How do you get roms into Sameboy ? I tap the screen, select Import ROM files and find some but theyre always greyed out

Went to itunes to file sharing, selected the roms i wanted and synced it. None are appearing. Everytime i select a .gb file its grey so i cant load it ?

Question for those who draw the line on emulating modern consoles, where do you draw the line? I consider PS3 and Wii to still be modern but PS2 and Vita to be fair game. Opinions? (no arguments please)

PS2/GameCube/PSP/3DS is my limit. The question for me is: can I buy the original game from the publisher? Nintendo recently shut down the WiiU and 3DS digital shops, so…. (Keeping in mind that buying a copy at a second hand shop gets the publisher or developer no money.) If a game is remastered on a current platform, I buy the remaster and download the original.

I own a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, which has become my go-to non-iPhone platform. I much prefer the smaller form factor over my Switch Lite, and it’s a retro gaming powerhouse, especially for GameCube and PS2, and PSP games. I like it so much, in fact, that I’ve (ahem) procured Switch ROMs to play on it — but only of games I’ve already bought on Switch. That satisfies my ethical compass.

I should note that I have a fair amount of disposable income and gaming is my main hobby. It’s easier to have morals when you can afford them ;).

I get the magazine Retro Gamer here in the UK and i think they have a 10 year rule. But lots of 'purists' seem to not like the latest consoles, even though its been 10+ years they still regard them as modern

I do like discovering new games (I didnt have a PSP but i've enjoyed trying those games) but i much prefer the old computers or consoles i had previously

Now i'm older and have a job i'm totally happy buying games compared to when i was a broke 15 year old ! But thats the frustrating thing, if i want to play Super Mario Land on the Gameboy i cant easily do that legally, Nintendo wont release a huge old retro back catalogue on the app store. So i have to use a rom on an emulator. I know its a huge grey area, but its like MAME - being able to play those old arcade classics is such a dream

But i mentioned it elsewhere, its all about gameplay for me than graphics/visuals/sound. I find a lot of old games are so playable. Look at shooters like R-Type or Gradius, amazing games and they're so old !

Everything after ps1 is to modern and not retro. Ps2 is basically a modern console for me, just look at that grapix!

Borderline ps1 feel to modern to be frank. But since i collect for it and everyone else seem to think its retro I will oblige and conform.

i always were more of a nintendo kid myself, but the ps1 is the console with the superior game library. When I started collecting 20+ years ago, the games didnt cost anything. Today… ohboy… Im glad i picked up most of the raritys back then. Lets just say that.

its not a cheap hobby to have today if you collect new in box/mint condition.

Oh boy — collecting mint copies is a whole different level of commitment.

It sure is. The prices can easily ten-fold just for a sealed copy of something.

Maybe we should start a collectors-thread in the off topic lounge about this? Where we can post retro games porn pics and discuss todays absurd pricing etc. :)

I guarantee I can post some nerd-pictures that will make you salivate! :D

I own a Homebrewed PSP Go that I play often — until my Retroid it was my go-to retro console (great for GBA games, too, and there are many PSP Eboot PSX games available as well). But I’ve never been into collecting physical media — probably because my wife would kill me if I pick up another space-killing hobby. You see, I’m a bit of a book hoarder, have an art book habit, and still own thousands of comic books. I do live handheld hardware…

I feel that Im going off topic and siderail which ever thread I visit. :) To that I apologize.

Cool. I like books. What kinda books are you into? Is it a perticular theme, a writer, condition, or something else?

When I was younger I loved horror. Especially S.King (Cocaine King ”car accident” S. King :D) and D. Koontz.

I had all his books translated into my language. Hard covers. But today, when Im older, I dont like his new style. His writing has changed, today he basically writes thrillers and romantic dramas. Its not nerve wrecking bone chilling horror anymore, its something completly different. Its not the same at all as 20+ years ago.

Al tho, my all time favourite author, as I still collect for to this day. His majesty, the allmighty MacLean, his 5hit never go out of style! Raw and simple vocabulary, no nonsense - straight to the point action! He lived in a era where men could be men, and all this politically correct nonsense of today was unheard of.

And as the neurotic perfectionist that I am - I had to have everything he has released here (lacking three books that not meet the condition I want them in)
