It's $5 on iOS. It's $15 on XBLA and PS3's PSN store. It may be $15 on Vita. It would probably be a better deal in the long run to buy it now on iOS and play it and if it becomes your favorite game ever or something then buy it at a higher price on Vita whenever it releases. Vita version from what I read does have a multiplayer option (I think I read 8 players).
Agreed. Running around in a virtual LEGO world with skeletons chasing you? Finding it very difficult to get any work done today. Shoulda called in sick with 'blockitis' - but then Mrs. Drelbs would probably expect me to get things done around the house...
I'd love to get this game and put some time into it. However, I'm not a huge fan of the crafting genre. I played Minecraft for a while, but got tired of seeing green. Has anyone gone into the app with PhoneView or another file program and replaced textures? I'm VERY interested in getting this if I can replace textures with files from texture packs like Autumn, Halloween, etc. I think this would definitely enhance my enjoyment of the crafting experience!
I'm hiding in the toilet at work playin this. I hope nobody notices that my toilet break has been a few hours long!!!
Re: older gamers, I'm 41 and also have problems getting into crafting games (though I keep trying them!) I guess I'm a little too goal-oriented in my gaming to totally get along with sandbox-style--hits me in some open-ended strategy games, god games, open-world, etc. as well, and always has. I don't know that it's a function of age. Part of why I wanted to try Terraria is that it does have bosses (i.e., goals), so I figured it might be enough structure. Re: this version, I find the general control to be OK. However, I'm having a real problem with object placement in that as *soon* as the zoom highlights a legal space it places. That's a real problem for, say, positioning a table; there's no chance to home in on where you want it so you have to touch the right square the first time. If there's a way to move an object other than destroy/replace, I haven't found it yet. Also, is there a function to "flip" an object? First time I put a chair in the tutorial hut, it was facing the wrong way, away from the bench. Was a pain in the ass to have to hammer it back into inventory and retry the placement.
Also RE: Older Gamers, I'm 39 and totally love open world sandbox games including minecraft. Infact it was my interest in Minecraft PE that started the massive love my entire family has with regular Minecraft on PC as well as all of the games derived from it. I'm a big fan of Survival Craft on iOS since it has infinite worlds and generated caves and stuff, though I still like Minecraft PE, Junk Jack, and other sandbox games on ios. I LOVED legos growing up and as cheap as people think they are, they take up quite a bit of space and are in no way cheap. Seriously, those sets can get pricy. So I love the idea of only being limited in my creativity by my own imagination and whatever items there are to craft and build with. I'm coming to Terraria with an interest from afar because I monstly just have time to game on my iPhone and it's a lot more convenient than carrying around a handheld system. I know what it is and I'm actually a little more excited to play it because exploration is the main thing I love from all sandbox games (even the GTA series). I'm happy this is out, it was a no brainer purchase last night. I have a feeling this is going to eat much of the weekend, though I've made a deal with myself to first finish the game I'm playing before diving in.
It's less crafting focused like Minecraft, more of a procedurally generated RPG with a crafting mechanic. I especially like the idea that your structures have a legit purpose (attracting and housing NPCs). First time playing Terraria and I think I'm going to have to get it (and Edge of Space) on PC. I was always hesitant to get into 2D sandbox games but this is a lot of fun On that note, are worlds infinite?
Nope. Even on the PC version the worlds are finite. The PC version gave you 3 choices for small/medium/large sized worlds. From what I am guessing the world seems rather small on iOS. I was able to find Skeletron's castle very quickly, though not the edge of the map just yet. I've been digging down too much.
How do you remove things put into the background? I misplaced my wood walls, but I can't seem to take them down with the hatchet.
Justbought this!! Downloading on my ipad, and i cant wait!! Quick question, will this be out for android too? And if so, when?
Guys any help please. Playing the tutorial built a house and place a chair and eorkbanch inside. The tutorial seems stuck. Any advice?
Make more wood walls and enclose the background wall of the house. There should be no openings on the background wall.
It says it's not supported but I'm going to download tonight and hope for the best and will post a message one way or another (unless someone can confirm before me)
You don't need to put wood at the bottom in the tutorial. Just make sure the tutorial house has... 1. A door 2. A light source (a torch) 3. A chair 4. A table 5. wood background 6. And I think it has to be at least 10 wide and 6 tall
The tutorial world doesn't really end. It's open enough that it just lets you play around after running through the dialogue boxes. It's ok to close that world and begin a new character and build a new world. I have found this site very helpful: http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Terraria_Wiki It's for PC/Console versions but most of it is still relevant to iOS as well. I'm sure the differences between iOS and other versions will be documented there soon. Good luck!
Trying to play the tutorial. I get to the tip that talks about mining the different materials and then that's it. If i go far left and far right I fall into lava an die. Is there supposed to be more to the tutorial?
Hehe. You are right. Playing three side-scrolling ''Minecraft-like" games is a large glossary to keep track of. To be fair, both me and the person I was responding to are new players, so it's more intuitive to conceptualize 'wood' and 'bricks' as walls.
