangs, I bit anyway. Not a fan of the camera in enclosed spaces...
Interesting game The game seems damn good. I have installed it on my iPhone 4S. The missions seems quite interesting with real good graphics.
Similar questions have been asked throughout this thread for performance on iTouch, iPhone 4 and iPad 1and not one person has answered it yet.
I am playing it on my iPhone 4. Loading seems a bit longer than iPhone 4S, but game play is not so bad at all. It seems pretty legit. Take my word for it.
Not funny. Imagine if one of your relatives was killed and some kid said some stupid joke about it soon after. I'm just glad they caught him so he can rot in jail
Are the camera and IAPs deal breakers? Do they break from the fun of the gameplay enough to make you stop playing? The movie shooting is horrible. I'm afraid to follow the news on it. It's hard to wrap your mind around such an act.
So here's the dilly. NOTE: PLAYED ON AN iPAD 1. Please read for impressions on frame rate. It's not always great but it does not ruin the game, you will see when you read. This is definitely an attempt to be Arkham City Pocket Edition. How does it work out? Much better than I expected for Gameloft, that's for certain. I've only gotten to the third mission so far, but there are indoor Predator-like situations where you grapple from gargoyle to gargoyle where stealth take-downs are important (though not as varied as what is possible in the console). You *can* mash and get away with the combat system, however, a counter button pops up whenever there's an opportunity to counter an opponent. It's like the Free Flow console combat Lite if you use it - it can be very fluid and fun. But nothing more complex than that except a gadget here or there; no enemies with different weapons and ways of disarming, etc. The controls aren't quite as fluid as I'd like for Batman, especially after playing Arkham City, but they're more than playable. There are so many other elements borrowed - but simplified - from the console Arkham games, you will see them everywhere, for the most part they are well done enough to be fun but not nearly as cool as the console counterparts. Predator sections come to mind here. One thing that is disappointing is the frame-rate. It chugs. It is always playable so far, but flying/grappling outdoors can lead to 2fps for a second before it smooths out, or when fighting if the camera zooms in too close to Batman and he goes transparent - which happens a lot. Thankfully like I said the game remains very playable during this time; it is still completely responsive. If a counter opportunity pops up while the framerate has dropped in combat, it is still responsive to you hitting the button, for instance. Remember that the iPad has 20% more pixels to render than the iPhone 4/iTouch 4, so probably that is why the frame rate seems less. The graphics definitely aren't iPad 2 quality but they're much, MUCH better than other Gameloft open-world games that ran on the original iPad. There's even pixel shader usage. There's much more to the gameplay that I haven't mentioned, more to each aspect that I have mentioned like combat. My point is to get across that as long as you don't have sky-high expectations, this is such a good version of Arkham City Lite Pocket that you need to buy it, now. Also, for anyone who has an original iPad (nobody seems to), yes the game is playable. It's not rock-steady and you'll be like "WTF?" as you get 4fps here and there, but 90%+ of the time the frame-rate is decent and the game is very enjoyable. My rating so far even though I'm only in the 3rd mission? As Gameloft games go, my rating is 6 out of 5. That is not a typo. I like it a lot more than N.O.V.A. 3 or the latest Modern Combat whatever the # is, or any other Gameloft game, even if it has its frustrations. I have played them all except mostly the racing ones and Spiderman. As far as iOS games go, I'd rate it at least an 8 out of 10 so far, and my impression is only improving, I'm sure by the end it'll probably be 9 out of 10. It has its frustrations here and there but it overcomes them very well so far. EDIT: On the matter of IAP. There's a $100 IAP! I almost choked when I accidentally clicked it but thankfully the game asks you to confirm before it even pops up the password box! Thank God! It does shove it in your face a little - when you click on a character upgrade that requires coins (gained by $$ or combat) not SP (gained by leveling up) - but it is definitely not necessary so far. But if you don't click on those character upgrades (no you can't even see what they are unless you have enough coinage) it doesn't shove it in your face at all. I *did* spend $2 IAP on the XP and coinage boosters. $9 is worth it for this game and it seems like it'll add up as I play. No idea how long the game is but I plan on cleaning up the streets because it is fun, especially if you actually use the counters during combat, watching it is kind of a little like watching on the consoles. EDIT 2: I think I'm going to re-install Arkham City and play through it, this game reminds me of it so much and that game kicked even more ass. EDIT 3: Someone asked if I mean Arkham City Lockdown for iOS or Arkham City the console/PC game. I meant the console/PC game! I was comparing it to the PC game in all respects. I have not played Arkham City Lockdown the iOS game. EDIT 4: The voice acting is so much better than you'd expect or find in any other Gameloft game. But the mouths are still shut for me, I don't know if it's an "old" device thing or not. EDIT 5: Finally hopefully the last edit. The framerate issues outdoors when flying or grappling are a relatively small number of flights/grapnels and the framerate smooths out pretty quickly. For some reason the Pipe Dreams-style hacking is a crappy frame-rate but it doesn't make it any harder, it's just a little strange to me that this simple 2d screen is chugging, but maybe it's still rendering the game behind it. *shrug*
I played a little in my 4th gen iPod and it seems alright (I only played a few minutes so I would not spoil the movie)The character models looked awful and the run animation on Batman is awful.Besides those few things it seems alright,I'll go and play some more and hopefully post again with more impressions PS:The shooting at the theatre sounds aweful, what could make someone do something this horrible.I just hope this man is brought to justice.
The camera blows, but so far for me it mostly only blows when it doesn't matter too much. Indoor fist fights mostly. A counter button still pops up when it's time, and it's still responsive even if your FPS drops on your first-gen iPad. Other than that I haven't had too much issue, even Predator mode works OK when I have to find a quick exit, if I just trust the grapnel to take me somewhere, like I could on the PC Arkham City.
I've almost done that on IAP. My fear is I download so many free games that my pass word will be active on a miss click! Good to hear about the extra step GL put in. I accidentally bought Pirates Treasure a few months ago. You had me sold on TDKR until you said AC kicked more butt. Are talking Lockdown for ios or the console game?
