I picked this game up on Steam a while back. I was hesitant at first due to the graphics/art style, but the story, gameplay, and mechanics are pretty awesome. I personally think it's much better than Warhammer 40k: Deathwatch and up there with XCOM.

    Definitely worth the price, IMO.

Yeah I was wondering how this compared to deathwatch. This looks like it is more tactical maybe? With all these numbers and dice rolls and percentages in the link the Dev posted......is it too crazy, like will I be able to understand what I'm doing? I beat deathwatch btw. This game looks amazing, but those numbers....

We design our games with depth, if you are interested. If not, you should be able to find successful strategies very easily.

For example, you have a Soldier -- he carries a heavy, long range gun, so raise his Gunnery Skill and his Strength (the weapon indicates this). You don't need to particularly know the numbers to make a very effective Soldier. The guide is there if you want the depth.

I hope that helps explain our intention.

Is there a mid-mission save that I am missing?

The game saves after every single turn automatically, quietly and quickly. At any moment, just walk away. It will be waiting for you when you come back.

The fact that we have a developer here answering every question and being so helpful, just interacting with us, has sold me and I'm downloading it.

Developers should take notes, simply interacting and being nice to fellow gamers can boost sales

Thank you! Killer customer support and community interaction / listening are two of our core goals as a studio.

It seems daunting at first, but it's not too bad. It's mostly percentages of success that you'll want to pay attention to when making tactical decisions. In fact, it's the level of depth that makes the game so great. Deathwatch was cool (and I love the W40K universe), but I personally feel Templar Battleforce has more variety in terms of gameplay, enemies, and tactics. I'd imagine it's also much easier on your phone and doesn't kill your battery so fast.

My favorite part of the game is how you can fully customize your characters and level up their skills and specializations to your playstyle. As you'd imagine, your squad composition dramatically effects how your battles are played out. All the classes are viable, so how you weave them together is up to you.

I'd say my only suggestion would be to have some sort of procedurally generated skirmish mode or something, so you can use/level up some of your characters outside of the story mode (if you're having difficulty on a mission), as well as give you something extra to do after you've beaten the game. :)

We're working on more content, but currently the plan focuses on more scripted content and more choices that affect which levels you play. We'll look into providing an infinity-skirmish.

You're all set. And it's universal app, so you can play on iPhone too with one purchase.

Really loving the different objectives and the goals for the mission. Gives every level a unique feeling as opposed to go here kill this and go there and kill that.

Played through the intro mission and really enjoying it so far, however, I noticed some minor issues that are worth mentioning.
Fog of War: It seems like the FOW logic doesn't fully process during movement, leaving spaces which are clearly in view, obscured; mainly walls a corners. It seems, however that FOW is fully processed at the beginning of a new round, revealing spaces previously uncleared. I also noticed that when moving multiple spaces into newly visible areas, pathfinding behaves as if FOW still exists, stopping moves short of the target space. This doesn't occur when moving one space at a time, however that can get tedious.

Overwatch: When enabled, overwatch seems to trigger before enemies actually enter the overwatch zone. As if overwatch is triggered because the enemies destination is plotted within the zone, but prior to the enemy reaching it. Whether it's a bug or by design, it makes overwatch that much more viable.

We will take a look at the FOW issue you mentioned.

Overwatch always allows the Templar to fire before an enemy enters a tile that is covered by the template. This includes passing through it. If an enemy is hit, survives, and moves into the tile, this "clears" the OW on that tile for the rest of the turn. Therefore, you might see multiple enemies piling in behind a Carapace or Goliath who lead a charge through your OW zone. Watch out :D

Thanks! Really glad you are enjoying it. With 45 missions, alternate missions for different levels, a wide variety of objective types, and random elements in maps, we think we've hit a sweet spot for variety!
