The one only thing I have to say is that Terra Noctis was a pretty good game, and I wish the best for you guys, and good luck...
Oh, we don't need luck as long as we have friends who wish us the best willing to spend $2.99 to get that Posh Top Hat....
Well, I think the reason the app didn't sell as much is because it wasn't hyped. Paper monsters is at number 10 on the paid games list because it was hyped for a year. The devs should already have a publisher hyping up the game and not just get one at last minute. I don't know who's fault or what happened, as far as I've played of PM I think Terra noctis is better... So this thread is kind of ashame... I'm not buying the game again just to put on a stupid hat.... But I guess alot of stupid people(or casuals I guess) will buy it? Good luck
My question is, how much is going to cost one of those hats in premium version (paid one)? Also 3$? Or it is different?
Actually, you don't have to even pay cash for the hats. Like Jetpack Joyride or Temple Run, you can collect in-game currency (Fairies) that can be used to purchase items and cosmetic changes such as hats. So Hats only cost fairies, but you can buy fairies if you want to collect more hats. So really - You don't need to spend any money no matter what.
I have to agree that part of the reason was hype. I just checked and PM is at #12. i still wonder if it will sale enough to really go past breaking even. I've seen what high quality games cost to make, and it's hard to judge just how much money the top spot earns you on iOS, especially if you drop quickly. Edit I guess I can assume that PM's IAP will sell pretty well. I think with making this new Terra Noctis free and doing some moderate hyping/marketing, it will make more money this time around. Well, unless you make getting IAP items too easy.
To give you an idea of IAP, you can collect about 200 fairies per level, depending on how much exploring you enjoy. An item (Balloon, Gun, Extra Life) costs between 150 and 200. However, a hat costs 2,500 fairies. So you need to play about 10 levels or so to collect enough to buy a hat. Of course, The Shop also sells a Fairy Cloning device to double the fairies you collect.
Looks like this could be interesting. Admittedly I won't be getting this however, since I own the current paid version, but I do hope this succeeds. Love Terra Noctis, it's my favorite long 2D platformer on the app store, and one of my 3 favorite platformers of all on the app store, with Craz Hedgy (3D) and League of Evil (2d short).
DodgerBlue016 - don't forget about Wind-Up Knight Well, I asked about the costs of the hats, for I would really like to support you guys. Terra Noctis is so great that, honestly... I can't even express how I feel when I'm playing this game. Such feeling I had very very long time ago, when as a kid I used to play Heroes of Might and Magic I... Music is an amazing masterpiece... I'm a great fan of Alexander Brandon's themes (Jazz Jackrabbit series) and this really partly reminds me his works. Anyway, thats great there is possibility to obtain hats in a 'freemium' way.
Seems like a nice transformation for Terra Noctis. I already have the paid version and it's awesome. The hats should be a nice addition
Hopefully this experiment goes well and you can pick up Jazz: Trump's Journey. A ridiculously wonderful puzzle-ish platformer that Bulkypix let slip through the cracks like TN.
The original version isn't going free. The main difference is that things are more expensive in the store for the free version and you must spend a deal more time exploring and collecting fairies. More time consuming than the original, so you can simply pay cash to earn more fairies.
I don't know. This still seems strange. It's like FFF picked two publishers to compete against each other. I wouldn't be surprised if there is another story that we're not hearing. I can't imagine that Bulkypix is OK with this. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding something.
It has nothing to do with BulkyPix. I'm sure they are a very nice company. But Everplay is a 'developer' (artists and programmers) who is also publishing this title. Its like if NimbleBit approach MikaMobile and they worked together to make a game and NimbleBit also published it.
You left out the first part. Using your example, this is more like if NimbleBit approached Cresent Moon to publish a paid game, and then concurrently approached MikaMobile to add IAP hats to the same game and drop the price to free. While the launch of your version of TN may not have anything to do with Bulkypix, it almost guaranteed to take away any future sales from Bulkypix So we're back my same thought of FFF picking 2 entities to publish the same game at the same time. I still think Terra Noctis is an awesome game. But business is business I guess. I just can't remember seeing this happen before.
Totally understand where you are coming from. We are just trying to communicate that we aren't just 'publishers' but a development team. We (Everplay + FireFruitForge) also provide the content to paid version, but we wanted to do a free version as well, but are publishing under the name Everplay. Its like when Rovio moved away from Chillingo and giving ourselves indie control so we can better communicate and work with the community regarding future plans, prices, and additions to the game.
Any differences between this one and the paid version in terms of levels? I have the paid version and if they are exactly the same, I weren't be upset but maybe a little disappointed. I could download this for free and maybe start it as a hard mode since Terra Noctis does not allow multiple playthroughs in different difficulties.
The levels are roughly the same but are harder to access since you must spend Red Fairies to unlock them where as you simply must beat the level in the paid version. However, Red Fairies can be collected in the main game.
