I don't think the "doing it wrong" excuse works when you've got this many people expressing displeasure. It's the developers job to make the game meet the players needs, you can't just expect everyone who buys the game to adjust their style unless you've got clearly laid out instructions and reasons for why the game controls differently to others. In this case there isn't a particularly good reason, and there are other games that do it better.
The game has two "bugs" with the jump button. Tapping the area to the right of the Jump button (in the rightmost corner under the B button) counts as another press of the Jump button. So it's easy to tap Jump and slide your thumb a bit and register another jump. The other bug is when you hold the jump button and tap one of the arrows to move left or right it is recorded as another press of the Jump button. It's not your place to tell people they are using the controls incorrectly just because you have a different style of playing. It's about as ridiculous as assuming everyone has an ipad to go play on...
Everyone should try playing the original flash game, which feels so much more snappy and fun. The devs should have stuck with a wider play area, which is probably no longer an option for them without completely reworking the game. The least they can do for now is make the physics less floaty and the edge/collision detection better. I would still like to see a mode which mimics the flash version as closely as possible, small sprites be damned. They could call it Classic Mode.
649m, dammit! Are you anoraks playing the game, too? Or did you find you were no good at it and then blame the controls? You've got one person requesting that the hit area on the buttons be increased while someone else thinks that being able to hit jump just outside the 'A' button is a bug. The devs need to be careful what advice they take from here.
Stop trolling. You don't understand the issues and aren't able to contribute anything of worth. Both the request and the bug are separate problems. The initial hit area is small and moving just slightly to the right creates an separate call to jump. That creates two jumps so quickly that you get little to no additional height AND you've wasted your second jump. Once that is fixed the hit area for the jump button will be MUCH bigger and everyone will be happy. Oh and for the record: I'm at 917m using only single jumps so perhaps YOU could benefit from these fixes?
Okay, so perhaps I've been harsh on the game. To be honest, I love it, and am having a blast playing it a lot to unlock the Agent. Right now that the double jump is a bit iffy, I prefer using the Leaper (I've gotten up to 600~ with it, so I'm not an expert yet) One thing that might be great is new modes. I don't know if this would invade copyright laws, but a level with pure Tetris blocks would be awesome. Actually, different-shaped blocks might make for a neat "Hard" mode. As for characters, I do think that the Halfbot character needs to be beefed up, and one way I can imagine of doing that is adding more jumps to him (like 4) or increasing his jump. Regardless, it is a great game. Thanks, Halfbot, for creating it and for listening to our requests and concerns
No doubt this game's a gem, very fun and well crafted. I've been able to scale pretty high, still under 500m, but have unlocked all characters. I still find blockman to be the best... Still as originally griped, would love to see the controls get some love so people can start 5 starring this game.
Love the idea of the tetris blocks. Lots of ledges and overhangs to make things harder. You make a good point about halfbot too. His jumps are weak so providing more would make for an interesting play style. Maybe change the laser blast to a large beam that can take out several blocks at once? I'd rather not see any one character get over powered but I think they all show potential for completely different play styles (moreso than they already do) @creepshow - not sure if you saw but there is already a bugfix update in apple's hands for approval that should fix those wasted double jumps. Hopefully it goes through soon!
Woohoo! Just made it to number 10 in the all time scores! Must improve score cause I know it won't last. This game is great. Once the update comes out with improved controls I will be a very happy camper.
Once the control and hit detection issues have been rectified I do have an idea for a mode: You start by coming down with one of the falling blocks and you have to jump from block to block in the air because they do not stack at the bottom of the screen. Could be an incredibly hard mode, who knows?!
I read this forum every day and today I decide to register just to tell that this game is worth you're money! I don't understand why are you whining about controls.. they are not perfect (jet), but if they were I would rate this game 6 and now its just 5 star game for me! It's hard and challenging and so addictive.. .. can't wait to unlock agent
Welcome to the forum and +1 to that. Since I bought the game I canĀ“t stop playing it every day. Happy to see I am not the only one with the jump issue and that a update is coming soon. For the moment making fast taps for every jump works for me. Thanks Halfbot for the game!
Isn't there a cheat code to change the game's background (which is actually incredibly detailed with moving animation)? Jokingly I thought I'd post a vieled complaint to join the legion of fiends who find it so trendy to hurl random complaints towards this incredibly awesome game. Quit nagging and go play The Blocks Cometh more... I'm glad I don't live in your world.
QBC, A casual mode will be included in a future content update to open the game up to a wider audience. It will include multiple lives and a slower pace.
No problem. Thanks for the feedback. Feedback improves the game and so keep it coming. Also more modes are in the works.. here is a sample http://twitpic.com/3wvqoi
Sounds good. That might get my wife to play too. But how about a hard mode? I don't know if you saw my mention earlier, but what about a mode where the blocks don't stop at the bottom? That would force you to jump from block to block as they fall.
I love this game, and I'm glad I paid the .99! One problem, though: I feel like the flash version is better at this point solely because the screen is more zoomed out: there's more space for movement and more places for blocks to fall. Could you add a zoom option for the next update? Thanks!
