So where do I begin after the Godzilla kingdom of monster series. I want to get all the collections I can.
Heya gang, I just saw this thread and thought I'd chime in! Most of the discussion has centered around hard copy comics or online web strips, so I hope I can throw in this thought/topic into the mix. I've been collecting comics for decades (I even have a terrible story of how I lost my Lee-Kirby X-Men #1 that I can share for any interested folk, assuming I can relive the moment without hitting something...). However, there was a period when I wasn't happy with the output of content from comics and walked away. What HAS brought me back, though, is the iPad and the Comixology app. I've re-bought some old books that are still locked away in a Las Vegas storage that I need to retrieve and bring back home with me (another story) and I've been able to discover new gems that I never would have found if it not for the available tech. For example, as a big fan of the AMC TV series, I was able to buy the entire comic book run of The Walking Dead at 50% off the hardcover omnibuses. And, I save tons of physical space because everything in on my iPad. Its cool to see the way the TV and comic stories merge and diverge. That's just one example, but there are many hidden gems from independent creators that may never reach the paper-bound pamphlet format but the digital format gives them a unique opportunity to share their stories with a wider audience. Now, once again, I look forward to getting my "Wednesday Stash" on my iDevice each week.
I would love a tablet for comics and graphic novels. Although I have enough reward points to get an IPad I would prefer a windows tablet. I am that tiny minority that wants a screen that will show a comic page actual size and it would allow me to play all these indie game bundles I keep picking up. Speaking of Indie comics which ones are you collecting right now? I hopefully will be going to Small Press Expo (SPX) tomorrow and have no idea what I will be picking up. So much to choose from.
Think Tank by Hawkins and Ekedal This book is the best on the market...bar none. No superheroes or megalomaniac planet-eaters. Just intelligently clever writing set in a real world setting garnished with believable and likeable characters. There's no other book on the market today that leaves me feeling more than satisfied for the money I put down. The back material is incredibly entertaining and revelatory. Hawkins does his research and he shares the wealth. How generous of him, eh? Entertainingly eclectic and wildly informative brain food that actually challenges one to think made available for geekdom worldwide.
