For a buck, heck yeah. And I also like the Gamebot mode just as much, if not more than the classic mode (haven't really played casual or arcade yet as having 3 lives doesn't really appeal to me) so I'd recommend that for another buck if you like the classic mode.
Without "negative" response from consumers how else would companies know what they could improve/fix? Controls in this game may be better in this release, that doesn't make them better than controls of other games.

I like it, but it is purely cosmetic. It depends on if it's worth it for you for $1. The music is the same tune but made with different software, I think, more like what you'd hear on a Gameboy. The controls are placed slightly higher and are definitely not any worse than the main controls. You can only play in landscape. Also, when you're about to pass someone on the Game Center leaderboard you see their name with a little line in the background, which is something I quite like. If you really like the main game and just want something that plays like classic mode in landscape but with some different aesthetics than it's a good buy for the price, in my opinion.

Finally got around to playing the update, and my score is a bit higher now with the landscape layout. The new content is interesting too, although I can't quite reach that high yet.
