I'm not one to shy away from a premium game and love platformers but not sure about this one. DonnyDJ76 Well-Known Member Nov 1, 2011 1,793 58 48 Male Teacher Hackensack, NJ #6 DonnyDJ76, Jun 1, 2016 This looks like a fun game but I'm wary of paying $3.99 until someone posts about the control. cshmee Well-Known Member Mar 14, 2013 61 0 6 Making games! Maryland #7 cshmee, Jun 1, 2016 The song is "Circles" by Otis Heat and it does indeed appear in the game. Little note about the floatyness, one of the main mechanics is you control the height and length of Bernie's jump by holding the jump button. So holding it down will give you a bigger jump like you see in the trailer, when you just tap the jump button it's smaller jump, more in line with your typical platformer jump. Since it's an auto-run game, the player has more control over his jump, so you're in total control of how floaty it is. Hope that helps! Gambler Well-Known Member Mar 10, 2014 546 110 43 Gazorpazorp #8 Gambler, Jun 1, 2016 Last edited: Jun 1, 2016 Took one for the team and bought the game. Imps: The game's some kind of endless runner/platformer hybrid. It consists of levels about 5 minutes long, premise is basically jumping over gaps and sliding under obstacles. Tapping on the jump button longer means higher/wider jumps. The fourth level is a bit different, as you have to tilt your device to avoid spikes. The fifth level introduces a new mechanic with springs you have to quickly create between chasms that are otherwise too wide to jump over (by tapping the spring icon and then a space in the chasm) - Then you have to - quickly again - make the correct jump to land on the spring and make it over. Hadn't played any farther, with introducing this new mechanic the game quickly lost the rest of my already wearing thin patience (and judging from the trailer there are more of those "draw imaginary tools (like lines) to get over chasms/obstacles" - later in the game). Weirdly the game supports some basic mfi controls. But with my controller I was only able to jump and slide (so basically only useful for the first three levels), after that you had to use the touch controls (or tilt for level 4) - After all the springs get placed on the exact spot you tap on the screen which would be pretty hard to do with a controller anyway, especially considering how quickly one has to create them if he doesn't want to fall into an abyss (and start over). Which brings me to the next point: It really bugged me that there are no checkpoints whatsoever. I'm usually more patient with trial & error mechanics and beared it for the first four levels (although I was near giving up back then too after having had to start over with the same level again and again because of some small mistake near the end). But the fifth level really sealed the deal for me - The newly introduced spring mechanic was just too unresponsive: Half of the time it didn't get placed at all, even though I used it as intended/explained = tapped the spring icon, then an empty space in the middle of the chasm but it still didn't work. By then you're already so close to the edge though that you don't get a second attempt. Other times it worked but the character still fell because you didn't land on it correctly or placed it 0.02 inches too far to the left. And that was the very first chasm needing a spring mind you. I have a good junk of experience with platformers and while I don't claim to be a pro I usually also don't suck at them as I did here. But the control scheme is already feeling cramped with the spring mechanic (which is just the first extra button being introduced) and especially the unresponsiveness finally killed the rest of my interest. Unacceptable for a game that is all about quick reactions and no second chances. Oh, and for the sake of completeness the story is - at least as far as I can assess by now - pretty much negligible, strikes me more as silly than anything else (some guy who seems to be stupid or has lost a chunk of his memory is bullied by his commanding officer (?) to run after/catch some masked guy). Of course story's doesn't have to be the main selling point for such kinds of games and as I said, I threw the towel at level 5 but so far it's nothing to write home about. All in all, not too happy with my purchase. Tl;dr: Useless mfi support, silly story, repetitive gameplay (jump, jump, jump ..., slide, jump, jump and so on), cramped, unresponsive controls, lack of checkpoints can get annoying. cshmee Well-Known Member Mar 14, 2013 61 0 6 Making games! Maryland #12 cshmee, Jun 10, 2016 Well this week was very helpful since being a smaller group makes it harder to get proper feedback until the game is really out there. We heard you, agreed with a good bit of it and got to work. So with that comes a pretty significant update to The Amazing Bernard in version 1.20. Here's what's been done: -Checkpoints! Reach a certain point in each level so you can bring Bernie back at that spot. -Added "tap to skip" for longer story sequences. Tapping the screen will go to the next speech bubble. -30 new Achievements! -Improved Spring response. -Go button fix preventing jump from happening at the same time. -Some small story/tutorial fixes. -Tweaks to 1-1, 1-2 and 1-3, a little relief on 1-5 and 1-8. The feedback is much appreciated, I think it's a much better game now for it and I hope you'll check it out. To go with the arrival of the new update we also have a new gameplay video showing one of the Chapter 2 levels in action. This is the 2nd half of the big 1.2 update but as it influences the gameplay a decent amount it took a little more time to properly balance. In this update: -Increased Bernie's run speed and made his jumps slightly less "floaty." -Small balance tweaks to a few levels to accommodate the increased speed. -Fixed a bug in the Gumption menu that occurred after upgrading a Power. -Added checkpoint to level 1-4 The game has come a long way thanks to helpful feedback so hopefully you get a chance to check it out in this latest, ideally better than ever form.
