The Nether Realm expansion is now available. It adds three new endings and a new deck of cards used when those endings are in effect. There is also an ending selection feature, so you can choose which endings to play with in your game.
Awesome new additions, thanks for the heads up! The update brings to light an ongoing issue though, that of having to re-download the hi-res textures and sounds. I assume these come down from your server? This morning I was fortunate that they came down quickly. Last time I re-installed it took easily 15-20 minutes to pull them down while having to keep my iPad open and active. I thought of a couple solutions, one would be make it a separate free IAP that perhaps can sit side by side with the app, and not require a re-download every time the game is updated. It would also relieve stress on your servers as it would be hosted by Apple. Another option might be to just integrate into the game, I doubt at this point there are many people not running with them? Is it a backwards compatible thing to keep folks on lower versions of iOS able to play or more a space saving originally designed to keep the app under the old app size limits? One other question, it may have been asked, but is there plans to add Async support? Could I use the "No Timeout" option to do this or does that still require both people to be online to play thier turn. Seems like most of the framework is there to support it, sure would be nice to make it an official feature (perhaps an iAP if it was more work that a couple tweaks). I love to play the game, but my wife and I don't always have an hour or two to sit and play but play Async games all day long. Anyhow, thanks for listening and making a great game. Let me know if I can help with anything!
I also noticed the issue about the downloading for a second time but I also got an other one after this update. Some purchases were erased and I had to restore them, so no big deal here. BUT the new Extension was in the "Coming Next" state and I couldn't buy it at all. So are these two linked in some way? For those having the same problem, just delete and reinstall the game. You'll have to download 200 more Mb for graphics and sounds but you'll be able to try out the new expansion, which is quite different from the others : less cards but new mechanics and badass enemies! (Not the best description but seems accurate to me).
You should only have to download any data that you don't already have. This update adds an expansion, so there's new data for that, but things like the music tracks won't download again because you already have them. We use this system so we can keep below the app size limits. I know the limit was increased last year, but we've kept it below 50Mb. This helps the game appear on the store for some older devices and for people not connected to Wifi. We won't be adding asynch support for Talisman. The game just doesn't suit it. We'd have to make a slightly different game for it to work, removing all 'any time' effects and how the spell casting works. Games would take months to play too. A good example of how unsuitable it is, is the Misdirection spell. In an asynch environment, it would be the start of your turn, but I'd somehow have to be able to cast the spell before you roll to move and then wait to see if anyone can counter it. If I do cast it, you then need to roll the die and then wait for me to choose which direction you move. Sounds like a nightmare! We'd have to take everything out of the game that causes effects like that for it to work. If we every make Talisman II then we'll take a look at it
Thanks for the reply and totally understand. Is there a way to backup the downloaded data via iTunes maybe? I know some apps allow for data transfer via iTunes. At this point it weighs in at around 200MB and would like some way to back it up as I don't think iCloud backups do it as I always have to re-download when I do a clean install. Also at times it can take a long time to download (and does not seem to download in the background). Thanks!
Yes very much so. Plays great and has a much different feel from Pathfinder (which I also like a lot!).
You can play against up to 5 other AI players. Although playing against other players online is probably the most preferable way to play, games against the AI are a lot quicker and still provide a good challenge.
Thanks already bought it with reaper expansion. AI just fine I want to get one other expansion any suggestions.
The Frostmarch expansion is always my first recommendation. It adds some good characters, and alternative endings which shorten the game. The Highland is a good one too, which adds a whole new region of the board.
Even now with all of the expansions, I still contend the simple Troll is one of the all-time best. Sure, his weak craft leaves him vulnerable to mental combat, few can match or keep up with his exponentially growing strength in combat. My contender for the most useless character in the game? Dread Knight. He has incredibly pathetic stats and his only real gimmick is starting the game with a war horse. The problem here is that there are literally dozens of character abilities, events, spells, and enemy encounters that can separate the horse from him at which point he's about as potent as a toad. Sure he can get a free replacement but only if he can find access to the stable deck and in the meantime that other player who likely stole it from you can actually use it against you likely to much greater effect than you could.
For me, it's a close one between the Sage and the Gypsy. The Gypsy's ability to grab a spell that's being discarded is very powerful and makes other players think twice before casting nasty spells on you, because you can then grab them and cast them right back! Avoiding events is really useful too. The Sage's ability to peek at the next card is great and allows him to avoid upcoming nasty cards with a movement re-roll. A great tactic is to move to a space, then check what the next card is and if it's a bad card you can ditch one of your currently held cards on the space so that you don't draw the bad one.
Just found out about the iOS sale for the expansions but it seems I'm a few hours too late to take advantage of it. Would have nicely finished off the couple of expansions I was missing on iOS (have them all on the PC).
