Starring Logan Marshall-Green, Alexandra Shipp, Kerry Bishé, Angela Sarafyan and directed by Sam Barlow, creator of Her Story and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. How does it work? Telling Lies sits you in front of an anonymous laptop loaded with a stolen NSA database full of footage. The footage covers two years in the intimate lives of four people whose stories are linked by a shocking incident. Explore the database by typing search terms, watch the clips where those words are spoken and piece together your story. Unlike anything you've played before, Telling Lies is an intimate and intense experience. A game where you decide the truth. And it's not only because of gorgeous Kerry Bishé even though it's a major selling point for me. I also liked Her Story enough to know this is gonna be worth to buy the day one. Impressions? jamesmcadams82 Well-Known Member Sep 4, 2012 85 2 8 #8 jamesmcadams82, Aug 23, 2019 There are plenty of reviews online and many of them think it might be the game of the year (not just on iOS). I’m inclined to agree. I’ve seen some reviewers that prefer Her Story but still highly recommend this. If you’ve played that game, you know how it feels/works, and knowing much more than that risks diminishing the experience. None of the reviews that I’ve seen pay much attention to interface on different platforms, so I’ll say this - it works a treat on mobile, and it’s not fiddly to control at all - nor will it require fast reactions or anything. i adore this game. solarnya Well-Known Member Jul 22, 2015 903 285 63 Male Close to Tokyo, Japan #9 solarnya, Aug 23, 2019 I’m trying to jump in this game! Downloading now. Though there are too few informations, it has positive ratings at metacritic and Japanese AppStore! Dankrio Well-Known Member Patreon Silver Jun 3, 2014 1,740 13 38 #10 Dankrio, Aug 23, 2019 Gonna grab it now. Have loved Her Story, so it’s a no brainer for me. Game of the year contender(on all platforms?). That’s high praise! Sadly, I don’t own an Ipad anymore, but I think the XS Max is going to bring an adequate enough experience, though. jamesmcadams82 Well-Known Member Sep 4, 2012 85 2 8 #11 jamesmcadams82, Aug 23, 2019 Last edited: Aug 23, 2019 It’s totally fine for me. The button to exit a video is a bit small - I either missed it on my first tap or it took half a second longer to respond visually - given that this isn’t a game where reaction speeds matter, it’s not an issue at all. That’s the extent of my “trouble”. Given that most of the game is watching videos that are (notionally) recorded on phone cameras, it feels quite fitting to view them that way. Macmonkey New Member Aug 24, 2019 1 0 1 #13 Macmonkey, Aug 24, 2019 Aww man love this game!! The characters are super well written and there is so much to find out about them. I did get lucky/unlucky and found one of the final scenes with my fourth or fifth search term it was a really random term but from there it all slotted into place fairly quickly. I was through to the end sequence in just over 2 hrs but I still have so much more footage to search through and flesh out the story, and it so good that you won’t want to stop after the end credits. The only thing I would say which isn’t made clear (and I don’t think it’s a spoiler) is when you get results for the search term it shows you the clips that are relevant. but when you click on them they are cued up so they start with your search term, which may be 6 mins into a 7min video. It wasn’t until a fair way into my play through that I realised you can rewind the videos to the beginning. I was initially thinking damn I gotta find a different search term to start nearer the beginning It’s big thumbs up from me anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,121 698 113 #14 anthony78, Aug 24, 2019 Is this full screen on iPhone X? Screenshots make it appear that it is not. jamesmcadams82 Well-Known Member Sep 4, 2012 85 2 8 #15 jamesmcadams82, Aug 25, 2019 The desktop where you use the search interface has tiny boarders on a XS just to give it flat sides (size of notch taken off both sides). Videos have a slightly bigger border than that. In neither case is it owing to device-oriented laziness, though. It looks and feels like it’s meant to be that way. anthony78 likes this. skoptic Well-Known Member Apr 3, 2015 634 82 28 #16 skoptic, Aug 26, 2019 The info about vids loading at search term time stamp is in the instruction manual (pdf on dB drive). I don’t mind this but can you only rewind vids with the swipe left and hold? It takes ages to do this, makes some stupid analogue speeding up noise which is inconsistent with everything digital. It seems completely non digital and pointlessly slow! jamesmcadams82 Well-Known Member Sep 4, 2012 85 2 8 #17 jamesmcadams82, Aug 30, 2019 I think the scrubbing speed is deliberate - to control pacing, to watch for tics, to give a sensation of struggling against time, to make it feel more voyeuristic (you have to watch rather than just skim for clues, etc) I like it. It’s annoying in all the right ways. But yes, it makes no sense for a digital video, and that is one big mark against it. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
