Time magazine just ran a story of the 100 best video games of all times here: http://techland.time.com/2012/11/15/all-time-100-video-games/ Here is a compilation of the titles, they were sorted by date released not 1 - 100. 1970s The Oregon Trail Hunt the Wumpus Pong Breakout Space Invaders Adventure Asteroids 1980s Battlezone Defender Pac-Man Zork Castle Wolfenstein Centipede Donkey Kong Frogger Galaga Tempest Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord Joust Pitfall! What's your opinion? And what happened to PvZ?
Any reason Ocarina of Time isn't present? Was an incredibly influential game. I have a feeling they left it out just to create controversy. Also surprised at no Skyrim, though I can't say much about it (bought it, played an hour, got bored and did something else. Still need to get to it- after I finish tackling Amalur (massive game- too many quests). Feel bad, because I really liked both current gen Fallout games (though Obsidian did a better job than Bethesda did)). Lack of Uncharted, Fallout, and Dead Space is odd as well. They got a good portion of the great games to have been released in the 2000's though. Edit: also, where the hell is Pokemon? I also agree that Minecraft and PvZ should have made the cut as well, considering Wii Sports (seriously?) and Angry Birds did (it's enjoyable, but not really that original, and gets old after a while).
Now that you mention it, this is even more odd that Oblivion (pretty but dull) is in there. Personally I liked Morrowind best of the series. Lack of Uncharted, Fallout, and Dead Space is odd as well. Yeah, Pokemon Blue/Red/Yellow (and/or their GBA remakes) could have been there. Cave Story is great, but a Top 100 game? (And wouldn't Cave Story+ have been better? ) And while I'm at it I'll say that Planescape: Torment and Masters of Orion II are missing. The original XCOM? OK, I'll stop now.
I'm not sure what their criteria for a good game is in regards to this list. Some have legitimately good gameplay, others seem to be there just because they happened to be bundled with a console and rather unfairly, those counted as sales and made the game appear far more popular than it otherwise would have been. Talking about Wii Sports here, if it isn't obvious. Also, what sound-minded person wouldn't swap the original Castlevania for Symphony of the Night? It's clearly better in practically every way, yet CV gets the vote for being... old? Influential?
1990s.. solitaire ???? Lol Championship Manager & Monkey Island ... Dungeon Keeper or Syndicate ?? But this is one of those lists that's gonna just spiral in to personal favs
Where is Team Fortress 2 damn it?! And Fallout 3!? And Mario Kart?! Aw screw it. Spoiler In all seriousness, not that bad of a list.
Where the hell is black ops: declassified on this list? What idiot forgot to include that masterpiece??
Definitely some questionable additions... and even stranger omissions. Not sure why they chose Sonic the Hedgehog over Sonic 2 (and even Sonic CD), both were clearly better than the original.
No Baldur's Gate 2, Planescape Torment, The Last Express or Fallout (1 or 2 that is- they're still far better than the new ones)? Wii Sports and Angry Birds obviously have no place on the list and Flower should be replaced by Journey. Surprised Dead Space has been mentioned though, it's a great game but in the top 100 ever? I'm not so sure. Obviously it's all subjective, but I doubt either review scores or popular opinion would place Dead Space in the list. These lists are never going to please everyone but I do think it should be possible to make one that most gamers could more or less agree with- though I've never seen one.
Dead Space is pretty much the only decent survival horror of the past ten years, I'd say it makes top 100.
