This game is pure digital poetry. A haiku maybe. An awesome one. Playing it in the middle of the night with headphones is incredible.
Thank you! Thank you for the kind words and lovely feedback! Getting editor's choice in NA and Europe is such a huge deal for us. We are just 3 people and made this game with our savings over the past 3 years. We always knew that Tengami is not a game for everyone, but we believed throughout the years that there would be enough people who will appreciate what we are trying to do. It is very overwhelming day. So much to take in. Sorry for not replying to questions as fast, I am at a convention in the UK called Geek with Tengami.
I think doing a game like this is suicide on a market dominated by crappy games, casual and freemium. Developers like this are heroes! I really hope Tengami gets the attention and the sales it deserves.
Hey could someone help me? I feel kind of stupid but I'm on the third chapter and cannot get the flower!there is a puzzle with 4 lists of symbols and I have to pick the correct ones, but cannot find them anywhere. I've spent probably a half hour looking around and trying to guess, but it's get tiring backtracking when your character moves so slow. Any help would be appreciated.
Already #35 in the paid US games chart and top 50 in paid overall, less than 24 hours after release. Doesn't sound like suicide to me. I think it makes it stand out in a market full of BS.
Is the music in the game available for purchase? I just watched a gameplay video of the first 15 minutes, and I just love it would truly love to listen to the music on my iphone when I am not playing the game too.
Just finished it with no hints! I tell ya what, that last series of puzzles took me a while to figure out. Even longer than the bells puzzle. But it was very satisfying when I finally did! Great game. These are the kind of gems I seek out on the App Store. Totally unique. Although relatively short (probably took me 3 hours), it's one of those experiences that keep you thinking about it weeks after it's over. 4.5 stars
Could someone please throw me a hint? I've walked around the area multiple times and have only seen the symbols on tabs, not the actual code. I'm assuming there is a way besides blind guessing? Because I don't really want to try thousands of combos... Thanks
Ah! Never mind I got it... I think I saw some sort of pattern and the rest was just guessing Overall, a pretty neat experience. I really loved the textures and colors, great work there. The whole atmosphere was awesome, and the water looked great. I do wish a one tap option would be implemented, rather than having to double tap everything. Also, I think you should be able to drag your finger to constantly move. Another thing is I think the character should walk a little faster. Other than that, great little game. I do wish it was longer, seeing as it doesn't have much replay value. Now that a lot of the textures are done, it would be great to see more books in the future. If you have the money to spare, I would try it out. 7.5/10
@Mr Grizzly: The soundtrack will soon be available for purchase (2-3 weeks). You can pre-order it here for $10: http://nyamyam.com/buyTengami It will pop-up (no pun intended) on iTunes at some point too. Thanks all for the feedback. We are reading it very carefully and will try to address some of the things you mention in the next update or 2. Please keep the feedback coming.
Just completed Tengami. Pure poetry. A short but touching experience with sky high production values and some mind bending puzzles. Took me a bit less than 4 hours (most of all spent walking around), but I really enjoyed the ride, very relaxing. I LOVED every second of it and I wished for more. But maybe 'more' would have diluited the intense experience so I'm a bit torn on this part. My iPad was literally a window into another world and culture. Brilliant.
I love games like this. It reminds me of one of my favorite works of art, a Wizard of Oz popup book unlike any I had ever seen before. On Amazon. It sure makes me wish I were still doing games. Sigh, someday I'll get better and return to work. C'mon technology! There were only a few issues. The pagoda bells are not intuitive because the game is all about taking your time and has a certain pace. The solution was not at all what I would have expected considering the mood of the game. I found it purely by accident when I became so frustrated I wanted to set fire to my popup book. I've been wandering around for an hour now trying to find the last two numbers for the combo safe on the ocean level. I'm not ready to set fire to it again, but I'm getting close. Other than that, the game is a beautiful work and one I'm proud to support, burned to a cinder or not. Bravo guys. Now..about those numbers...grrr. I'm guessing at one I'm pretty sure of but the sequence eludes me as well as the certainty of my logic. Papabear.
Two minor things I'm sure the devs want to patch. 1) The Italian translation lacks all the apostrophes. 2) During the credits there are two missing text strings (display something like font_text or something like that). Other than that it was just perfect (the bells puzzle could be explained better). Awesome experience, looking forward what they will do next.
This was an instabuy for me. I don't regret it although I am disappointed by the final product as I expected more. The concept is little more than window dressing for a very bland game. The puzzles are very blah and obvious. Every one has been nicked from other games such as The Room and The Lost City. Everything is signposted so there's never any challenge of discovery. The sound / music is sumptuous. Graphically, I wish the water and fire had been visually created using the same paper aesthetics as the rest of the scenery as it doesn't sit well. Most levels consist of just tedious walking, collecting objects and placing them in obvious places so none of the puzzles require any thinking. A shame, I really wanted to like this
@Pitta: Would you mind sending me a screenshot example of the missing apostrophes? My email is: [email protected]
Sure, I have to replay it first tough (of course I will). I'm out today but as I'll do as soon as possible. They are really missing, meaning some thing like " L'AMORE " is " LAMORE ". No spaces even.
Email sent!!! BTW...they were the very last game messages!!! This gave me the opportunity to replay the whole game, still amazing.
Loved it! I just finished this and really enjoyed it. It is a bit short and really is a game for people who enjoy a calm, thoughtful experience rather than frantically killing monsters and whatnot. I did have to get help on the bells puzzle too, so agree with the other poster who said that one could use a hint or two. But the other puzzles were good, not too hard once I realized that there were hints tucked around the scenery pages for the chapter. I didn't mind at all the walking around looking for hints. Also, thank you devs for not begging in the game for ratings, I hate that! I gave it five stars with a review on the App Store. Looking forward to another one!
